There are questions certainly, but at least we do not have throngs of protesters on British streets chanting “Am Yisrael Chai”. Personally, I do not accept the argument for full equivalence, which some are hinting at. [Post edited 29 Sep 7:59]

Interesting that the sentences have been more impactful of late. There were a whole series of cases involving Extinction Rebellion and Just Stop Oil where defendants got off scot free when they had clearly caused damage and disruption. I still remember the young women who was filmed attacking an HSBC plate glass window with a hammer and cold chisel, and denied doing anything wrong. The jury let them off.

Obviously it is a personal decision if people prefer not to watch documentaries that record horrific events. Personally, I always think examining additional data almost always aids understanding, no matter how uncomfortable it may be to view those data. |

I have been to a small cafe that serves some food in that same line of buildings, and they had a garden with picnic tables and a good view of Rhossili Bay. I guess the hotel might have something similar, but I have never heard anybody comment on the food there. |

Going back to local restaurants, I was thinking of Whiterockin's point that a nice view can be a plus. I don't rate the food in the Grape and Olive (although it is supposed to be getting a revamp) and was wondering what the main contenders for good view might be. Of the restaurants I know, the Langland Brasserie can be very appealing on a summer evening, and then there are Verdi's and Castellamare/Lighthouse in Mumbles, which however don't have menus that appeal greatly to me. I haven't been to the Beach House in Oxwich (Michelin star and prices to match), but imagine that may have a view. Any nominations? |

In a way the similarity of these victims to people we know - or even ourselves when young - made this documentary all the more poignant. The young people were there having a good time, many under the influence of alcohol and drugs, and suddenly men from a completely different world arrived and punctured that bubble of peace and love. The ones I could not identify with were the Hamas gunmen chivvying each other up as they departed Gaza on motorcycles, and smiling as they killed. Many of the Go-pro style video clips came from them. The film brought to mind the comments Mel Stride and Angela Raynor made recently about there being nothing to take offence over when pro-Palestine protesters shout Allaha Akbar. Anybody seeing this documentary will feel a shiver down their spine if they hear those words said in anger - they were repeated so many times in this killing spree. |

I was criticised at the time for saying that we should not go overboard in what we expected from Vipotnik until we had seen him performing in the Championship. He was coming from a league roughly on a par with EFL 1, and I think some expected too much on the basis that he had international caps. |

The point seems to be that Labour has now realised that the predicted £3 billion gain won't materialise, given the likely impact of the inheritance tax changes for non-doms by encouraging wealth to leave the UK, so that the policy will be diluted. Thus no £3 billion gain. The inheritance tax rule plan was a Labour idea , and was not in the Tory non-dom proposals.
This coincides with Rachel Reeves hinting at a change to the fiscal rules (by shifting to a public sector net worth test). Effectively she will increase the limit on the national credit card by £50 billion p.a. by offsetting public assets like anticipated student loan repayments against national debt. This new money would be used only for investment- related spending, and advocates of the policy see it as a way of achieving the economic growth that Labour has emphasised. Sceptics say that our national debt is already at 100% of GDP, the level at which many say the interest payment starts to damage the economy. Borrowing the extra £50 billion p.a. would push up the interest payments into dangerous territory above 100% of GDP.
It is worth mentioning that during the election campaign Labour stated that it had no plans to change the fiscal rules, and also that the manifesto commitments were fully costed. Party spokespersons were pushed very hard on both these things and were firm in saying that their position was clear. I too am now getting "bad vibes". [Post edited 27 Sep 7:53]

I am not a great fan of Musk. The general point I am making is that there is a constant stream of events/stories that explain the results of that focus group mentioned in the "bad vibes" Guardian article. The other developing story is the failure to invite Musk to the UK international investment summit. Jeremy Hunt has stated that Musk had told him he was considering the UK as a possible site for a second European EV plant. The question lurking in the background is whether government wokeness is going to cost the UK.

Strangely enough, I was thinking of mentioning Bouchon de Rossi as my nomination for the worst of the more up-scale restaurants in Swansea. On my only visit, the bill for myself and wife came well into three figures, but the food was mediocre with one course near inedible. Of the others, I think Hanson's at the Chelsea is good (except for the name), and Slice in Eversley Road, Sketty may be right up there if you can handle the prices, the booking backlog and the small portions. My favorites, taking account of the balance between quality and value, are Truffle in King Edward's Road and Gilligans in Sketty. If you like Thai food then Thai Bach in Bryn-y-mor Road is very good. Restaurants that others say are good but I haven't tried are the Pant-y-Gwydr and Barnabys in Eversley Road. |
