Exactly. And you stop the cross by having players there to do it. Keohane couldn’t on his own, which was obvious. The waffle was to point out the bleeding obvious to any football people.

I'll have a gander at that tomorrow night. Aye, noticed he scored tonight; he always will, but it also helps when his team has got a better defensive structure.

The writing was on the wall as soon as last season finished, when players were ditched and the playing budget for this season was decided.

Of course budgets etc matter, but there is no reason at all why we shouldn’t be better placed than we are. That has little to do with budget/wages/players who left and arrived. The off the field issues which need urgently addressing impact what happens on the field, but they do not make the outcome inevitable. Our playing performances are the responsibility of the management team and the players and we should not be in the bottom four. Nothing can convince me otherwise, nor it would seem many others who have witnessed the season unfurl.

Match Thread: AFC Wimbledon v Rochdale on 23:08 - Apr 27 by 442Dale | He’s making a big impact at the business end of the season. Would expect him to get a winner at Wembley too. Nobody would ever doubt his impact on sides, but his absence from ours on the pitch has been negligible, as TVOS says goals aren’t our issue. It’s strange how season long most have seen it’s been about the style of play and awareness to identify how to win games, no matter what players we have. As illustrated further if that is indeed a record. |
Oh i agree, I'm glad he left when he did; thought that at the time and nothing since has happened to change my mind. It really was meant as a side note in reply to TVOS

No I know, there comes a time when players move on and it was right for all concerned. For the player it was a shame the season ended early and him missing out on the chance of the record, it would have been a more natural end to his Dale career.

I was worried as soon as the team sheet announced that McShane was injured again. If he's at the back we see out that game.

Clearly in a world of his own, and will have a relegation on his CV before long. And a club's worst home league run in it's history to tag it with. Maybe a timely indicator that he is not a football manager. Sincerely hope the alleged offers come in for BBM ASAP and his contract can be bought out. We've had the best we'll get from BBM because the basics that kept us up post-Hill have mostly deserted him. A rare Stoical fight last night which is good to see but going down after 2 full seasons on his watch says it all.

I have to disagree. This squad is easily capable of a comfortable lower mid-table finish. The fact we haven’t achieved that is down to the tactics of BBM.
Match Thread: AFC Wimbledon v Rochdale on 01:10 - Apr 28 with 2051 views | DaleFan7 | The second goal is the worst. Absolutely no communication between Lynch and O'Connell as to who's ball it is which causes O'Connell to crash into a charging Lynch, a spill and an easy tap in.

I'd say so when our best players are available but too often is the case that they aren't. McShane is our 2nd best CB, always injured. McLaughlin is our best RB, always injured. Lund is our best CM and surprisingly got a lot of goals this season, spent a lot of time on the injury list. Humphrys should be our best outlet for goals and the times him and Beesley have played together seemed to be when we started scoring a decent amount again. He also seems to spend as much time on the physio table as off it. This is effectively the spine of the team and the best players in certain positions. We need to either get better back ups in place for when they are injured or we need to make hard decisions when comparing wages used on these players and the actual time they're playing.

That's to blithely ignore the dire tactics imposed by BBM, unsuited to the level we're at, and which includes an abysmal lack of game management which schoolboys are taught, let alone professional footballers whether they're top class, average or playing in the tenth tier Apart from that, you may have a point. Far too often we've had a point when it should've been three; or none at all. That's down to the above, not the overall quality of our squad.Throw into that mix the most injudicious use of substitutions i've ever had the misfortune to witness and your point falls away completely

Morning folks, not sure I can add much positivity. I suppose at least we have made it to the penultimate game of the season and are holding on by our finger nails. On the signing of injury prone players (I know I have said this many times already) surely the medical staff's advice was sort before they were given contracts. If not why not, if they said those players should be likely to play enough games to warrant a contract then shouldn't some of the blame lay at their feet. If they advised BBM against signing them well........

You’re forgetting Jimmy Ryan. Who has, apart from odd intervals, been permanently injured for about 3 years. Any player is at risk of getting a serious injury, but when you sign so many players with serious injury records you really are tempting fate. It’s like when West Ham signed Jack Wilshire and he, quelle fooking suprise, only played 16 games for them in 3 seasons. Out of interest, what did they fooking expect? [Post edited 28 Apr 2021 7:16]

The medical staff are part of the management team, James. It's a collective responsibility. Also, in looking at these players in the first place, their fitness and injury records would have already been known. I'd also add our current good run of form and results has come with two of the aforementioned hardly included. As is constantly being repeated, tactics, formation and game management are the main things that will relegate us.

Agree with you on all of the above. Just on the signing of injury prone players the management team, I'm guessing must've thought it a gamble worth taking when compared to the alternatives that we would be able to afford.

You don’t need a doctor...take a look at their records in the football yearbook. If they haven’t played a full season for several years they are either damaged goods or no good or both. Leave doctors to treating the sick.
Match Thread: AFC Wimbledon v Rochdale on 08:16 - Apr 28 with 1539 views | BigDaveMyCock | Some of the questions, in particular about the defence, were being asked in the last few years of the Hilly reign. The lack of dominance at the back and the perennial conceding from set pieces. It’s not just a BBM issue. I remember how many of us at the time were desperate for a Peter Clarke type figure (I wonder if Hilly has changed his mind now he’s at Tranmere?) I don’t like sacking managers, never have done but a change is now needed. We need to have a different approach as to how the team defends, ball retention just isn’t enough. A new approach as to what a defender should actually, first and foremost, do.

Given his new contract and the fact we've not lost for 5 games at the end of the season will give the board perfect ammunition to keep him on and try and pedal season tickets trying to keep this momentum going into league two. When you look at the season as a whole, which most sensible people do, we've not been good enough from the boardroom to the players on the pitch.

'I suppose at least we have made it to the penultimate game of the season and are holding on by our finger nails'. BBM will no doubt see this as a positive, he's banged on previously about how people were expecting us to have been marooned at the bottom by Christmas, and how he's proved them wrong by us not being in that position. He seems to have a very low bar when it comes to how you would define a successful season.
