Wireless Earphones Help, Please 19:52 - Oct 29 with 4869 viewsBrianMcCarthy

Ok, need help, please!

I've never owned wireless earphones
It's time.

Can anyone recommend a cheap pair for gym/walking?

Criteria:

1) They don't fall out all of the time - huge problem with wired earphones
2) They don't need a fitting/jack that slots into the iPhone as I want to protect that port
3) Waterproof

Noise cancelling would be great, but not essential.
Quality isn't everything for this set.

Thanks in advance.

Budget?

Cheap but reliable, E17hoop.

Not sure what that that means for wireless ones, but if they don't last then I wouldn't pay a mint for them.

I've got wierd shaped earlobes, and have always found in ear earphones uncomfortable and also fall out quite easily.

Purchased some JBL ones mainly for the train up to London on match day, and they come with different size bits that sit in your ear, so even if your ears are wierd like mine, there should be a size you're comfortable with.

Sounds quite decent as well. Not as good as over hear headphones, but good enough

I’ve used Jabra for years, had the cheaper and more expensive versions and all been good and comfortable in ear.

I have a pair of Sennheiser Momentum headphones, they were bought for me as one of my retirement gifts, they are over ear and they are bloody awesome. the Bluetooth connectivity Is instant and has never disappeared, I use them for my I-POD music library and also late night guitar playing through me amplifiers. They're incredibly light to wear and do not let in outside noise, I swear by them, I had a pair of Bose Bluetooth cans but herself confiscated them when I retired, the Bose were good but not In the same league as the Sennheiser's.

Eh?

What?

Ear buds is the current name for wireless earphones Brian.

You can by tapping them have them in normal mode, ambient which makes sound more clarity and noise reduction which some cuts out all noise.

Some are more effective than others.

You could get some relatively decent set for around £40 to £50.

Top of the range can be ridiculous prices £200 and over and some are too cheap £20 or less but sound not great.

Brand i like is Earfun.

Often have them on if watching on QPR + and doing a few bits around the home but unfortunately they can't change the commentary so we win most of the.time.

If you find a pair that do that, I am all ears !!! 😅
Yes probably one of the worst attempts at humour known to man !! 😂

I got a cheap pair for €12.

Mrs. PH spent a bit more on her buds and, frankly, can't hear what the difference is. I went cheap as opposed to an expensive to see if I like them. I don't. Feckers keep falling out of my ears but, durable buggers been in the washing up and repeatedly dropped but still going!

I'd do that Brian: get cheapest pair to see if they work for you or not. If they do, then keep the packaging and palm them off on someone as a Crimbo present while you upgrade to some top-notch kit.

Thanks everyone.

I think I'll start with Hayes's JBL's - cheap and suitable for my weird-shaped lobes.

As Honney says, I can always go richer next time out.

Appreciate all the info, as ever.

Cheap no names have always failed me within a year, though times change. My Sony WF-500 airbuds don’t have noise cancelling, but they’re great for podcasts walking, running and in the gym and have lasted me about three years now without showing any signs of the battery life waning. About £40 now they have been succeeded by a newer model.

As earwax is impossible to keep out of the crannies, I don’t think anyone would appreciate the gift of a second hand pair.

If you are are after over ear wireless headphones for a budget then the JBL and Soundcore budget offerings are both pretty decent and you should be able to pick up something like JBL710 (unusual in that are a wireless headphone with a wired option) for £35-45. Soundcore Q20's also fit the spec and are on special on Amazon at the moment for around £32 and very good for that money.

If its in the ear ones you are after, options are plentiful, I'd again suggest taking a look at the SOundcore offerings as a starter, depending on your budget and shape preference they have very creditable ones between £20-40 price ranges that tick the boxes you are after.
One other brand I have had in the past and been surprised by is SoundPeats, not so much a budget brand, but maybe less well known, but you tend to get a decent product for the money so see if there is anything in their £30-40 pound ranges and it will usually be decent.

You can go down the more generic route as well, Lenovo have been pushing into the market a lot of the past year and they do have some very good budget offerings around the £20 mark.

Never knowingly understood

Thanks Sheener, I looked at them too. Wasn't sure about the fit.

Will keep in mind for the next time.

Deal: soundcore by Anker A20i True Wireless Earbuds, Bluetooth 5.3, With App for Custom Sound, 28H Long Playtime, Water-Resistant, 2 Mics for Clear Calls, Single Earbud Mode, Compact Design https://amzn.eu/d/9ya631M

I have also found some of the cheaper versions to work really well, something like this for less than £20 is worth a look. Always a good back up option when travelling as well.

Clean your lug holes out because I'm not rethinking what to get you for Christmas this late in the day.

By the way: how did you get on with the butt plug from Aldi I got you last year?

I'm a bit of an audiophile, own quite a few over ear headphones that I spent a bit on. But for the gym I use in ear JBL Tune Beams, fairly affordable, sound decent, and reasonable noise cancellation

I've had constant problems over the years trying to keep earphones in during exercise.

Less so these days thankfully because there seem to be a few options around for we strange-of-lug-hole.

Quite a few to choose from on Amazon - you'll have never heard of the brands of course. These are my current ones and seem to do the job fine after about a year of a couple of times a week use. Decent sound and fit without shelling out.

I do have a pair of Powerbeats Pro if you start feeling spendier - they were a Xmas present, and not a brand I'd have looked at, but find them to be really good and a great fit. But the 20-30 quid strange name ones do the job for gym trips.

Sony win all the best budget wireless earbud awards on your classic review sites. C500s usually about £40, can get a noise cancelling version for about £80

I know it's not really what you asked for, but I run a lot and for running, earphones never really worked for me, they kept falling or get irritating and each step would resonate. I since found the bone conductions ones https://shokz.com/ and they are really brilliant. Not great for music, although surprisingly decent, but fantastic for podcasts and audio books, and extremely comfortable. A bit pricey, but after buying about half a dozen different pairs of earphones and never been satisfied, I've been using the same shokz everyday for about 2 years

I like the foam fitments rather than the silicone and have a set of HA-Z250T The noise cancelling is excellent when I'm on the tube and the battery lasts forever.

Id have to say sennheiser, been buying headphones from them for ever

You get a 2 year guarantee so as long as you don’t lose them you can get a brand new pair for free in 20/22 months time

They usually send you a model up as well

I’ve had a couple of spendy pairs that I lost over the years, and then bought the Sony CF700s on a deal on a cross channel ferry in the summer and I’d say they were the best of the lot.

Really good sound/battery and never fall out
