Joins Coventry on Loan.

Just in time to play us next week. Wonderful!

On a side note, how much of his wage are they paying do you reckon? Ridiculous.

We've beaten sides with better players than Joe Cole in them.

I doubt we will be paying any of his wages to be fair

Gimp, it’s all well and good marking my post down (how dare I not be so defeatist and instead choose to show optimism), but we have faced off against teams with better players and come away with a win before.

Let’s look at Joe Cole, though. I’m not denying that from a technical point of view he is far too good for League One but, at this level, technique alone isn’t enough. He hasn’t played a full game in the Premier League since Boxing Day 2013. He’s still only 33 but hasn’t been involved in the cut-and-thrust of weekly football for some time.

So, yes, I agree he’s a great acquisition for Coventry and he may well prove instrumental against us, but to write us off before the match has even taken place, solely on his inclusion, is madness.

Most of the Southampton and Bournemouth teams of late who pitched up at Spotland were littered with players now plying their trade week by week in the Premiership.

They didn't leave Spotland with many points or accolades.

Precisely. I had Southampton firmly in mind when I wrote that post.

Hopefully Cole is confirmed in the squad in plenty of time for a few more fans to make the away journey - could add a few hundred to the gate.

I don't think either of those sides had any players who had
3 premier league winners medals
3 FA cup winners medals
A champions league runners-up medal
More than 50 England caps
Joe cole could arguably be the best player to play at Rochdale in a league game.

Should imagine Gary McAllister is up there as well.

Strangely enough also playing for Coventry. Did we win as well?

Arguably one of the most decorated.

Yep, 2-0, FA Cup fourth round in January 2003.

We've won every home game we've played v Coventry, albeit one on penalties.

Therefore, using "Sheffield United Rules", it's definitely three points tomorrow*.

* Not that previous results will affect tomorrow's result.

That's an impressive CV, but I would argue that Joe Cole isn't at that standard anymore. The players at Bournemouth and Southampton were on their way up, if you like.

Anyway, that's by the by.

As I said, I'd wager Joe Cole is still better technically than anyone in League One but that isn't the be all and end all, as we all know.

He may well be instrumental tomorrow night. He might run the game without breaking a sweat, who knows, but why see his inclusion as a negative before a ball has been kicked?

If anything it will add to the media interest in the game and, as has been pointed out by others, may encourage a few more to come along tomorrow night.

We've done okay in the past against teams with so-called star players in their number. I reckon most of our players will relish the chance to play against him as much as his new team-mates will the chance to play alongside him.

I'm quite looking forward to seeing him.
It's like a return to the old days when players went up through the divisions in their youth and then did the opposite trip in the twilight of their career.
Hope he brings his son with him (Devante) and his dad, Andy / Andrew.

Too late, unfortunately, to bring his granddad George, but might compensate by bringing his cousin Lily

There's at least one regular bench-warmer at Dale that applies to.
