| Forum Thread | F A Cup draw to be restaged after Man Utd fail to get home draw. at 19:35 2 Dec 2024
After the B B C’s utterly cringe worthy 15 minute love in with all things Manchester Utd this evening, officials of the club have complained that a mistake was made and the B B C have decided to rerun the whole programme tomorrow. |

Yes, and if the “ goal” were to have been scored by any of the top six teams and disallowed, footballing has beens such as Townsend and McCoist would have said the decision was wrong. Put simply, it would not be in their interest to say otherwise. [Post edited 2 Dec 10:44]

For reasons best known only to yourself you are completely missing the point. What the majority of those with an opinion are attempting to get across to you is that had our “ goal” been scored by one of the big six teams it would undoubtedly have stood. There probably wouldn’t have been a referral to V A R and even if there had been those in charge of the system would have quickly formed the option that the goal was a good one. Most certainly they wouldn’t have wasted four and a half minutes looking for reasons to chalk it off. |

I would, your opinion of J W P is now, and for that matter ever was, frankly ridiculous. That said it’s hard to argue that his career hasn’t taken a drastic downturn since he left. I imagine that he consoles himself by checking his bank balance however, where no doubt he finds that his annual income probably far exceeds your lifetime earnings. |

Every sympathy with you Heisenberg. I’m done with The Premiership and V A R in particular. Were it not that I’m a season ticket holder and have paid up front, I wouldn’t attend another game this season. Next season The Championship now looks nailed on for us.As long as V A R remains the property of The Premiership alone then next August can’t come quick enough for me. |
| Forum Reply | Corruption. at 11:32 30 Nov 2024
There has always been corruption in football mush. I’m old enough to remember “Bronco” Layne who actually did a stretch for his part in throwing a game back in the sixties. Not forgetting more recently, considerable doubts concerning keepers by the name of Bruce and another by the name of Hanns. The former having more than the odd game, where shall we say things went well for the opposition. The latter successfully managing to put in an abject performance against relegation threatened Everton on the last day of a season a few years back. Even our own Le God admitting that it was financially beneficial for some if he was able to kick the ball straight into touch from the kick off. The question now is has such similar behaviour spilled over into the refereeing fraternity ? Given that world wide there have been proven cases of refereeing impropriety I find it very hard to imagine that The Premiership is currently immune. Particularly given the vast amount of money swirling around there in. Surely the way forward would be for there to be put in place an independent investigation authority given access to all aspects of the management of The Premiership clubs and those who officiate their games. Not too much for us long suffering supporters to ask is it, particularly given that horse racing has had something very similar for years ? [Post edited 30 Nov 11:36]

Four and a half minutes to rule out a goal when there was no contact with Armstrong and the ball, which in any event was behind him. Thanks for your contribution kentsouthampton, we now all know who is an idiot and its definitely not Armstrong. |

Four and a half minutes to rule a goal out. I can’t wait to be relegated back to The Championship simply to avoid this utter and complete nonsense which Premiership wide has simply spoilt fans enjoyment of what was once a beautiful game. |

12.30 kick offs on a Saturday not ideal I agree but a lot better than tonight’s at 20.00 and our upcoming home game against Spurs,19.00 on a Sunday evening for pity sake. [Post edited 29 Nov 10:04]

Very much hope your hunch is correct Nick. Any type of Saints win is 13/2 with Betfred so well worth a flutter. |

Spot on wizzler, I said exactly the same thing on Nick’s preview of this evening’s game. All the evidence points to Sports Republic being happy with a second Premiership rock bottom finish in just three seasons. I’m afraid that currently all we can do is to comfort ourselves with looking forward to The Championship next season. Cheaper tickets, more games, largely more sensible K O times and no sodding V A R. Who knows, perhaps also the odd occasional win ? At the end of the day there has been a Southampton Football Club since 1885 so our current difficulties will soon be forgotten as we march on. |

Perhaps with hindsight I should have said mostly more sensible kick off times. Half full grounds ? I don’t recall St Mary’s being half full on any occasion last season. |

Agree with everything you say here Nick. The sooner the top clubs income wise ( Man City, Man Utd , Arsenal etc etc ) get their wish and bugger off to a European Super League the better as far as I’m concerned. I haven’t enjoyed any part of our return to The Premiership. It’s now simply a league dominated by money with the top few teams effectively just large businesses with football teams attached. I’m already looking forward to next season in The Championship. Cheaper seats, more games, sensible K O times ( our upcoming game against Spurs starts at 19.00 on a Sunday for pity sake ) and none of the utterly pathetic V A R where biased non entities not even at the grounds decide match outcomes. saint22, you are not wrong and yes they are persisting. Persisting all the way back to The Championship along most probably with Ipswich and Leicester as company. Sports Republic relegated us the season before last so why is it even a surprise that they have done it again ? |

If you took S F C to court you would lose and end up paying their costs into the bargain. What we as season ticket holders have purchased is the right to access the stadium on 19 occasions during the season to watch football.Nothing more and nothing less I’m afraid. Legally S F C have no obligation to provide any particular standard of football whatsoever, as has been adequately proven by their efforts so far this season. If you don’t want to attend your only route to recovery of your outlay is to put your ticket on the exchange and hope that someone is daft enough to purchase it. Even then I believe I I’m correct in suggesting that any sums accrued can only be spent on next season’s tickets or in the club shop. |
