I'm going to the Ireland-England match with my son tomorrow. It's been quite a while since the two a sides met in a competitive international, and I'd like him to experience the atmosphere. It's on an occasion like this that I'm reminded of a conversation I had with some Bristol City fans in the C&S before our match against them last season. You may recall that was Marti's first home match and fans were still suffering from the trauma of the dying days of the Ainsworth stewardship. The Bristol lads were great craic, but as we got up to leave for the match one of them uttered "may the best team win!". My instinctive reply was "God, I hope not...." |

In a similar vein, I'd align the respect for the referee rules for football to those in rugby. There is no chat back to the ref, nor teams surrounding a ref to intimidate him. Only the captain can speak to the ref. Any deviation from this straightforward rule earns you an automatic yellow card. |

I'm beginning to think that he is a bit like Alex Ferguson. All other clubs should be wary of buying a player from him! |

Surely there are accountants in bloated Premier League clubs desperate to offload players who are surplus to requirements this season? But how many of such players wouldn't have Boswinga-like attitudes, and be more Hayden-like? |

It doesn't just help the people who are diagnosed, but also those around them. Neuro-divergency is real, all our brains are wired differently. Understanding how you think and understand the world is really important to both you and those around you, whether in work or your social life. For example, some people only think in black and white, they can't see the grey in between. Understanding how a person thinks is really important as it influences how you need to interact with them. Similarly, if you are aware of your own condition then, in theory, you possibly can/should identify the triggers and therefore take control over how you react to a situation, overcoming your natural instinct. Whether drugs improve that awareness or not, I don't know. |

It's easy to predict that 3 points will be easily plucked, I don't think this will the the turkey-shoot that several of us are anticipating. I watched the extended highlights of their draw last week, and they can play if given time and space on the ball. Given our lack of depth in centre-mid, with Colback on enforced leave of absence, I wouldn't be surprised if we only drew this. [Post edited 23 Aug 10:28]

Paul, This is one battle where defeat is not an option! As Brian says, we know that you have the mental strength and resolve to carry you through this unwelcome experience. You have a huge support group around you, use it should you need to talk things through and get peace of mind. I'm coming over for the Portsmouth match in October, hopefully we'll catch up in the Crown then. Best wishes. |

I wonder how many investors in football clubs go in with realistic expectations as to how their investment will fare. Most of the time, in order to make a small fortune from a football investment, you start off with a large fortune! It's not like any other business model that they'd be used to, or comfortable with, investing in. |

It's not just City, nearly every coach strives to play like that nowadays. It's the reason why the Euros were such a boring spectacle. Unless teams without the ball are willing to learn and effectively apply a high press, we will have to endure it for a while. Until of course the next fashionable tactic emerges! |

2 x Separate yellow cards in the same match for dissent, after being brought on late in the game as sub= Stupidity. (Also something that can be coached to make sure it doesn't happen again) |

Simon Grayson? I can imagine Peter Risdale going through his phone contacts, pausing briefly at Billy Davies and Dave O'Leary, before scrolling down. |

I'm enjoying this moment in time, where I can look at other teams in the Championship and confidentiality convince myself " we're better than them" or "they'll struggle this season". I don't think we'll compete for a top 6, as we still have no evidence that there are any goals in this team. We need Chair back on the pitch, but I'm unclear as to when this will happen, if at all! Is he being kept in cotton wool for a potential sale now that his Belgian Court issue has been resolved? |
