Whatever happend to #TEAMROCHDALE??? 10:49 - Mar 22 with 18677 viewsmexmike

As per the title, what happend to team Rochdale, ive never felt more detached from the club as I do right now, in 25 years of following the dale.

Its hard to put my finger on what it is, maybe due to work I cant get to every game now but there still seems to be a growing gap between the already tiny fan base and the club itself.

I see the things they are doing, like this £65 gala dinner (cancelled after fan outrage) Wembley coaches more expensive than all the other coach companies (reduced after 're-negotiating' to name just a few.
I watch Hills post match interviews and after terrible defeats and performances he almost seems to be grinning about it.

Like I say, maybe its just me but I do personally think the club and the fans are growing further apart, something a club like ours cant afford to do!

I think if the season was going well, a lot of the disconnect would go away/or not be as noticeable . When we are winning I can just about tolerate Hill's nonsense.

I dont mind going down to be honest, its part and parcel of supporting Dale, course its not great but I have to agree, Hill doesnt look arsed in the slightest.
We had all those games in hand and gave ourselves a great footing to get ourselves out of this mess, but poor tactics and selections seem to have put pay to that.

Why is Dobre not getting a chance, is he yet another Hill signing that we dont get to see, that doesnt get his chance??

I agree going down is not the end of the world as you say its part and parcel supporting Dale or lower league teams like dale give me a cycle of promotion and relegation every few years than 100 years of nothing, Its not what is happening on the field that's causing the disconnect.

Wow we lost a game so Hill's not arsed anymore. Laughable. I guess if we take points from the Scunthorpe or Shrewsbury games he'll be ok.

In the very last interview I heard him give (post-match Tuesday) he said "I don't want to go down to League 2". I can't be fecked finding it, and I'm sure the "attitude" that emanates from him is in part to try to take the pressure off the players in his own way. To start to speculate what he is really thinking or feeling based on that though, probably serves no purpose whatsoever. He had a mic shoved in his face and he made some comments. That's my take anyway.

Up the Dale - NOT for sale!

I think part of the problem is that we used to all be in it together as underdogs and therefore adopted a 'them v us' attitude of some sort. Consequently, we've become victims of our own 'success' and a fair few have now got ideas above their station. You know what they say, once you reach the top, there's only one way to go...

Team Rochdale only applies in May when they want your money for season tickets. Once the season has started they couldn't give 2 sh*ts about the fans.

You also mention terrible defeats and performances. I've certainly not seen many of them recently - certainly not since the turn of the year when Delaney and Humphrys have come into the squad and we've gone to a back 3. Recent form is probably more mid table than bottom 4. I'm not sure how it's going to go now with Cannon out though as he's been one of our best players these last 2 months. Certainly the next 2 games will show which way we are likely to be heading.

Trying to seriously analyse a post-match interview is a pointless exercise. Emotions are still high, the adrenalin is still pumping and whether after a win or a defeat, words are hard to formulate into any meaningful sentence.

Interviewers know that and try to get some kind of soundbite that can be dissected and discussed for days. Some do it simply to cause mischief and create a few headlines.

I don't believe for one minute that anyone connected with the club would advocate relegation, or indeed, look forward to it. To suggest that is the case, is patent nonsense. We used to hear that the club don't want promotion. Now that we've achieved the next level, the cynics start again.

I don't think they fear relegation, but they certainly don't want it. KH said he wouldn't be embarrasesd if we were relegated. Why should he be ? It's football. It happens. It's an unfortunate part of the job. It's how he and the club reacts to it that's important.

Hopefully, it won't happen. I don't think it will, but if it does, it won't be the end of the world.

The only downside of relegation is the financial aspect imo.
I think some where on this forum are some figures that show Lge 1 teams receiving over a million pounds a season which is significant really.
As the club wouldnt have had to put much to that amount for the wage structure..

On the plus side it gives Hill a chance to rebuild if he gets the player recruitment right...

As for cutting the playing budget from this season into next season the club should give hill the same budget to help build that squad never mind a reduced one...

A lot of the comments don’t come from post-match interviews, though.

Maybe start going watching City? There recruiting last summer was pretty good. Heaven forbid Hill can't uncover a Hogan/Dawson on a free every fooking year.

It's not about uncovering even a star every year, just a couple of bog standard league 1 players would have done the trick this year to keep us up

While I agree with the sentiment that he won’t always get it right and that there’s plenty of examples of how well he does with his budget, Hill’s recruitment last summer was poor. His subsequent selections with the squad he had weren’t good either, both are the main reasons we are where we are today.

Don’t like it go and watch city/Utd? Word for word what one of the older supporters said to the younger lot who were complaining about our shit performance at Bradford away. I thought our aim was to become an established league one side. The last day or two has confirmed it’s also the fans of this club who are tinpot as well as some of our directors and our manager who sees no shame in us going down.

And his recruitment in Jan has been better with Humphrys and Delaney making a massive difference to how we've been playing. He's not a miracle worker - maybe he couldn't get the players he'd targeted in the summer? Who knows?

Why do you keep having a go at other fans?

'Tinpot' and 'tight wads' are two descriptions you've used this week, both of which are inaccurate, unfair and show a complete disregard for others' personal circumstances and opinions.

What makes you so special that you can keep referring to others in such a way?

The ones who don’t think we belong in league 1 and see no shame in us going back to the basement division. And the ones who pretend they were on a noble crusade to bring the club back to the working classes by getting the Gala night cancelled when the reality is they didn’t want to spend a few quid on a night out.Ive been told that isn’t the reason and to go to the trust desk next Saturday to have a chat.

That's what I'm saying: he isn't a miracle worker and he's definitely made better additions in the last window, but his previous choices have cost us and to admit as much would actually help fans appreciate his position more.

Even after the squad had been assembled, he should have utilised it much better than he did for half a season. That criticism is justified and valid, I'd expect him to admit as much.
