Clubs line up to snatch Stanton Saturday, 3rd Jul 2010 11:22 by Col Dale's out of contract defender Nathan Stanton is wanted by both Grimsby Town and Burton Albion, and is reportedly making his mind up over offers made to him by the two clubs and by Dale. Stanton's contract at Spotland expired at the end of the promotion season, and whilst he was offered a new contract, it is believed from press reports that he was offered just a one year deal at Spotland. Grimsby were linked with him earlier in the week, with the newly relegated side putting a two year contract on the table for him. Such a move, aside from continuing the Swap Shop between Dale and the Mariners this Summer, could suit Stanton who never moved over this way after joining from Scunthorpe at the start of the 2006-7 season. However, a last minute move by Burton has thrown a spanner in the works, with a similar offer made by the Brewers as they try to obtain the services of the former Dale captain. Burton boss Paul Peschisolido admitted to the press this week that he was interested in Stanton, and that he had shown Stanton around the Pirelli Stadium earlier this week before making him an offer: "Rochdale have offered Nathan a contract but, from my understanding, they may go for a different type of player.” As far as we are aware, the club's offer to Stanton still stands, and at time of writing, it's up to Stanton as to where he wants to play football next season.
