Reform seem to be be on a bit of a roll ,winning local elections as they appear ,not as many as the Torys which when you consider the General Election debacle for the Tories is quite surprising but still reducing Labours influence.

The recent even in NYC is a reflection of how well private health insurance is delivered and perceived. Not often do you see a cold blooded assassin lauded by the general public.

I concur.

The NHS is unsustainable; it would probably be cheaper to have some kind of private health insurance than continue to pour money into it.

The problem is the government would waste our hard-earned taxes on something else rather than reduce them.

It would be more sustainable if our population was 55 million ,as it was, not 70 million as is now

We would still need the same facilities however it is financed. GPs are basically private contractors - they aren't doing so well. We would still need more beds, staff, equipment, training and so on , do you think private companies are going to put at that investment in?This is why Nigel Mirage is so full of s*it.

It will never be sustainable unless everyone that uses it, pays into it. Right now we have millions of illegal immigrants, we have health tourists and the unemployed who make no contribution.
Obviously not all of the unemployed are serial wasters, there is a certain percentage who see benefits as a "lifestyle" choice.

Are we at the point where we actually have to refuse all but emergency treatment to anybody who is over 16 but doesn't have a National Insurance number? Are we at the point where we demand people coming into the country legally have to prove they have the resources to pay for healthcare or have health insurance in case anything happens?

Restructuring home care and bringing it under one umbrella, be it NHS, council or private would be a massive help. There are currently too many different providers and it is not linked up as it should be. There are many in hospital beds, in Swansea NHS trust alone this can be up to 300, waiting for care packages and a provider to be in place, this is clogging up the NHS. Release this and let the NHS do what it is best at.

The NHS should be a UK entity and not under the control of devolved governments, specially when the devolved love to cock a snook at Westminster and do things differently to try and score political points while the people who pay their wages suffer.

Care homes should all come under the umbrella of the NHS and that’s all patients should be paying is their state pension, any additional costs should be subsidised by the government. We are supposed to be a very wealthy country and to see elderly people paying up to £1.5 grand a week and having to sell their homes to finance it is nothing short of a national disgrace.

Yes, good points. Bed blocking is a problem as you stated many are waiting for care packages. We don't have enough social workers or care workers to do this.

It's not just the wards though , it's the A&E depts. Something needs to be done about GP surgeries as they could be taking up a lot of the minor work of the A&E depts

NPT A&E is a disgrace how it is run now with no doctors and only nurse run

There are many countries where insurance system works very well. USA is not one of them. In capitalist theory the worst performers would go bust.

Far better to let free market economy and these days free information allow clients to pick the best performers (and let the money grabbers go bust) rather than murder people.

Some bloke in London did design our previius house. he worked for the building compmnay that built the whole estate we used to live on.

Some things may be better devolved by the Welsh NHS is in a hell of a mess, worse than the English version. There is no joined up thinking see.

The whole of the British armed forces are run from London wherever in the world they may be, we let local commanders make day to day decisions but the biggest decisions are taken in London. Unless of course they are attacched to NATO for some reason, or put under the command of say, the USA but then the big decisions are taken in Washington.

On the ground "local" decisions are fine but policy is set and implemented by the seniors.

NPT doesn't have an A&E, it has a minor injuries dept.

NPT does have an "urgent primary care" office which is where our GP sends people who need to be seen, rather than see them himself. That is a disgrace.

With all due respect …. That is a load of old bollox.

They want to privatise the NHS to get large sums of money into private sector hands and their greedy shareholders.

If you think this about patient care then i have a bridge to sell you.

Real? The ONLY A&E in Swansea is in Morriston, the depts in Singleton are minor injuries depts. Just admit you got it wrong and move on

The current UK health secretary has been getting advice from a previous Labour health secretary, that previous person has been making millions out of private health care, I wonder how many of the changes that benefitted the private firms that previous health secretary was responsible for? I wonder what advice they're giving and will it do further harm to the "free at point of access care" that us plebs love and adore? I wonder how mnay of the current government will make millions out of contacts made right now and information shared when they leave office?

Well it's a silly question becayse we know all of them will. You don't see poor ex government ministers these days, they have part time jobs that pay millionaire wages.
