Judge Magill told McCourt "one thing was clear was your level of intoxication" It was always known how much he liked a drink but how good a player could he have been otherwise? Probably the most exciting player, in terms of short bursts of genius and crowd anticipation , that I have ever witnessed in a Dale shirt! So sad! [Post edited 10 Jul 2023 14:34]

As someone once remarked… “Football - bloody hell!” 😆 |

6 added minutes announced! Wednesday level the tie on 98 minutes! How ironic 🤣🤣🤣 |

Apologies if I am being a bit thick but does ‘three options have been triggered’ mean that the contracts are agreed and signed? If so, and Hendo will still be with us next season, then that has cheered me up after a miserable few weeks! I would be quite happy with Rodney and Hendo as 2 of our attacking options! When you consider they got 19 goals between them in a poor team that often created very few chances I think that is a fair return? |

"Possibly McNulty's last post match chat.."? I sincerely hope so! Nothing against the guy but I can't see myself wanting to renew for next season to watch more of that 'style' of football. First half today I thought we actually played quite well, had a few chances and deservedly took the lead. Second half - I've had more fun at the dentists than watching the dull, toothless 'football' that I witnessed in those 45 minutes. We just sat back, invited Harrogate to keep coming at us and barely ventured over the half way line. On the one occasion we did make a forward surge down the right hand side and Sinclair got into a decent position to put a cross into the box, he stopped, turned and played the ball back to SAJ and we lost any attacking impetus we had. YAWN!!! This in a game which had nothing riding on it whatsoever so there is no excuse for playing such risk-averse football. In the whole of the second half we had 1 shot (Hendo's effort which deflected onto the bar) and a free kick from Dodgson which sailed listlessly beyond the far post. In isolation that lack of creating chances might be no big cause for concern but when it becomes such a regular occurrence in so many games that we really needed to win (Wimbledon, Mansfield, Bradford, Tranmere (1st half) and Stockport) and then today in a game where we should have been able to play with the shackles off) then that makes me very worried for our chances next season under Jim if he gets the job. And before anyone asks - No - I don't know who I do want to get the job! |

No doubt the 'new' Bury (AFC) were hoping to storm their way through the leagues with them being such a massive club at that level? Think they might have had a bit of a reality check though as they 'only' finished 4th, a distant 12 points behind the league winners Vauxhall Motors, in the season just ended. I am just hoping that we at least manage to stabilise in the National League but reading some of the comments on another thread, about possibly entering administration, leaves me worried that we could be meeting them sooner, and at a lower level, than we might have wished? |

How many divisions are they below us and how long before we could potentially play them again in a league fixture? |

Happy to hear that - think I just assumed that the kids had moved on to a new target. Must make an appointment to get my ears tested! |

Missed that but I guess it explains the chant of “Who’s the w**ker in the green?” that I thought I heard! |

If Jim thought the atmosphere was toxic last week then he would have had a rude awakening today! Some of the chants coming from the ‘younger element’ of our ‘support’ was vitriolic and at times embarrassing! EEL got dog’s abuse again all game and I feel that he showed great restraint in not reacting. Also not sure whether I misheard but before I put it out there can anyone else confirm if there was a chant aimed at ROD midway through the second half and if so what was the reason? It was symptomatic of our season that Rochdale’s last act before the curtain fell on our membership of the Football League was to commit a foul throw immediately before the final whistle! Basics! At the final whistle the players initially hung around at the side of the pitch furthest away from the Dale fans. Presumably they were unsure whether to come across to us because of the possibility of ugly scenes? When they did wander over there was a sheepish acknowledgement and most of the fans responded similarly! The exception being the yoof who continued to hurl their abuse at the players! You’ll be delighted to know that I have finally caught up with all the posts in this thread and have read nothing to change my opinion. I stand by every word, bias and soundbite in my previous post. You keep stating that “the football was some of the best we’ve played” It really wasn’t - it was turgid and sterile. Also, having now read the entire thread thus entitling myself to express an opinion, I didn’t see too many comments that agreed with you regarding the quality of the football. As you seem to be so keen to extol the advantages of possession based football here’s a stat from a few years ago (apologies for repeating this as I had already recently posted it another thread) that I believe is a perfect example of why possession stats are meaningless: Peterborough 6 (35% possession) Rochdale 0 (65% possession) … Now I wonder who the Dale manager was for that game? 🤔 |

I’ve only just come back on here after watching Leeds’ 2nd defensive masterclass in just over a week and see that there has been a flurry of activity on this thread! Not had time to read all the posts yet but felt the need to immediately respond directly to this one before moving on! So apologies if someone has already beaten me to it! In response to one of this guy’s earlier posts Talking Sutty claimed it was one of the most ridiculous things ever posted on here! I found myself in complete agreement with TS until I then came across this gem: “We played some of the best football I’ve seen under BBM, the playing squad that got relegated was significantly weaker than most in that division” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I think it has been stated, acknowledged and widely accepted on here that that squad had plenty enough talent to have survived in L1 rather than being relegated if only the manager had actually had the common sense to look at the league table occasionally! With hilarious jokes, deadpan delivery and timing like that irishdale2022 should be on BGT! I can only conclude that you must be either a) A WUM or b) BBM c) Jim McNulty trying to defend/trust ‘The Process’ |

Insanity = doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results! Can somebody at the club please take this on board and stop the players being asked to do things that they obviously aren’t capable of! Insanity Example No.1: The constant sideways Chuckle Brothers-esque (To me - to you) passing around at the back is tedious to watch and does not lead to us creating anything! Instead we inevitably lose possession in our own half and present an opportunity to the opposition! Even the best teams and players get caught out when doing this - Bayern Munich kept doing it against Man City the other night - so what hope is there for players at our level? Insanity Example No.2: The insistence on having everybody back to defend corners and free kicks! I could grudgingly accept the tactic if it meant we were great at defending set pieces and rarely conceded from them but it clearly is not working!!! The number of goals we concede from these situations is staggering so why not try something different now and again and leave somebody on the half way line to provide an attacking outlet? Surely we can’t be any worse defensively than we already are with everybody back! Insanity Example No.3: When we win a free kick in the opposition half we very rarely use it as an opportunity to get the ball into the box. Instead we invariably play it short (sideways and backwards) and start another cycle of lovely passing in our own half and ultimately getting nowhere! It might be great for improving the possession percentage stats (55% in our favour yesterday!) but it is dull and boring to watch, Look at Bradford yesterday when they got a free kick - no messing, straight into the penalty area and 2 goals as a result! I know they had a team of giants which helps with this tactic but let’s at least try and attack when we get a free kick rather than playing pretty football in the midfield and defensive thirds! I know we have been spoilt with the football we enjoyed for 10 to 15 years under Keith Hill but the last few years have been (particularly at home) mostly mind-numbingly woeful. The subject of our poor crowds is regularly discussed on here but the biggest mystery is how we still manage to attract as many as 2,000 masochists to keep coming back! I guess that is true insanity!!! |
