I’ve seen Jim Towers, Brian Bedford, Rodney Marsh and a dozen others miss chances from a couple of yards out and they were all recognised goalscorers. Saito is not. He got there late and missed, so what.

It was a bad miss however you dress it up, and Saito has been one of my favourite players this season so not digging him out, but having watched it back it’s one of those “harder to miss than score” chances.

Still more than Yang did the whole game, how he stayed on with Smyth coming off i don't know. We lost Smyths throw as well which with a decent run up was quite impressive.

It's being so happy that keeps me going.

He did exactly the opposite of bottling the header. He flew himself in there. Bottling it is the one thing you can't accuse Saito of.

Yeah he got there late, and at maximum speed, he was never going to have full control or accuracy.

Respectfully disagree. I think he hesitates rather than fully commiting. Fraction of a second earlier he hits that the right side of the ball and it's a goal.

I know it comes across as a knock on him and god knows sticking your head in there at that height is asking for a kick in the face, I'd not have even tried it myself. Thought he was our best player overall today, I just think he'll be thinking tonight "if I hadn't hesitated a touch that would have been a goal"

As I saw it on QPR+ Saito was the quickest player to react to that opportunity, both ours and their defenders, he moved very quickly to get his head to it first but a defender blocked his header. Don't think we got the corner so maybe it wasn't blocked, but Saito did well just to get there. Our go to offensive player and MOM for me again.

watching from the away end I thought the centre half did well and blocked it but might be wrong

He did amazingly well to get there in the first place would class it as an unfortunate miss rather than a bad one

Whilst perhaps Saito could and should have scored, it's not a howler and he certainly didn't "bottle it". He anticipated the cross back in and made a dash towards the 6-yard box. He's flung himself at the ball but unfortunately is unable to make a solid enough contact to divert it into the net. Them are the breaks when you're only 5' 5" (5' 6" with the Beatles mop). Koki's then had another late attempt but unfortunately didn't quite get the connection needed to trouble the keeper. At least the lad was trying to salvage something from the game, one that we played without a recognised striker.

I see and have seen top class players miss 'sitters' over many years. Mostly it doesn't get much of a mention because it's one of usually several, or many chances. Even Don Givens missed quite a few in his time but scored lots due to persistence, skill and quality support.

It was obviously disappointing to see Saito's apparent miss, but I was mostly pleased that one of our players was making strong, brave, intelligent runs to try and get on the end of the very few crosses in to the box.

I haven't re-watched it but at the time, based on the camera angle, it appeared that Lloyd was unmarked and goal-side of Saito. If he'd missed the ball completely Alfie might — and i emphasise "might" — have had a tap in.

Marti did day in his post-match that Smyth has been carrying an injury (groin I think) which was the same as Lloyd, which is why they both did a half each.

No, there was defender in the way who would have cleared the ball. Saito gets in front of the defender with the late run but sadly is unable to get a strong enough connection on the ball with his head.
