Substitute goals on 14:20 - Feb 28 with 1390 views | JacksDad | Garry Micklewhite I remember used to score a lot from the bench.
Substitute goals on 14:22 - Feb 28 with 1387 views | DannyPaddox | For an each way bet - Steve Burke. Did Matt Smith get as much as 4 the other year? Got to be up there with the most in one season. [Post edited 28 Feb 2020 14:26]

Good shout. Brentford away springs to mind.
Substitute goals on 14:54 - Feb 28 with 1310 views | terryb | It's got to be Mick Leach surely? But then again, after the 69/70 season he probably started most matches. With the exception of a reasonable number in75/76.

Substitute goals on 23:05 - Feb 28 with 940 views | plasmahoop | I didn't think subs started until the mid 70 s. Didn't Keith peacock get the first subs goal for Charlton? Would probably count mick leach out

Hold on I'm talking roobish, just looked it up. Mid 60"s. Should look it up before posting really. The perils of beer
Substitute goals on 23:29 - Feb 28 with 922 views | DannyPaddox | Substitutes were introduced at the beginning of the 65/66 season. Keith Peacock (Charlton - Dad of Gav) was the first substitute but didn’t score. First sub to score was Bobby Knox of Barrow. Great-grandfather of Amanda Knox. I believe our first sub was Frank Sibley but I’m not sure who our first sub to score was - I’ve got John Collins in my head but I could be wrong. Had he gone by ‘65. Worth noting that initially subs weren’t made for tactical reasons. A team only replaced a player if he was maimed or killed. Any other reason was tantamount to cheating so though Leach was sub a lot in the 60s he might not have come on that many games in which to score. Ah maybe Ian Morgan was our first scoring substitute. Okay I’m not sure if the bit about Amanda Knox is true.

I think it only took a couple of seasons for subs for tactical reasons to be allowed. This was probably because every team had a player go down "injured" whenever the manager wanted them to!
