Our best eleven and bench with this squad 00:24 - Oct 6 with 2231 views | numptydumpty | Team Nardi Paal JCS Cook Dunne Field Colback Dembele Chair Kolli Lloyd Subs Walsh Morrison Fox/Ashby Varane/Dixon-Bonner Madsen/Andersen Saito Celar/Frey Smyth Would have Lloyd up front. Looks powerful and strong and runs at defence. Can't understand why Kolli not in and around the squad. Again strong player, which is what we are lacking. Only one of Madsen or Andersen in the squad and feel more to be offered from Madsen Varane I like. Shame he got sent off but think again the potential is possible. Saito is similar to Smyth but probably a better end ball. Frey or Celar. Think Celar will be more help to the team, although it seems neither will hardly ever trouble the scorers. Our best eleven and bench with this squad on 08:37 - Oct 6 with 2032 views | stevec | However you dress it up, we have a powderpuff attacking midfield. You have to laugh watching managers treating football like a degree in nuclear physics, the only successful seasons this Century have been managers who treat it like an O level in woodwork. It’s ancient, it’s old school, but the only real hope we’ve got is reverting to 4-4-2 and filling those round holes with round pegs, which is the nearest formation we have that fits our best players when all fit. Marti will not do that and this time the gap by January will probably be beyond us.

"Marti will not do that and this time the gap by January will probably be beyond us." We heard all this negative hyperbole most of last season. When we were in real trouble and quite a few points adrift. Many pointed out on here that we weren't "down" and although in trouble a few wins would get us out of it. It has been a hugely disappointing start to the season undoubtedly, but I don't think we are doomed. We've got a popular manager who has proved he can change tack, we've put in a couple of performances that prove we can do it (Luton), we've got new signings who will hopefully get better and most importantly we've got big players to come back. None of these things were true of this time last season. Also, how about supporting the manager? He gave us a cracking end to the season last year when inheriting an absolute pile of tosh. Doesn't he deserve support throughout - I thought last season he was our best manager for years and I don't fancy embarrassing myself being proved wrong in that just because we've had a poor start. I also don't think it was his decision to sell Dykes, he didn't seem that happy about it. Not to repeat the argument, but thinking Frey and Celar are somehow a satisfactory offering with no Dykes around is quite a stretch. In Marti I trust, I fancy him to turn it around.

I put Kolli there as he has not had a chance. Frey and Celar are both SHIT They been given chances and neither doing owt yet. I saw couple of the premier season friendlies and both Kolli and Lloyd would put as having more potential than our two present number nines. Just think for me seen something in both and they both hungry. Frey occasionally works but rarely and Celar despite the odd nice touch is totally lacking in confidence. Give the two young boys a bit of a run. Love to be proved wrong with both Frey and Celar but one decent spell against Luton for Frey and nowt from Celar, the boys could not be worse so far.

The Dykes transfer is really odd as we're short up top and we sold a (albeit much-maligned) option without replacing them. And then have seemingly ignored Alfie and Kolli (if they were the reason we didn't buy someone).
Our best eleven and bench with this squad on 10:15 - Oct 6 with 1683 views | GaryBannister86 | Well I think the Dykes transfer does show the other side of the "we've got to take money for our players when it's offered" argument, which is of course a very strong one. Problem is, when you've got nothing, or worse, to replace them - it can be hugely problematic. I don't care if you do think Dykes was hopeless, always on his heels or whatever - he was a body who undoubtedly helped defend corners, could hold the ball up, and if Dykes was criticised for his in and out performances then to me Frey has offered about 90 decent minutes in just under a year. And Celar, well who knows. We've allowed our squad to be so weak in cover for years and years and that's the issue. Too many pointless loans, not enough proper signings. And now we are suffering. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Thank goodness you aren’t our head coach. Jury still out on Celar but Frey has been one of our best players this season and has scored GOALS which are a rare commodity for this team at the moment. Decision to sell Dykes and not replace him with a third striker enabling us to rotate a bit and not flog Frey to death is coming back to haunt us.

Well I want him to succeed and want him to stay. But sometimes that means sacrificing your ideals and finding a way to get results. There is no way he’s going to get a song out of this three behind the single striker. Persevere with this and we will require another miracle courtesy of the January transfer market. One day that won’t work. Beyond that I’m fed up with the same scenario year after year.

That is startling. The centre midfield is soft as sh!t, and marmite Colback is the key. Does a lot of the unseen ugly work, hat probably doesn't appear in the data. Namely, fcking tackling. Everyone is back after the break, fingers crossed.

Gazza in fairness called this early days, I woke up to his importance at Plymouth away last season, when realising Hadyn could'nt play on the half-turn either, And it took Colback to come on and open up the pitch to get us out of our half ad up the pitch and away from our penalty area, We need to build the team around Colback & Chair and consider 4-2-3-1 remains the best formation for the players we have this season.

Frey is OK so far and Celar yes agree, he could do well. Probably written when p@@ed off with poor performance yesterday. Yes and I think Marti more than probably better qualified than myself to be the present head coach. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I don't think Dykes would have made any difference, the service to Frey has been awful and would have been the same if it was Dykes up front Selling him wasn't a problem, not replacing him seemed daft at the time though and still does now

In that formation, I would play Smyth instead of Lloyd. I agree with you about Ryan Kolli. He would be ahead of Andersen, Madsen, Saito and Bennie. We have to make ourselves harder for the opposition to penetrate and that means having a greater presence, both physical and in speed of thought, in all areas. Chair is physically strong and difficult to dispossess. Smyth isn't but has enough experience at this level and knows what to expect/what is required. If we were to play 4-4-2, I'd have Lloyd alongside Frey with Dembele missing out. Lloyd looks very clumsy with the ball, doesn't have great close control/first touch, and in the ideal world would have been loaned out. However, I believe that he could offer more than Celar. It's clear why previous managers had the utility player a la Ball or Cameron in their squads. A younger version of either would fill the void in the absence of either Field or Colback. Madsen and Varane, at this current time, aren't good enough in my opinion. [Post edited 7 Oct 12:19]
