Yes, I'm sure I read the other day that Brady the Cobblers manager had said he had a very competitive budget this season. So he was probably able to make McGeehan an attractive offer. |

How others view you. Interesting comment on Gillingham's Blues Rock Cafe message-board. " Ex-Charlton Jack Payne has joined Col. U.. They are making some serious signings". Well things are looking a little brighter surely. |

It's disappointing about Smith particularly if he was near the top of the list of the Cowleys' targets. From the Lincoln end Smith did not fail a medical. |

There's clearly a massive cloud of depression over Essex right now. Obviously It is concerning losing your few good players so soon and there must be doubts over Goodliffe's injury record. But I expect a raft of new signings in the next five or six weeks and then we'll have a better idea of how high or low expectations realistically can be. Despite the second half of last season I still believe Colchester United have one of, if not, the best management teams in League Two. I have to disagree with some of the views in preceding posts. Lincoln City was not Moneybags Lincoln City when the Cowleys arrived. It was the club's sixth season in The National League and they'd finished in the bottom half in every one of the previous five. To lead The Imps to the title was a fine achievement and because of the superb FA Cup run the brothers oversaw substantial funds were earned for future spending. They took Lincoln into the play-offs in their first season back in the league and to League Two Champions in the second. These successes should not be belittled. Colchester United are extremely fortunate that the Cowleys agreed to become their management team. They had much more attractive offers out there. They turned down what is easily the biggest team in your division only weeks before joining The U's. But you had an ace in the hole; they are Essex men. They have only one perceived failure in their past and even then it was leaving Pompey tenth in League One. I can understand where much of the pessimism is coming from. It's a decade and a half since Colchester supporters had much to cheer and you escaped by the skin of your teeth in April. But I will be astonished if 2024-25 isn't a dramatic improvement on recent years with Danny and Nicky at the helm. Up The U's! |

Does OM stand for the Official Message-board? Is it still active? I've just tried to register and it keeps asking for my email address which I've entered into the appropriate places. |

I'd be delighted if Cifuentes joined us but it is surely not going to happen. Getting a Spaniard to move from London to Wearside would need a lot of persuasion and a lot of money. I'm afraid our owners would be incapable of the former and unwilling to splash the latter. There are points in our favour such as 40,000 average crowds but we'd need to offer a lot more than that to poach Marti. I hope you don't lose him to Burnley. Let The Turfites be unwise enough to go for Scotty Parker. |

I don't think anyone can argue other than the results since the Cowleys arrived have been very disappointing. I expected Colchester United to be well clear of the lower depths by now and I've paid a heavy price for that expectation. However, unlike you, I still have great faith in the brothers. I expect The U's to survive this weekend and come Christmas to be in a promotion race. One thing I'm always wary of is a manager's shelf-life. With the exception of Alex Ferguson I can't think of any manager who didn't eventually lose his touch, unless he got out early enough. Perhaps the Cowleys who were so successful at Braintree and Lincoln are not quite as able now; but I don't think so. I believe the appointment of the Cowleys is the best since Parkinson and in time that will become clear. For now, Up The U's and success against Crewe. |

I share your optimistic view. From the moment the Cowleys were announced I've been confident Colchester United would avoid relegation this season. If the brothers are given a competitive budget in the summer I'd expect a promotion challenge next season. |

I've just read a few pages of the match thread on Yellowboard, the main Stockport County message-board. Quite a number of complimentary comments about Colchester's performance, for example "Quick word on Col U, travesty if they go down, nowhere near as bad as FGR, Sutton or Grimsby"; "How on Earth are they threatened with relegation?" and "They (Colchester) are a horrible, bruising comfortable mid-table side. Cowleys can clearly coach. Can we have Fevrier?" [Post edited 10 Apr 9:07]

I believe and hope you are correct. If any player reacts negatively to DC's post-match comments it will say a lot about them and, whichever division The U's are in next season ( I'm confident it will be League Two) such a player is unlikely to be still at Colchester. [Post edited 7 Apr 13:05]

I'm looking forward to seeing Colchester United play. I think I've seen you play once before, other than brief highlights on The EFL Show. 18th November, 2006 we won 3-1; you beat us by the same score later that season. I had a season-ticket so, though I've no recollection of the match, I'd presume I was at The SOL on that autumn day. Ha'way The U's! |

A superb result for The Mariners. Three weeks ago David Artell was receiving terrible vitriolic abuse with few defending him. It shows the folly of judging too soon and how quickly things can change. |
