| News Comment | Southampton V Leicester City The Verdict at 13:41:27
As a fan first game April 1960 I've seen many ups and downs over the years, and I guess from an age point of view only post 3-4 times a year (social media not a great interest). After watching the refs last year in the Championship, many I felt were poor but reffed in such a way made little or no difference to the result. I have watched for the last two seasons and so far this season in my seat and only standing when we scored. However on Saturday I was up from my seat screaming at Taylor half a dozen times for poor decisions I felt bordered on bias. I didn't even see at the time the five second tug in the box until I got home. When I subsequently found out he said afterwards he had seen it all and felt it didn't affect the play. Jeff Stelling called it a shameful decision this morning. Having said my piece where do we go from here, I haven't heard comment from anywhere on the fact RM did alter our game plan and we played much more directly even prior to Tall Paul arriving. Most TV and radio "pundits" claimed we played the same way as the earlier games this season, you do wonder how many watched the game. The substitution mistakes were our downfall together with the repeat of the Ipswich cock up with the corner. I really don't know where we go from here, I even feel the Championship is where we need to be let'the top 6 sod off to Europe and play themselves continually. Leaving the remaining 14 and top 6 or 8 from the Championship create and compete in a wonderful league with promotion and relegation intact with the league below. |

Good game to watch and feel of the 8 goals only the OG could have easily been avoided. All in all feel the game proved the depth of the squad, not all would step in and do a great job, but none would be a big liability. |

One thing is for certain McCarthy plays against Cardiff he will get caught with the ball if we play as if Bazunu was in goal. He was only pressed a few times last night and was caught once.We will have to play differently. I think Lumley should play McCarthy hasn't the foggiest idea where his near post is located. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Ipswich The Verdict at 14:20:00
Well where do we go from hear. Firstly last night there is no doubt Bazunu is playing exactly as the manager has instructed. I don't believe there are more than 1 or 2 keepers who would have saved that shot. The problem was the player was not marked. The second goal went through THB's legs making a split second difference. Third goal had an element of luck, fine margins as many others have commented. Bazunu is very far from the worst keeper I have seen. Also no chance whatsoever Mcarthy would have saved any of these three goals, he has no idea where the near post is. The pre match interview gave the game away RM when asked the rationale behind the three changes snapped back " I have picked the team to win this game". So he had already guessed the situation with benching KWP could easily blow up in his face. It did in spades. My only consolation is had we won which overall we deserved, it would only have made matters easier for Leeds and Leicester. Ipswich have only matched us in 2011/12 let's see if they go up they last 10 years in the PL. Let's go on and win as many of the remaining games as possible and go into the play offs on a good run of form. The situation with Man U and Wilcox is typical of the current situation, if you had spent most of your life in the North West and offered the opportunity to double/treble your money not a difficult or time consuming decision to make. If Ipswich don't make it to the PL pretty sure they will be looking for a new manager as he will be at a PL club. We can only hope an equal or hopefully better replacement can be found. Let us hope the club screw Man U for as much as possible, |

Another 100 minutes of heart attack football yesterday. Clearly there is no chance of RM changing his philosophy so we might as well accept the situation. The players have been instructed to keep the ball at all costs. The Sunderland second goal illustrates this amply we had a chance to nod the ball out of play but in trying to keep possession a slightly misplaced pass gave Bellingham his chance. If we get promoted RM will play this without hesitation so hopefully we can find better players to give us a chance of staying up. PS. As a fan who travels sixty to miles to watch have to comment on the clowns at the council who have started the road works and one way system. Even after stopping in West Quay for a meal expecting to be able to head home at seven o’clock it was a nightmare. It’s strange trying to head towards London and finding the best route is to head towards Bournemouth first. Can only assume it’s the same every night at rush hour. I doubt the council planners have any idea if the plan will help the traffic flow. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Liverpool The FA Cup Verdict at 12:14:33
Having watched the game on TV I felt on the whole in many way s encouraged by the performance. It could easily have been 3-0 or 3-1 as you always have accept they will get the luck of a deflection. I felt the game ultimately hinged on the Charles miss.Clearly the Smallbone error finished us off and the third goal frankly makes no difference. Obviously flatters the Scousers who don't need flattering fullstop. I felt both Edozie and Sulemana played well but can't really find fault with the substitions of both at that time with the Birmingham game on Saturday. I feel Mara is very slowly turning a corner mostly held the ball up well. Clearly a pity he was offside in the first minute when putting the ball in the net. This type of mistake comes with a bit more experience. I couldn't quite make out where Matterface was commentating from could easily been the offices of the Liverpool Supporters Club or possibly the Klopp Appreciation Society offices. Still I guess you can't expect much more from a Skate. |

He might have had plenty of time to save it had he been positioned incorrectly in relation to the play was developing as he was positioned correctly didn’t t have a cat in hells chance. |

Unfortunately had to miss the game yesterday as unwell watches the highlights several times this morning. I thought Bazunu could have done better with the first goal but had no chance with their third. Difficult to make a judgement on the not being there but very pleased with the result and with Ipswich dropping 2 points a good all round afternoon. I especially liked the way Mara held off 3 defenders put his on the ball and then rolled it back to Edozie for the fifth. |

I feel accepting this deal with Juventus is probably the right solution in the current situation. If he eventually returns for next season and we have made the PL will almost certainly be a better prospect. |

With regard to the JWP mistake can anyone remember when he last made a mistake which cost a goal. He was trying to keep the ball but headed it too far. The mistake I found unforgivable was Salisu when you are under the cosh and 3-0 down get rid of the ball |

I feel we need a bit of perspective on this. The reality is Chelsea are a much better side than us who had just a had a kick up the backside after two poor performances. The subs they bought on I believe reinforces the point. I doubt any of our starting 11 on Saturday would make their side three or four might make the bench. I felt we deserved our point against Man City, however had they played like they did yesterday against us the score would have been similar or worse. It's patently obvious the result of a match is determined by how both teams play on the day. We played extremely poorly on Saturday and they played extremely well. There is no point in making a change before the end of the season and I am not sure there is anyone available who could a great deal better. It is becoming clearer by the year the bottom 12-14 of the PL and the top 4-5 yo-yo clubs in the Championship are essentially at the same "level" with 1 or 2 clubs each year having a slightly better season. |

It would be sticking your head in the sand to be anything other than disappointed about yesterdays result. But it drives me potty when the moment we get a poor run of results out come the keyboard warriors demanding RH is sacked. Never do they make a constructive suggestion for a replacement. Assuming the top 6 who are if it's correct are paying their managers c10-15 million a year would anyone pick from the remaining 13 managers currently employed. Possibly Patrick Viera and the Wolves manager who has made a reasonable fist of things following a shaky start. I don't reckon many fans would have picked either last summer.. I can't say Lampard has turned Everton around. We are where we are and have just announced a great big loss so the financial prospects are pretty poor at the moment. I felt we gave City a run for their money but two silly mistakes cost us dearly. Yes a soft penalty but had Stones pushed Adams in the same way we would have been incandescent if a penalty not been given. Also it would appear after a very poor season last year the B and U 18 teams seem to be making progress. and I assume RH has a good deal to do with this after re-modelling the way all teams play. Another bug bear to me is all the moaning about the position inside the ground of the away fans. I wouldn't mind betting this is controlled by the police.who insist the best place to control the away fans is leaving where they are currently positioned. I even saw one suggestion earlier today splitting the away fans in two. I've yet to see any ground where spiltting away fans happens. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Tottenham Hotspur The Verdict at 11:26:13
I did walk out feeling like a victory last night. I couldn't believe the first half display by the yelping and diving Spurs players really did feel they conned the ref. I felt the actual first MS booking could have gone either way he really took the booking because of his previous fouls. Obviously pleased we got the rub of the green with the FF foul, and the offside decision. It's always galling to see all the reports generally carry on about Spurs failings rather than our performance. I reckon most fans of the 14 clubs will feel pleased on how it went last night. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Arsenal The Verdict at 13:33:29
I was quite pleased watching the first twenty minutes and then the roof caved in. Difficult to moan too much about a very good goal they scored. The second I felt had a bit of bad luck about it when the first cross was blocked it looped straight back on their players head. The third academic really though no doubt a better keeper would have reached the cross. I felt when the team was announced probably the best that could be hoped for in the circumstances. Nick is right about the financial imbalance when a bench warmer costs more than our entire team. I thought it was crazy when Arsenal paid all that money for Ramsdale clearly a very astute decision. One we could have made in the summer but most people I believe would have thought the club barking mad. Hopefully OR and MS back on Wednesday and all keep fingers crossed for a t least a point. |
