Preston Reflection 17:38 - Dec 21 with 7030 views | bluenwhite10 | A great result at HQ today in a game when we were a goal down would have possibly lost a few months ago. A great atmosphere today rounded off by a great winner from Jimmy Dunne. Looks like we have a bit of strength in depth obviously not up front but different options. Only negative was the injury to Steve Cook who is a massive player for us. Got what we deserved today against a poor side. MOM today Morgan the young was quality but pushed closely by Varane. Happy Xmas and Best Wishes to all fellow Rangers …. Come on you R’s
Preston Reflection on 09:34 - Dec 22 with 1962 views | GaryBannister86 | Really enjoyed that yesterday. We played really nicely and the continued development of Varane is starting to become really exciting. Morgan was terrific. The telly doesn't give enough justice to his pass to Field for the 1 on 1 miss, from where I was he gave them the eyes as though going to use Frey and switched it fantastically. There's always some sort of downer, and Cook would be the last player right now I would choose to lose long-term. Just as we are coming up to those games like Norwich away and Watford and Leicester where you just know he would be playing the leading role in keeping the b***ards away from our net. Morrison and Fox did very little wrong but, along with JCS, we shall see when tougher questions are asked without Cookie. Thoroughly enjoyed that twit Woodman going from laughing at the start of the second half, to timewasting, to getting beaten by Kolli, to faking it on the sending off, to let them get their tactical chat (get a grip, for once, ref) to picking the Dunne blaster out of his net. Suck that up.

Preston Reflection on 09:22 - Dec 22 by Wilkinswatercarrier | Loved Field tipping Woodmans water away. Funniest thing I've seen since the ballboys kept nicking the towels for the Milwall players to dry their hands on for long throws. |
We were reminiscing about that on the train home. I think Albert was involved in the towel shenanigans too.

How woodman and Angus Gunn are professional goalkeepers still amazes me Goes to show the old man network in football working wonders as both of these keepers make Joe lumley look like Gordon banks , if either turned up at our gaff I think i would call it a day
| And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot
That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles

Preston Reflection on 15:32 - Dec 22 with 1444 views | baz_qpr | On Saito first half he was moving into the 10 position when we were attacking as we tried to overload the right, he was struggling to find space and often when he got the ball his touch was a bit heavy so he had to keep coming back, with Chair coming back he can get a rest in this Christmas period and I'm sure will coexist back better for it

Preston Reflection on 18:02 - Dec 21 by CLAREMAN1995 | Great detailed post here Hunterhoop thank you for the breakdown Can you explain our recent first half performances they were pretty dire yet we seem to now have the ability to pull out draws and wins even from behind . I really liked what I saw from Chair he looked miles away from last week and if he strikes form and Frey stays healthy we could keep moving up the table . Gutted for Cook he was the heart of that team all season through ups and downs it was sickening to see him crumble like that.Fair play to him for walking off with assistance that was powerful image and the fans really responded |
Hunterhoop is correct in his analysis. For your question, Oxford and especially Brizzle did a tactic that exposed our flaws in the middle. They overloaded the sides, blocking us from attacking down the flanks. This meant we could only attack through the middle. With Andersen and Madsen who cannot get up and down the pitch quick enough. Andersen does not have the legs for it and Madsen, may have the legs for it but he needs to get fitter quicker (just like Frey was off the pace last season, but learned to up his game and run run run to be ready for this season). As we had no middle attack option in those two games being forced down the middle with no legs, this meant in those two games we could not get any attacks going as our flanks were doubled up against always. Brizzle were really good at doing this. The only time they failed to do this was when Smyth scored. Oxford failed as they were so poor they let Field come through the middle and score two goals ... nuff said. For PNE, Morgan came in and had the legs for it and also the skill. Hence whatever PNE did we had an answer. He also helped break the press which means it was not all on Varane to do this. PNE tried the same tactic of doubling up on the flanks and were caught out as we now had a middle game. To the extent that Field should have scored when Morgan played him in (all down the middle that move). If Morgan can maintain that capability against other oppo, then we now have a strong midfield in Varane, Field, Morgan with Colback to return for those who miss games due to yellows (Field I am looking at you). It also mean's Madsen is behind all of those 4 now. Somehow, Morgan comes out of the blue and, luckily, is picked to start? No this is not by luck, Marti and the team must have analysed those two games (Oxford & Brizzle) and saw what the oppo were doing and our weakness. Then come up with a plan to fix it. This is what good managers do, mistakes get made, but they fix them. Warbuton was good at doing this. Wildthing was not, he actually made them worse like for example the treatment of Willock. Another thing I noticed is that Beenie comes on for Smyth on the flank. So, I assume as Demble is out till March, that this is the option they are thinking of if Smyth gets injured. I am not sure about Beenie; he runs around a lot (good) and does not do stupid things (also good), but he is not really showing me anything that's a game-changer (not so good). It's early days for Beenie, but I am not seeing anything like I saw for Varane and Saito when they first came in but were poor at the start.

Er you mean Bennie? He's hardly played really, so can't fully judge him yet.

Preston Reflection on 10:13 - Dec 23 with 883 views | baz_qpr | Bennie has tended to be used more defensively to shore up a side when he has come on, if we have been attacking and needing a goal he has tended to put on Anderson. Given that Bennie is 18 as well and has come through the A-league in Australia rather than any premier league academy they must see something there and are trying to give him game time bit by bit. I'm not sure he is an out and out winger more of an old skool wide midfielder

Preston Reflection on 20:02 - Dec 21 by BrianMcCarthy | If we'd won playing poorly today, I would still be down. The best thing about today is that we played so well. I thought we were very good. Gives us so much hope. |
I'll tell you how good we were Brian. In the BBC report of the game, in the managers' comment section, they quote Heckingbottom saying 3 times how good QPR were. Admittedly he complained about the ref being a "homer" and giving us everything, but that aside he knew we played them off the park. So for a manager to actually have to admit we were good, we must have been good. As regards the ref, I thought, if anything, he was way too lenient with the way Preston tried to kick us off the park for most of the game. Perhaps the sending off was a tad harsh but that second goal was coming and the sending off didn't really change the game with only 10mins. You could smell it in the air those last 10mins that we would get the 2nd goal. Let's hope Steve Cook has a fast recovery as he has been immense for us in that back 4 throughout.

In his short career so far Bennie's mainly played LW or RW, but the lad's only 18 so still developing his game.

The wide option with the loss of Smudge (hope he stays ever present at moment) or Saito would be Alfie Lloyd for me. If pushed then maybe Kolli wide Anyone but Anderson or Madsen at the moment

Yeah, it's hard to see either Dane starting at the moment. Somehow Marti has to find a way of getting a tune out of Madsen as we're stuck with him longer term. Andersen will surely move on in the summer.

Not so sure on that. I think Kenneth still a bit within himself and could give 10 to 20% more. Shame as I really like him and he’s been a vital player for us last few years. It’s been said on here before, he’s gone through seasons ever present and churned out 6 or 7 out of 10’s week after week. Has scored some vital goals with the standout being against Huddersfield in the very last seconds of an awful performance by the team. Maybe it’s him who wants out and back to Holland where he has a young family. If not I would consider another two years for him with an understudy signed. It’s quite likely he’ll be sold in January so as not leaving on a freebie.
