The Belgian paper says he attended court on Friday (the previous hearings he hadn't attended) with a new lawyer and asked for a fresh trial but that was rejected and he was sentenced. I'm still waiting for a "but..." |

Sounds like he threw a stone at the victim, rather than the earlier reported smashed his skull with a rock.

That said, if he did do something as stupid as hitting someone with a rock, that sentence sounds lenient.

Again, none of us were there, none of us know the context. It's possible it was self defence, or he was worried for the safety of someone else. Not excusing him, but none of us know what happened there, but clearly it was some horrific violence perpetrated by someone who has always come across as one of the good guys. |  |
