Terrible news. I was fortunate to see him win us the Test match against Sri Lanka in 2001 at the SCC ground in Colombo. He scored a Century and also got runs in the second innings on a turning wicket, when Murulitharan was bamboozling every other batsman. Throw in temperatures of over 100 degrees and high humidity and it gives you a idea of how good he was. RIP Graham Thorpe, a fantastic batsman. |  | | |

He scored 114 on his Test debut, the first Englishman to do so for about 20 years. An incredible, fearless batsman who scored over 6000 Test runs. Along with other 'lefties', such as Gower and Cook, he was a joy to watch and a nightmare for bowlers.
Very sad to lose him at such a young age, but he had been ill for some time. RIP Thorpey. |  |
