My goodness England do almost everything so slowly. They largely may make the right decision but most of the time they are so labored that teams get time to reset and then backwards we go. Been watching the Colombia vs Argentina game and what a difference in pace and decision making. I thought the game would be slow given the weather is 30c with 80% humidity but it has a great energy to it. Half time so have switched to Ecuador vs Peru and they too are exhibiting way more pace and energy than England even playing at 9300ft elevation. |

When my father beat me with regularity from ages 5-15 and adults that I appealed to for help did nothing. Eventually helped myself by running away and sleeping on the roof of a block of flats for a month. Haven’t see him since and that was 1983. |

Poor Gordon being brought on with 1 minute left what an insult after he has had to watch 269 minutes of absolute crap along with the rest of us. |

Dulwich Hamlet……Our school (Willam Penn) playing fields (Greendale) backed onto their stadium and a few of us would also climb into their ground and play games some Sundays. |

Was there as well with my mate who was Tottenham. We stood on the Shelf and the atmosphere was mint. He later started going to R’s games with me including trips to Bury, Villa and Southampton. |

When I first began supporting the R’s as a 6 year old after attending my first match (grandad took me as his team Spurs team and Millwall, our local team, were playing away) and for 2-3 years afterwards my footballing affection was shared between QPR and Ipswich. It seemed to disappear after attending my first game alone at home to Everton as a 9 year-old 1-1 draw Gillard 53rd minute equalizer after Bob Latchford scored. Been QPR ever since. Another one is I got the match ball after our 1-0 League Cup defeat at Bury and together with a Chelsea mate who went to the game with me and a London based Forest fan we met at Manchester Piccadilly we got on a train to get out of Manchester before the 12:45am mail train to Euston as lots of Citeh fans were looking for agg. We get a train that takes us to Crewe knowing said mail train will arrive later and climb into Gresty Road have a kickabout on their pitch and nick a load of food and drink from a stadium snack bar for the trip home. |

What’s worse is they always get it. Of course at the expense of people who actually need it. |

I still play from time-to-time but being an anorak have it increased it to a four-division game. |

Malta vs Bulgária in a 0-0 friendly on Boxing Day 1982 at the TáQali stadium. I was 13 at the time and made it to and from the game on my own across the island from Mellieha on the 1950s green buses. The previous week I had listened to Wolves vs QPR on BBC World Service as we lost a 2nd division top of the table clash 4-0. Beat them 2-1 at home the end of the season as we coasted to the title by 10 points. |
| Forum Reply | Watching a game in Europe at 12:24 18 Jan 2023
I am in Porto at the moment and went to the game this past Sunday against Famalicao. Not a big game but still 33k in a really nice stadium and a very good atmosphere on a wet and windy Sunday night (8:30pm kickoff). €24 for a ticket near the half way line a few rows above above the visitors bench. The city and the people are great with fantastic eateries and architecture all over the city. Next Monday going to see Boavista play Chaves and not expecting a big crowd as they have only had 10k for three games this year and average 7,800 compared to 44,368 for Porto. Going to Lisbon next week and will take in the Sporting vs Braga game. What I also like though I can barely understand them is that there are 3-4 daily sports papers, last weekend was the Lisboa Derbi and the after game coverage was superb. While there are better footballing sojourns to be had in Europe Portugal is definitely worth a visit especially if the big three are in opposition or a European game is happening. Wish I was going to be here for Porto vs Inter next month but sadly I will be back in Oregon. |

Thank goodness I was watching the cyclocross at the same time. So much of football is like this match dull and paralysed by teams frightened to take any risks to win matches. Seeing teams with possession just outside the opponents penalty area passing back into their own half and sometimes all the way back to their keeper is mind numbingly dull. I would much rather watch a team lose trying to win than commit 90+ minutes to being bored to death by such inertia. Chapeau to those poor sods that made the trip to Cardiff and paid for the tripe that was dished up. I hope your journey home is swift and trouble free. |
