The phone and tablet will be with the I.T. Boffins and anything sent or received is likely to be found, as is the phone number, which they can trace previous usage areas to (I assume nobody even in BL9 area would be thick enough to use a contract phone), and trace any incoming and outgoing calls.
IP address used on the tablet may still exist and any personal data as well as fingerprints will be looked at, and that’s before they trace where it was posted/collected and examine all packaging and potential source of anything else involved in the package such as wrapping, wire and other bits.
The person or people who did this should be absolutely shitting themselves now, particularly if they have bragged about it to anyone. It’s probably almost impossible to not leave any trace and the police are going to go after them 100% for a bloody long sentence when found.
The only other thing that crossed my mind was if this whole thing was an exercise that nobody was party to other than top bods to see how it was dealt with and investigated, but that’s probably less likely than a moron with nothing better to do! |  |
