With him not even on the bench this evening, have we seen the last of him? We can but hope. The 'marquee' summer signing turned out to be the terrible one. Ah well, live and learn (hopefully).

I think that is pretty much it. Either sold or loaned out for 3 seasons.
Every other club that looked at him said to slow and weak, and he was. N

That's a message, isn't it?

You won't run around, so I am afraid you are behind even Varane, who is now on the bench, too!
Madson had a fair crack of the whip, but he did not deliver.

In the champ, you have to run, run, run. Frey woke up to this; he realised you cannot stroll around. Frey is not that great at running, but he knows he needs to do it. Chair does it all the time, and he has the most skill compared to anyone else on the team. There really is no excuse.

Everyone runs, or you're out of the team, simples.

zzzzzzzzzz

I think we need to get some balance - the way it’s panning out, Nourry has done quite well with his signings…

Morgan - great signing
Saito - great signing
Varane - great signing
Morrison - great signing
Dembele - looked good before injury
Nardi - great signing
Madsen - terrible

& the loans (Edwards and Min-Heyuk) look handy too.

…that really isn’t too shabby

Injured.

Groin. More specifically, has had his balls removed, at least when it comes to taking to the pitch and doing what you're (over) paid to do.

Bit unkind to dig out players when we are doing so well.

Am sure both Celar and Madsen would like to achieve here but for whatever reason both have seemed somewhere else when playing but let's focus on the positives perhaps.

We have so much depth that unless there are a lot of injuries coming up, can't see either featuring but no need to dig out players at the moment....

Nourry got huge criticism early on for supposedly poor signings only right he gets credit now, can’t get them all right but impressive Summer transfers overall.

The main issue with Madsen is that we spent the most money on him. However overall, I’d say our transfer dealings have been successful. We’re 3 points of playoffs with Chair being out for most of season and no JCS.

Also worth remembering Morgan was not a Nourry/data signing. He was recommended by Bradley Allen. We signed him off the back of that on a free on a nothing salary to the EDS. Marti recognised the talent and gave him an opportunity and then when he looked good we signed him on a longer term deal.

You simply cannot consider that part of the summer recruitment process. He was also signed further back.

Oh, and you missed Santos, and Ashby, as well as Celar.

It’s still a good transfer window. We’re 3 points of playoffs. I know you don’t like Nourry though

Oh and you missed extensions for Morgan, Chair, Lloyd and Kolli. And Field last year.

Noted re Celar, Ashby and Santos - so, to date Nourry has. 2/3 success rate (early days) - which ain’t bad if that sustains.

Re. Morgan - surely Nourry has the final say and the means of identifying him isn’t key?… ultimately he’s demonstrated a willingness to use old-school word of mouth when appropriate.

Having said that Nourry has last say in signings - the Ashby one smacks of Amit taking him on because Reuben has given him a call.

I have a question for all the excellent posters on this board and espiceally the season ticket holders .Has Alfie Loyd pushed his way past Koli in the pecking order now or is it just this few games.
I think Koli is a far bigger threat to score when the chips are down while Alfie is just a battering ram with speed ( I know he scored Saturday ).
Once Frey goes off I think Koli should be first on

Bit harsh.

Nourry would have some say in Morgan. But it seems those who are negatively biased against Nourry blame him for the failures and credit others for the successes. We don't know if Marti, for example, wanted Madsen.

The fact is that things are much more dynamic than under Les. He has made mistakes, e.g
Santos but he's rectifying them by putting him on loan. Our emphasis is on younger players - I have much more faith that our academy will benefit the first team. I don't care if they joined us at eight or 18 really as long as they can make the transition.

Not saying he's proven himself yet but I'm surprised that you're so negative as you're usually one of the more balanced posters.

I think it’s horses for courses.

Frey is clearly the number 1, with the best all round game. He makes it stick, helps us get 10 yards up the pitch, is a threat in the air, and ensures the ball doesn’t come back quickly (mainly by manhandling the centre half).

Kolli is technically much better than Lloyd, although Alfie has improved a lot this season. But Kolli is less suited to playing at “9” than Lloyd, who is beginning to show he can do a job there.

At Hull Kolli started at 9 and offered little. Lloyd can on and changed the game. His pace, physicality and directness was something they couldn’t handle, but they’d contained Kolli with ease.

I think Kolli has the higher ceiling and might go further in the game, but he’s not a true 9.

If we’re really dominating a side I think Cifuentes would bring on Kolli. If it’s a bit stretched or we need to stretch the oppo, he’ll bring on Lloyd.

Either way, keeps them both keen.

Yeah, it might not be fair to say that Frey "woke up to" the need to run, I'm not sure he was fit enough to do that when he joined, but he's made bloody sure that he can and does.

I just don't get why Madsen has seemed so unwilling to do what it takes. He's really blown a chance here, because if you look at where we are despite our appalling start to the season you can see that thee's plenty of potential here but he's p*ssed away the chance to be the main man in this side.

(Pretty sure Varane is going to get lots more game time, btw. Very willing player and usually good value for his place when he plays.)

Kolli plays quite deep and generally comes on as a replacement for Chair with Lloyd in for Frey. At least that’s how it’s been recently. Marti opted for defence in Varane and Fox today rather than another attacker when Chair went off. Rightly so.

I doubt he's "unwilling," he just doesn't play the game that way, and probably can't. The Championship is pretty high tempo, as upper level European leagues go. A player like, for example, Smyth does well with a relatively minimal skill-set, but likely wouldn't crack on in the Portuguese or Dutch leagues for example. Madsen is the opposite.

It depends. Blacburn really upped their physicality in the second half and Lloyd is both stronger and faster which helps against those teams. Kolli reads the game better and is stronger in the box, passing and shooting.

More often than not Marti is good at choosing the best striker for the opponents.

This is what bugs me about Madsen. As you said, every player wants to do well, but he just doesn't look like his heart is into it. He surely must have caught on to the pace of the game here and must have been told plenty of times what is expected of him, but he just doesn't look that interested to me.

I'm not giving up hope, really hope for him (and us) he comes good, but he's pretty much burned up his chances now, so going to be really difficult to get another go.

Agree. He was also playing during the horror of August to November.
The turn around started just as he started scoring. If he stays, which I hope, then next season, he could be the striker we need. He'll have better players around him.
