So it's a third semi-final under Southgate, against the Dutch

I thought we were marginally better today with the 3 CBs (brought about by Guehi's suspension) allowing greater flexibility but there must be a lot of tired (and injured) bodies after two lots of extra time

We've mainly got though via the odd moment of individual brilliance without looking particularly cohesive let alone fluent, but the FGs must've decided to smile on us for a change. No questioning the team spirit in a "circling the wagons" kind of way

Your geology is spot on

Did you know that our trade with the rest of the world was conditional upon tariffs imposed by the EU whilst we were members. To claim we were 'happy' with those tariffs is to mistake acquiescence with protectionism for welcoming them

The most typical example of said protectionism is, of course, the Irish border. Even the EU admitted the measures were punitive and have since been amended - that leaves scope for further amendments if we had a government with the balls to do so

All Remoaners all still failing to respond to the fundamental question of why EU populations are increasingly turning rightwards in their voting patterns. They can see the disadvantages of membership just as we did, but having joined the Euro are powerless to escape the clutches of its unelected bureaucrats (Von Der Leyen et al.) If you were happy to be overseen by unelected elites, good for you

It wasn't my metric. The UK economy has structural problems stretching way back, most notably lack of productivity. I asked for the UK's economic performance to be viewed compared with the rest of the EU, not just in isolated terms

Why do you think EU populations are starting to vote increasingly towards right-wing parties? It's not because their countries are rip-roaring successes - precisely the opposite. The dangers resulting from the EU's myopically intransigent and sclerotic worldview are starting to come into focus, and it's not pretty

Oh, and by the way...

I hear your point about 'red tape'

It is, of course, completely unnecessary for such red tape to exist - imposed by the EU cartel. It's in all our interests those barriers to free trade should be reduced, which they will. Any political organisation which adopts punitive measures against those outside it (or even worse, leaves it) is inherently setting itself up to fail in the far more globalised world than existed when the EU was formed

Its own populations are now starting to rebel against it.We can be - should be - proud to have left the EU and rejoined the rest of the world. Initial issues (i.e. red tape) will be overcome. It's not just about the short-term. The problem politicians have is trying to pretend they have answers to win the latest round of the electoral cycle, when the world is far more complex than short-term measures can possibly cope with

There is no metric by which Brexit can be considered a "disaster". All over the EU, populations are experiencing the very same problems but the mainstream media (who hated the idea of a democratic vote to upset their applecart) have done nothing but bombard us with their own take on it, which appears to have convinced some

However, if that's your considered opinion, i respect it as part of a friendly debate (c. Shun). Those calling people "morons" won't go unchallenged

"Clueless morons"

That's on a par with Hilary Clinton's "deplorables" quote which lost her the 2016 election against... youknowwho

Takes some doing, throwing the Presidency away with a jibe

Seeking to throw the democratic referendum decision of the UK away by the establishment worked well, didn't it. Keep going, and keep digging; or look at the hole and stop trying to imitate one

I don't rely on luck, never have done

We can now get rid of whoever's in government if we don't like the way they go about things. Prior to that, we - and our politicians - were dictated to by a bunch of elitist bureaucrats in the EU and paying them for the privilege of doing so

If that's what you'd prefer we were still doing, good luck with your sanity

I'd sleep there overnight too, if allowed. Alas, i just have to sleep there during the day instead

Tbf, our Scottish players have usually been decent

It's already a feature of politics in mainland Europe, largely due to whole swathes of the population having nowhere else to turn to change policies such as Net Zero (bankrupting us while China/Russia/India couldn't care less about burning fossil fuels) and uncontrolled immigration (nowt wrong with a proper system of accepting genuine asylum seekers or skilled people wishing to integrate)

No surprise if the same happens in the UK. Your point about "Tories in red ties" is well made, to which i'd add there's no real choice for a great number of people, which then fosters discontent

I'll be voting for Waugh, as the best person to represent our town when Starmer gets his huge majority by default, with possibly fewer votes nationally than Corbyn got in 2019

Jimmy Anderson, returning for Lancs as prep for his final test appearance has just taken the first six Notts wickets at Southport

Might also be his last appearance for Lancs

Conversation among the lads returning from the break will naturally include England performances

Perhaps the very close parallels being drawn between England and Dale won't feature in their chat...

Process went out the window; we ended the first 90+ minutes with 7 forwards on the pitch

Southgate has got to look at the fresh legs/talent available

I thought Toney did well when he came on, caused problems

After all that, the last-gasp equaliser can galvanise a squad, where the manager has failed to do

Well done Slovakia, simple, direct, effective. Could have been more

3 bookings for us in the first 20 minutes due to arsing about and putting team-mates under pressure

Static, beyond boring and self-defeating, and that will apply even if we come back from this hole

There's one or two players over the past few seasons who'd have been more appropriately dressed in Rianne's outfit, James

Tbf, the bowling (Bumrah in particular) and fielding in those death overs was fantastic - the SKY catch from over the boundary rope when a six would've almost settled it too

Great final
