Guinness Shandy!!! 18:56 - Sep 28 with 8852 viewsWatfordR

46 years of drinking in pubs and that’s the first time I’ve ever seen anyone ask for one!

I’m not sure he’d be allowed in Kilburn!!!

Guinness Shandy!!! on 01:10 - Sep 29 by Boston

Back in the 80's, Mrs Boston requested I refrain from this combination or our impending nuptials would be in doubt...

Half pint of..

Topped with..

..and yes, I slept well.

Black and Tan was a thing in Ireland back in the eighties.
Guinness with a top up of Smithwicks.
Smithwicks was and still is probably the worst alcoholic drink ever invented!!

Many years back I used to go into the Sun in Askew Rd ( long gone ), and some of the West Indian blokes drank Guinness and Lucozade. Never tried it myself.

1970s protein shake. Visionary.

Guinness and evaporated milk is another West Indian one I've been told. Actually sounds not bad - couple of those with your curry goat.

yeah, used to live round the corner from a West Indian takeaway, the drinks were really nice.

Nothing wrong with Smithwicks! That's a bit like saying the same about a pint of Pride - they both do the job.

Black and tan often had Harp in it in my experience - it's a bit of a problematic drink though, culturally and gastronomically...

I remember going over to Ireland in the early eighties and most pubs only seemed to have 3 draught beers then.Guinness,Smethwicks or Harp.I was amazed to see Guinness glasses at various stages of being filled.
Alas I was only a callow youth into lager back then. Now I can’t get enough of Dublins finest export.

Great to have easy access to it, probably the food I miss most these days tbh*. I had one at the end of my street for years and became quite friendly with them and always very generous with their rum punch if they were on it.

(*I know London has good Jamaican/West Indian food but it's in limited supply in eh Chiswick. I'm always open to a good suggestion though if anyone has one - there's a decent one in Camden if a wee bit on the fancy side (is it the one connected with Usuain Bolt?), and one in Brixton out the back of the market. Never been to that roti shop on the Uxbridge Rd I must admit.)

Cannily served at about 2C so it doesn’t taste of anything. All I can remember of drinking it was how uncomfortably cold my stomach was.

My father in law was sacked from a bar job, on his first night, for refusing to serve a Guinness and Blackcurrant to a punter, who was a regular.
The landlord asked what the problem was and my father in law replied, I am not fookin up a good pint.

Guinness and Champagne (Black Velvet) is the only combination allowed.
Gets you very pissed and a hangover to make pray for death.

I had this about 30 years ago, from what I remember it was very nice, although I don't remember that much if I'm being honest..............

"Also like the Irish Moss drink, the Jamaican Guinness Stout Punch is a notorious drink among men (and some women too) who seek “vigor”. It is believed “to put lead in your pencil “, “put it back” and boost energy that will lead to an increased libido. Yes, it's like a Jamaican version of a sex drive tonic."

I went in the new white horse last night and the Guinness in there was only £3.35 a pint. That is cheaper than the weatherspoons opposite the station.
And they had imperial leather soap in the toilets. What a difference to what it used to be like in there.

I had no idea the woman who described this to me was seeking to increase my virility.

I feel violated and titillated, in roughly the same proportions as the recipe for this demon natural viagra thing.

Just off to the Tescos, back in a bit.

Do you remember Hugo ( nicknamed Eye-go) the guvnor in there? He was boss eyed so you never quite knew who he was serving. I miss the Sun pub.

A man after my own heart.

I'm very close to putting this thread on ignore. Or vomiting. Or both.

Ferociously sweet teeth out there, if you've ever tried Dragon Stout.

Bottled Smithwicks is a steady seller in this part of the world. Good quality, has a taste that I would describe as bracken, now I’ll have to look that word up, see what it means.

I prefer Murphy's as I hate drinking and eating and 6 pints of Guinness feels like you've eaten a burger to boot.
