You’re doing it to annoy. THB signed his contract last summer with a clause that kicked in if we were promoted. It is not a new contract or Man City and the player could seek a better deal. Adam Lallana is contracted to Brighton until the end of June. His Southampton contract now signed it would appear is post-dated to July 1st. Not many players’ contracts include annual bonuses any more; performance bonuses are more normal. There is nothing to stop two clubs and a player agreeing a contract in June which clicks in in July if that’s what suits the parties. Or indeed signing a contract now which clicks in next March, as we have done withe Japanese kid we have signed. Or you signing a contract to complete on a house in a month’s time. The more usual reason that clubs delay signing players early in the summer is that they then become liable for the player’s wages. Buying clubs prefer selling clubs to pay those for as long as possible.
Finally, there is no apostrophe in bonuses. |

You are wrong about July 1st being important. There are plenty of transfers happening. The contracts being signed may be dated July 1st perhaps but there is no reason not to agree and sign now. You are also wrong about THB not happening until July 1st — that deal is contained in last year’s contract signed by both clubs and the player. Otherwise it could all fall down by any party trying to get a better deal at the last minute. We have six first team centre halves now with the returning loanees, so I don’t see us adding any more until we have offloaded a few of them. |

We do now have a lot of very good championship level players, and a few more coming back from season-long loans in the summer. How many are PL ready if we go up? Alcaraz was one and maybe the Man City imports will all be OK. I don’t see much else… We are likely to see a Nottingham Forest style summer me thinks, with a dozen leaving and as many arriving. Could be like thst even if we don’t go up. |

I think there’s a sell on clause so if we sold for £50m City would get maybe £10m of that, so keeping him a year and earning 40 next year and keeping goodwill with City would be the best option. We could get their next wizzkid in exchange maybe too.
Same thing with Tino, let Chelsea have him back when they want him and not antagonise them by selling the player to a rival. |
