What a surprise! Dont just blame McCarthy - surely it was clear to everyone that we needed a goalkeeper. We are playing 10 men, have 70% possession and we go one down! With a decent keeper this could have been a fortunate but great start to the season. Sadly we didn't get a goaj scorer either so lets just hope it doesn't get any worse. | | | |

Newcastle only had one shot on target and that was a weak one that would have been a routine save for any other Premier League goalkeeper. But, that's all it takes with McCarthy in goal. If they'd had 2 shots on target, it would have been 2-0. I recall there was one game at the end of our last season in the PL, when the opposition had 4 shots on target and scored 4 goals. McCarthy doesn't do saves, whatever way we play. So, you're right: McCarthy should never be asked to be our goalkeeper. [Post edited 17 Aug 18:58]

I’ll tell you all what would be really brave, and that would be for McCarthy to ignore what he’s been instructed to do by RM and do what we all want him to do and that is put his foot through the ball and leather it. He’s terrible and our policy on goalies is ridiculous. Just buy the best keeper in the Swedish, Danish or Norwegian league, cost about 50 p and wages about 8p a week it would be instant upgrade on McCarthy and Bazanu, I don’t understand why the club are so hopeless when it comes to such an important position. |  |
