The Beatles were a bit crap... 21:18 - Mar 4 with 1735 viewsizlingtonhoop

Everyone has their off moments...

For me, Rubber Soul has two duff'ns.

What Goes On, disjointed drivel.

And the plain nasty Run for Your Life.

Yesterday, annoys me a fair bit too.

Fellow Beatles admirers, which track(s) have you reaching for the skip button, whilst otherwise loving the Fab Four?

"Lady Madonna"

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

Just a thought….the Beatles went fairly quickly from an energetic pop group to relatively complex stuff. How much was down to George Martin, did he arrange as well as produce ?

Sir George did a lot of arranging for The Beatles. A huge influence on the band, channeling and focusing all that energy and creativity. You can hear the bands progression with each album.

As for The Beatles being a bit crap, well they were knocking out two albums a year in those early years, making films, touring, so we can forgive an occasional dodgy track. I always took What Goes On as a vehicle for the Ringo fans as Act Naturally was.

Stories emerged over the years of certain Beatles not liking certain songs. For instance both Paul and John loathed I'm Happy Just To Dance With You and neither wanted to record the vocal for it which is why George ended up doing it.

Any excuse to post them talking about Maxwell's Silver Hammer, the song that broke them up

Yeah I mean I love Abbey Road, but that one is not great; and Octopus's Garden is proper gash.

I'm not saying I wholeheartedly agree, but considering the same year had: White light/White Heat, Lumpy Gravy, Ptooff etc released, I can seen how a case could be made.

I must be the only person on the planet that doesn't like Hey Jude much and it goes on for about 4 business days.

I think Yesterday is a bit overrated as well, it's ok I guess, but nowhere near their best.

I was in a late night bar in Thailand and they had a karoke thing going on all Thai songs. They all sang with such meaning and sincerity then the mike got plonked in my hands

This was a long time ago when things were less sophisticated in getting song choices so much so the only song they could get on their K machine was Hey Jude. I never realised how long it was, how dull and boring it is and felt so sorry for the locals i was with who where subjected to a tone deaf pissed Farrang attempting to sing this dreadful durge.

Fortunatly the people I was with where a famous local Thai rock band so I was accepted in a trange kind of way...but knew what they were thinking

captains fantastic

Pedantry alert! Although the song is credited to the Beatles (and the composition to "Lennon-McCartney"), Yesterday was composed and the original recording played exclusively by Paul McCartney. The rest of the band disliked it. In fact, "Yesterday" is not really a Beatles song.

I think the problem with Yesterday is that we have simply heard it too much over the years, not only The Beatles recording but the endless covers over the years.

Can’t deny it’s a great song but I would be happy to never hear it again.

They split up well over 50 years ago.

Anybody would think there hasnt been any decent music since 1970. There's also just as much dross as there was in the 60s and 70s

Perhaps the various New Music threads of the last 5 years need to be revisited.

Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the Earth all one's lifetime." Come, come. This is the album that contains some of their best work inc Back in The USSR, Dear Prudence, Blackbird, Helter Skelter, While my Guitar gently weeps, Julia, Mother Nature 's Son and Revolution. It's endlessly inventive, and has such a variety of styles unrivalled by any other band I can think of.

Hey Jude irritates me. Especially as Brentford always sing it.

Hey Jude for me too plus Let it be and The Long and Winding Road. All those songs might as well be the same song for me.

Funnily enough, I tend to think Rubber Soul is overrated a bit. So I’d say Run for your Life, Michelle and Girl are a bit naff. Disagree about the white Album though…even the bad stuff is well worth a listen.

"Lady Madonna"

One of my favourites. I saw it done by a brilliant house band in Cafe Hua NYC around the late 80s. They were brilliant.
