| News Comment | Chekhov's winter - Awaydays at 15:25:51
Sorry to hear your school days were so tough, Northern, it sounds grim. Thanks, as ever, for the write-up. It was painful enough reading it, composing it must have been ghastly. We are in such a state! My greatest fear is that what looks like a dog rough season doesn't end up setting fan against fan. I think it's important to remember that the pro-Gareth / anti-Gareth dynamic is not binary in that I doubt there is anyone who is supportive of him (e.g. me) who thinks everything is fine. I certainly don't. Conversely, I'm sure most if not all of those who want him out believe he is bringing at least a few positives. Brace yourselves, it is going to get ugly, sigh... |
| News Comment | Last second heartbreak for vastly improved QPR - Report at 14:04:32
"Having brought a gun to a toothpick fight and somehow gone behind..." Lovely stuff! :) Thanks for a match report which is every bit as good as the team's performance. I am so pleased that those who ignored the form guide, gritted their teeth and attended in person got to experience a fantastic effort from the Rs. |
| News Comment | Alarm bells ringing after another Barnsley humbling - Report at 13:42:17
Man, those - cough - "highlights" - were a tough watch. So ironic that for the first goal, Dieng was haring out to narrow the angle but Dickie still chose to drag his man down. The second goal looked pretty unlucky but I think our ship had sailed by then. I shall spend the next couple of days trying to "unsee" those harrowing images, sob. Thanks as ever for the report, Northern, without your insight and acerbic wit, following Rangers would be not far short of self-harm. |
| News Comment | Lambert facing uphill battle to save Ipswich - Interview at 14:02:34
A very interesting and insightful piece, thank you! Respect to Harry the interviewee for this : "Your financially limited squad, with only youth prospects to call on as reinforcements, did the impossible and won at Forest in this of all seasons. From a neutral fan’s perspective, I hope you really enjoyed a memorable day". Don't worry, we certainly enjoyed it! RFA |
| News Comment | QPR suffer more late heartbreak at Blackburn — Report at 13:52:28
Thanks for the report. Try watching the video of the penalty at 0.25 speed (like I just did). I may be missing something but after watching it at least four times, it appears as if they both lean into each other, bounce off each other, then, fractions of a second later, the Blackburn player starts to fall and tries - unsuccessfully - to hook his foot round our man and manufacture a penalty. I really couldn't see a foul in there, not that it matters now. |
| News Comment | QPR take FFP medicine, so when will things get better? Column at 12:58:53
Great article summarising and clarifying a long and complicated saga, thank you Clive. "Is FFP designed to make the competitions fairer? Well, clearly, no it’s not". This is so true. FFP is fatally flawed as of today because it is based on revenues and that cannot be fair. Clubs like Bournemouth are at an instant disadvantage compared with Man U because they get one quarter of the number of fans through the turnstiles, and that's just for starters. If they are to compete on a level playing field, metaphorically speaking LOL, those smaller clubs are reliant on things like tier 2 or new coaches coming in and doing an amazing job or developing fabulous players in-house or unearthing them in the lower or unfashionable leagues. The system needs to be based on a salary cap. RFA |
| News Comment | QPR attack misfires in Ipswich stalemate - Report at 14:24:01
I'd bring Eze back and give him a go. I think it's risky to assume we will stay up without a struggle so why not get him back so at least he is an additional option up front? RFA |
| News Comment | Standard Green calamity gives QPR best possible start — Report at 13:35:31
A good read as ever, thank you, but too hard on Green. I'm glad we've moved him on because his form was rank last season and Smithies is a distinct improvement but don't forget his pivotal role in the play-off final and the clean sheets record. I think we owe him a bit of respect for those reasons. RFA |
| News Comment | Another long night by the river — autopsy at 13:40:04
Great report, Clive, especially the opening section on how we never shine in derbies. You could tweet that to Uncle Tony. What's wrong with us? Some thoughts: - Angella didn't do anything for their first goal. Could his recent head injury have put him off vying for the header? - Why not get a wily old head, someone skilled in the ugly side of the game (closing games out, marking, pressing, wasting time subtly when you're ahead) to help Ramsey? What about Olly? - Would the reaction to the defeat have been less visceral if it hadn't been against a local rival? - Barton was not worth keeping and would probably have got sent off in that game. Remember, his sendings off traditionally cost us one win per season. - I don't think enough credit has been given to Fulham. They were superb. This might also be our one thrashing of the season. It might be coincidence that it happened to come against a local rival, yet again. A horrible night for all Rs fans but the players should, I think, take more of the flak than Ramsey. They just forgot how to play football. They weren't doing the basics. The closing down and pressing was pathetic. They know how to do that stuff, they have all been professionals long enough and been told often enough, by umpteen different coaches, what they should be doing. RFA |
| News Comment | Fitz Hall’s hamstrings and Paul Furlong’s last minute winner - history at 08:52:31
Our 1-0 win in 2004 is still one of my most memorable games. They battered us but Furs (and McLeod) stole the show with a stunning breakaway (not unlike the Traore/Mackie goal in the last game of last season). It should really have been 5-1 to Wigan in that 2004 game, to be honest. You Rs RFA |
