do most on here still have the old fish and chips on a Friday.
well now its just about anything with chips. as a kid it was always mauds in latimer road....rock and chips, pickeld onion and crackling. mauds went years ago, so now its the savoy in east acton.
Well this was a bit of a jolt when I was reading the first page of this thread now realising its 4+ years old and saw a post by 2Thomas2Bowles that was unexpected but beautiful at the same time. His name was Jim and he is gone to the Promised Land for a few years now so if there is an afterlife he could be reading this The fish and chips in England on the greasy newspaper from by gone days remain the benchmark I suspect because in the US its either raw in the middle or you would lose a tooth eating its so hard . I normally stick to grilled Salmon ,Cod or Walleye when its in season and mashed potatoes but would enjoy a nice Fish and Chips right now

ahh...the crackling, that was something else...everyone asked for that.
yes david would always be in there helping out, think he went a bit downhill when george died, and maud eventually sold up.
another shame with bolts going as well, all us out the suttons, parents and grandparents used to shop in there. have'nt seen the son from bolts, think his name was john, for a couple of years now, often in the red lion and pineapple, acton, or the plough and harrow king street.
I maybe wrong but think John passed away.... Jane the sister married a mate of mine, Ray Powell.... they had a scrapy.... not seen them for years now....

Growing up we used to go either to Nautilus on Fortune Green Road, or Sea Shell on Lisson Grove.
Both still going!
Same family running the Nautilus and still very good.
My consumption has recently jumped from a handful of times a year to most weekends now. I blame my elderly dad as it's fav from his local chippy when I visit him, but I'm secretly loving it.

Just got back from a weekend in Norfolk , found a little chip shop stalham on the first night had to wait 35 mins to be served , well worth the wait haddock£8.50 a piece same for cod hand cut chips family run place , amazing place only opens 3 nights as week as well.
Does anyone remember the Embassy cafe just down from Latimer Road? In the 80s and 90s all their food was homemade, their pies were absolutely delicious! If I had a job near there (back in days when I was P&Ding for a living) I loved going there. But I think the people who ran it back then are long gone.
There are still some decent greasy spoons in the area, the Station Cafe next to Kensal Rise station was good last time I went there.
