If my old memory is correct, he was manager for one game while they found a replacement for Gordon Jago. Think we beat Ipswich 1-0. he was then sacked when Sexton was appointed a few days later. I believe this was also the game when Henry Mancini was dragged over the coals by the FA for celebrating the win by mooning at the directors box. |

Found this on a Cypriot site. I have no idea if its accurate. According to a number of reports, Roman Abramovich has already been granted Israeli citizenship. On the basis of his Jewish heritage and, presumably, his existing substantial investment/property ownership in Israel reportedly having also bought an hotel there which he was/is converting to a residence. An Israeli passport will give him visa-free travel to the UK for 'limited periods of stay on each entry'. So he can now continue to visit his football club whenever he wishes. I can only view it as yet another 'nationalisation of convenience' move - so common these days. As a Russian Jew, he never seems to have sought Israeli nationality at any other stage in his life. |

My understanding is while we agreed to be bound by the arbitration, this only applied to the judgement not the punishment which if any would decided by the football league. If my memory is correct we agreed to arbitration provided the punishment did not involve a points deduction. On reflection maybe not the best move. |

About fifteen years ago I listened to an interview with an Italian manager who said one day we will be giving tickets away so there will be people in the ground for TV. May not be too far away. |

Can only remember a couple of full names, Charlie Holm who was an electrician and Mike Chapman who was an accountant. Can remember a few first names chap called Tony who worked for the Hawera Star was there for a season, and Charlie had a brother I think was called Bob. Football had just started to really catch on at the time and a number of the players were from England a number who were there only a short time as they moved round looking for somewhere to settle, but then some very promising young players were coming from the local school by the time I left. |

While I agree with the main point you are making, the stick handed out to some players is far from recent. Going back one can think of Alan Wilks and Mick Leach or not so long ago the first part of Paul Furlongs time with us. One of my first memories when my father first started taking me to Loftus Road with him in the 50s was asking why a new player was being booed and sworn at. He told me because he was slow, couldn't tackle and his passing was poor. It was Brian Bedford. |
