| News Comment | Graham Potter Ready To Return To Management at 09:13:16
Sports Republic, or more appropriately sports direct, are the issue. May as well keep RM as any change they make will probably sideways at best. We were very fortunate that Markus Lieberr was our owner at a critical time for the club and we're unlikely to have someone like him take over again but surely there has to be someone out there who wishes to invest in a club with our potential and manage it progressively and with a modicum of ambition for on pitch success. San Marco - nail on head etc. sports republic are the biggest issue at the club. They'll walk away when their hedge fund practices stop making them money. By then we'll have a husk of a club which we thankfully avoided when Marcus saved us from administration and sisu COYRs |

Tall Paul isn't,,'the answer' but he offers another option - which our football manager genius badly needs. The possession game would be enjoyable if the results were averaged out and we have a handful of points but as there is rarely end product and several defensive errors per match with around 50% leading to goals against most saints fans understandably get frustrated knowing that a capable team player sensible football wouldn't help the opposition score goals. RM is an unpredictable manager so his way of playing may eventually pay dividends but it's far from uncertain. Whereas playing pragmatic possession football would, on balance, get results. COYRs |
| News Comment | Southampton Agree Transfer Fee For Tall Paul Onuachu at 17:05:44
Even when there's an international break Saints still manage to make a mess of footballing matters 😉. Like others here it's a massive shame that he's leaving as he would have at least been a potential surprise for the opposition and we know that he is a goal scorer. I'm sure RM is working miracles on the training field.... COYRs |
| News Comment | Southampton At Cardiff The Carabao Cup Verdict at 17:37:15
Last night's game reminded me of last season i.e. we've got a decent championship side that makes hard work of what should be routine victories. A cup run would be great and the draw has been kind to us as Everton have only 1 focus this season and it won't be the milk cup Coyrs |
| News Comment | Charlie Austin To Make Debut For AFC Totton On Saturday V Forest Green Rovers at 11:53:43
It's certainly a worthwhile story to cover on an unofficial club website and plenty of saints fans will be interested in this very surprising transfer. I'd expect plenty of saints fans to go along because Austen is playing which means a nice pay day for the club. I know he had mouthed the club but he scored some very important goals for us and his post match rant v Watford provided entertainment too. Keep up the good work Nick |
| News Comment | You Can't Buy A Ferrari With Fiat Money ! Saints Owner Tells Trabzonspor at 16:59:50
Ingratiate Paul Onuachu into the squad rather than trying to sell at a price we're not going to get. We'll need as many options as possible in the premiership as Russ ball isn't going to work with the better defenders and forwards in the top flight. The big man will give us an option and make us less predictable. He didn't really get a chance and came into a club in crisis so clean slate time. |

I think there is plenty of milage left in this fiat/Ferrari analogy. Although Fiat's make nice cars so maybe lada would be a more accurate comparison. |
| News Comment | Southampton V West Bromwich Albion The Play Off 2nd Leg Verdict at 10:52:07
A game of two halves. incredible opener by smallbone which opened up the game and forced WBA to change their game plan. The second half was probably the best saints have played all season from the point of view if directness, purpose and end product. Hopefully RM bares this in mind v Leeds and trusts the players to deliver rather than talk them in inhibition going forward and suicide football at the back. With focus on what the team can collectively achieve being brave and taking risks to score goals rather than over coaching cul-de-sac possession football we'd have had enough to have pushed Ipswich into third. Please for the fans, the team and for RM but I'm not convinced by the board whilst there have interests in other football teams. Leeds at Wembley is going to a nervy game and one we have the ability to win - but the players need to be encouraged to be brave going forward as that is the only way we will win. This is my opinion based on my interpretation of the way we have played all season and where we finished in the table. Feel free to disagree. COYRs |
| News Comment | Southampton At West Bromwich Albion The Play Off Verdict at 14:19:27
RMs plan worked well but a significant part of his plan is banking on the opposition being toothless upfront which WBA were. It's strange how RM is happy with the defence taking countless risks at the back but not taking any risks going forward. WBA really did target their right wing but and but for a routine but crucial stop by McCartney we'd have been chasing the game which in the heat wouldn't have been ideal. We certainly missed Adams up front as Mara doesn't have the same presence really hope he's fit on Friday as I can see him and Stewart making a decent partnership - even if it only lasts ls two games. Friday should be a straight forward win if RM allows the players to be more adventurous and doesn't make odd selections both with the starting 11 and subs. Final thought if RM goes to Brighton or whoever the WBA manager could be a decent replacement. Getting WBA in the play offs was a minor miracle based on yesterdays match in isolation. COYRs |
| News Comment | Southampton At Leeds United The Verdict at 15:27:19
It took the 46th game of the season to get the tactics right and great to see the too often repeated stat of 2/3rds possession but still dropping points. Not getting carried away as arguably having the 'best' squad is not reflected in the final table. Over to RM to prepare the team and make the correct tactical choices to suit the circumstances rather than trying to over think and trying to be 'clever'. Well done to the fans who travelled up to Yorkshire in the early hours. COYRs |

Sports Republic hold entire responsibility for their transfer policy ahead of our last season in the premiership by buying/loaning in a load of youngsters rather than buying fewer but more focused personnel where they were genuinely required (GK, CB x 1 at least a a half decent striker). They stuck with poor Ralph into the new season and then rushed into appointing the Welsh loony. They then panic bought a world class midfielder and massive striker neither of who was given a chance. We were relegated as bottom club in a weak premiership. Then they haggle over £1m compensation for a average manager (based on his stats at his two previous clubs). Rather they again failed to strengthen in the vital areas again, got rid of our better players, including a proven championship striker, and bought an injured striker for 10m, who has played 10 mins of football all season. Sports Republic are a bunch of hedge fund managers making low stake investment in the hope of getting a higher return. A successful football club cannot be run on that basis. While they are the owners we'll keep getting spreadsheet managers but rarely will they be given funds to buy quality players to fulfil the style of football RM plays. RM will always be a championship manager because of his stubbornness. Decent managers will do whatever ever they need to win matches - even if that means dropping a so called philosophy and winning ugly. I wonder where we'd be if alongside the man city loannee we bought in a seasoned CB and kept Tella this team would have done under RMs style of play? |

I meant is something wrong with the way they operate. Markus reinstalled pride in our club - this rabble have hollowed it out and made us an embarrassment |
| News Comment | Southampton At Leicester The Debacle at 08:21:46
This result is a culmination in the lack of investment where it has been required for the last 3 + years. Lack of decent keeper, CBS and an out and out number 9/goal scorer. Sports direct have got ever big calls wrong since they took over from not investing sensibly in the premiership to selling off the majority of talent last summer - including a proven goal scorer who's now got a German league winners medal. While sports direct are in charge we'll remain, like their other clubs, playing lower league football for some time. They're more like hedge fund managers than football club owners. There isn't something odd about their business practices. |
