| Forum Reply | Big Big Game For Russell Martin At Bournemouth at 14:51 27 Sep 2024
Potter has given interview today to Telegraph stating he is ready to return. Extract from interview: “I’ve felt ready to return for a little while. It still has to be the right thing, but I’m excited for it. I’m excited to hear what the opportunities are and I’ll take each one and judge it on its merits". [Post edited 27 Sep 14:51]

Responsible for recruitment since 2021. Not exactly a glowing report for recruitment for Saints in that period. I don't know much about the guy but good riddance based on some the crap we have bought in last 3 years if he has blagged his way into Arsenal based on this CV. |

wow, you sound like a very angry man. Perhaps having a rest for a month or 2 might do you good, and accept there are other views which have some merit and not everyone needs their head checked. [Post edited 24 Sep 7:56]

Totally agree. Add to this Interest rate increases, that most developed countries experienced, and where people thought the land of easy money would last for ever. Those of a certain age on here will remember rates of 15% in the 80's. More importantly, are we close to doing booze cruises again to France for cheap Stella stubbies ? [Post edited 20 Sep 13:42]

The DWP assessment to determine whether people are fit to work, needs to be tightened up. Too many people have found ways to navigate their way through the system and some Doctors are signing people off too easy (sometimes probably without even seeing them). I sympathise with those that have fallen on hard times and lost jobs etc, and they deserve all the help they can get to get them back to work. However, those that believe the benefits system is an alternative to work, need to be called out or forced to do voluntary work. [Post edited 19 Sep 17:26]

So according to Martin, Archer had been practicing penalties over last 2 weeks. Not exactly a compelling endorsement, given that McCarthy was probably in goal whilst he practiced. |
| Forum Reply | That penalty at 08:29 15 Sep 2024
Whilst Martin agreed it was a mistake for Archer to take the penalty, it would be good to hear the logical reasoning why he was even considered Archer, knowing we had better (and proven) penalty takers in the team. It does make people question his decision making again. |

Taking out Jack Stephens inept performance and the crap penalty, there were a lot more positives than the previous games. We moved the ball quicker and didn't mess around with the tippy tippy stuff at back and in penalty box. I agree we still lack that target player up front but It was good to see Stewart come on. Dibbling looks exciting and hopefully keeps his place next week. [Post edited 14 Sep 17:33]

It would have been 7 had Ramsdale not been on form. |

Just seen 1st goal again. Stephens was with the fairies, all over the place, playing them onside. perhaps this is the turning point and Stephens gets dropped. |
| Forum Reply | Mn Utd Game Matchday Thread at 13:25 14 Sep 2024
Agree, he didn't look comfortable. I am in the Shearer school of penalties, just whack it. If you can't do that, try and avoid placing it 1m from the keeper ! Awful penalty and game changer. All said, there are lots of positives. We are not messing around with it in our own box inviting trouble. Ramsdale has played really well, with 3 top saves. Finally, why am I seeing Man U shirts in Saints stands, but couldn't get a ticket for this game ? This really needs sorting. [Post edited 14 Sep 13:29]

Nice one Stephens, marked no-one and played them all on side. After a really positive start. [Post edited 14 Sep 13:08]

Chris Kavanagh and Lee Betts in charge of VAR today. My money says we will be talking about a VAR incident long after the game today. |

Is Smallbone injured ? Not even on bench, not that I am complaining. He has dropped 3 of the regulars, but still found a slot for his favourite, Jack Stephens. |
| Forum Reply | Russell Martin Has Plenty Of Options For Manchester United Game But Will He Use at 11:40 10 Sep 2024
Martin definitely has options for this game. He is probably mulling over where Stephens will play. He has the option of playing him at Centre back, right back, left back, any of the midfield positions or a holding role. `Whatever, he will no doubt get a game, and the new signings that have shown promise will be lucky to get a look in. In Martin's own words, he needs to be brave and play his best team , instead of his favourites. |

I don't think any genuine reader/contributor on this site is enjoying our current situation, or takes any comfort from the recent performances, especially as we have the nucleus of a good side (if we play our best team). I sense that most are just frustrated at the style and performances, and wish Martin would move away from his obsession with stats and possession whilst playing around at the back (me included). Bazza - "Futile' what great adjective to describe our play. "incapable of producing any useful result; pointless" |
