Hughes is 1-12 on,better get used to the fact he is in. 11:23 - Jan 9 with 5845 viewssparkes12

Surely the bookies would not get this so wrong 1-12 is so short,it has to be his name on the manager's door now.
Good or bad?????

Neil is a better manager imo would sparky win the championship with the same team , i dont think so some how but time will tell.

Difficult to argue against that. Adds to the perception of the general public that it is impossible to be successful as a manager in the championship AND the premiership. Not sure if I agree with that view but as you say, time will tell...

Aha! Maybe Sparky wouldn't get the team up from the Champ, but that's not what we need right now. I sense he will do better with formations and tactics with good players in the prem than Warnock who is much better at motivation.

Agreed.

That's my only fear about this move, we throw money at Hughes to sign-up, he throws money at transfers, the club go to the hilt to stay up but we go down... Not normally a pessimistic poster, it's just for me, sticking with Warnock had some protection in that the guy knows the other side of the coin.

Dont post on here much so don't want to start giving it the 'big I am' rubbish, but my mate who now plays for west brom played under Hughes at Blackburn and he rates him as one of the best managers he ever played for. Only opinion of course but it certainly gives me a bit more confidence about having sparky here.

Steven Reid?????

Anyway, I digress; I agree that Hughes' record in the Prem with Blackburn and Man City is pretty good and I think he would be a good appointment.

The only voice of doubt I have is that a couple of Fulham mates I have told me months ago a similar story to that which FulhamJim mentioned on here yesterday.

TBH, though, every manager has one negative on their CV and I would be pretty happy with this appointment as I think (hope) he can take us forward.

Yeah it is. Funny cos he had a bit of time with us but that was just as b & e came in, as soon as they got here, he was kicked out!! Anyway, still value his opinion as he is proper down to earth. Even made him buy a qpr kit when he was a kid.. Alas it didn't last!!

Good effort!! Remember he didn't last long at LR for whatever reason.

Anyway, glad it seems he's enjoying a good spell at WBA now and, I think, you've always got to respect the view of a pro so that's good to hear

Just had a chat with a Fulham STer at work and he didn't think that Hughes was a bad manager. Just odd that he left Fulham wanting a bigger club and then [possibly] comes to QPR. Wasn't meant in a disrespectful way, just that we ain't a Newcastle, Villa etc.

What does concern me a little is will Hughes' heart be 100% in it (like NW) or is it a case of "oh well, may as well take it as there are no other offers coming in".

Either way, we have to get 100% behind whoever the new manager is for our own survival sake. Can't be having disharmony otherwise we're already as good as down.

I don't suppose that someone with ambition - which Hughes has it seems - would take a job just because it is all that's going........ he doesn't want a relegation on his CV does he?

‘morbid curiosity about where this is all going’

i hope you are right but i am with the view if you are not going to vastly improve to what you got then be loyal to what you have. Oh well i suppose we better move on. :)

Regarding ambition TF says he has big plans and wants to take QPR to another level and is willing to spend to make it happen - maybe that is enough for Hughes?

All Al Fayed seems to want to do is service Fulham's huge debt and keep them ticking along as a lower/midtable prem team - no problems with that as a realistic goal, but maybe Hughes wanted assurances he didn't get?

That may be true, but the opportunities are hardly flooding in are they...

Take the wrong Job and damage your reputation, or do a Curbishley and hold out for your ideal job and become an irrelevance.

...or take a job with an unfancied club and make a massive success out of it so that Man Utd have him in the frame for the year after next. All equally pointless speculation about the man's motives which only he can begin to know about and may change dramatically with middle aged mood swings.

Pretty scattergun in the market over the years.

Some good buys (Nelsen, Samba, Santa Cruz, McCarthy, Kompany), plenty of terrible buys.

If hes the man (seems pretty clear he is) he needs to be supported.

Using my facts now Jamie?

You forgot Dembele, Bentley and S Warnock too. Many many more good buys than bad.

Thank you Sheppton. He is CLEARLY a top manager. All thois about he doesn't catch the bus with the players is such irrelevant rubbish - we have to stop thinking like a Championship side!

People who don't watch enough football closely enough will have missed that Hughes is a top manager. Same lot that couldn't see the football was dire under Warnock.

Long term it's a bit of a lose lose appointment - he either fails and we fire him, or he succeeds and he jumps ship to the first big club that comes along. That said I think he's the best available at the moment and a good appointment.

If we stay up I really don't care if he jumps ship.

Hiddink would be the absolute best imho.

We should probably wait to see whether he actualy takes the job before complaining whether he will leave!

The more worrying thing for me is one of TF's tweets implying he will go if we do go down - hopefully he was just talking about stepping down as Chairman rather than selling though.

Jamie why do always run away when I answer your one pathetic argument only to reappear later on a different thread?

Yes Hiddink would be my ideal appointment. Not realistic, ideal. Hughes has been my realistic suggestion for manager for three weeks. You don't rate him because you only heard of him after he took over City, about the same time you got into football.

You know nothing about football, your knowledge is pathetic. You've even started re-using my facts elsewhere to appear like you know something.

If you have something to say, say it. Or is a smiley all you've got now?

The fact that Hiddink a man with 6 months experience in the Premier League and no experience of a relegation dogfight is your ideal manager to take over says it all.

As I've said several times, none of those options available to us, including Hughes, will do any better than Warnock IMO, and for that reason I'd have given him the season.

Hughes did a good job at Blackburn, he made some very astute signings - Nelsen, Samba, Santa Cruz, McCarthy. He also did a good job at Fulham taking them into Europe. The issue for me is him in the market, as that is where we are pinning our hopes on him saving us. Look at Fulham, he signed Salcido (gone), Greening (gone), Senderos (), Gudjohnsen (finished 2 years ago), Halliche (loan to Swansea missed the deadline in August by 5 mins) and then a gem in Dembele.

At City in the markets he blew an obscene amount of money on players and only Kompany & Barry are still there and involved. As I said, scattergun in the markets.

Hopefully he can find us a few more Dembele's than Jo's. A few more Samba's than Ben Haim's.

As I said on another thread, I don't give a sh1t about his brand of football if it keeps us up, he can give everyone a dodgy neck so long as he does the business, and so long as he is manager, I will support him as everyone should.

My personal opinion though is that he will achieve no more than Warnock would've, and that genuinely seems to hurt you.

How many times has he managed a team into the top 10 in the Prem. And how many times has he not?
