Beer prices at Loftus Road. 14:35 - Mar 4 with 2453 viewsknocker

Always amazes me when I see people paying more than £7 for a bottle of 3.4 percent Carlsberg. Even more so now my.wife has told me that Tesco have 18 bottles for £9!!! Bonkers.

Yeah stopped that nonsense years ago ! If I’m missing 5 minutes of the first half then waiting another 10 mins while being pushed and shoved by people trying to get to the toilet , there’s not a chance in the world I’m paying £7 or whatever for a bottle of carlsberg!

I've stopped drinking at the ground this season and now thoroughly enjoy not waiting 20 minutes to get an overpriced crap beer.

I'll only have a beer at LR if someone else is queuing and buying me one

At Wembley last week I paid £7.50 for a pint of Camden Hells and I was thinking that was reasonable...

Know this gets raised every fans forum but surely there is a way of stocking nicer beer? Pulling pints out of the question presumably...

i can see why they do this, at h/t it's basically a 15min business model, however the mark-up is clearly excessive! For the business minded on here, could there be a model whereby you prepay some form of beer tokens bringing the price down? The motivation for them being that you never fully spend your allocation so that they get to keep the difference at the end of the season ?

Because of playing in a wedding band for 20+ years and I could not drink on a Sat afternoon I have never associated going to LR with buying booze.

I brought the old man to the Sheff U game and he insisted buying us a beer before the game - but messed up his pin number enough times that I ended up paying for them both anyway. £14 for two bottles of pizz. It was gone in two gulps and dad ended up putting half of his in the bin as he needed a pizz before we went up to our seats

It's a difficult choice because if they have everyone's decent lager, you get to the stage where the person serving is waiting 5 mins whilst Jim is phoning Steve to ask whether Dave said he wanted Moretti or Kingfisher and to tell Rob that there is no IPA this week so does he want Moretti, Kingfisher or a bottle of Marti Cifuentes?

Keep it simple, keep it expensive, those who want to drink it will still drink it.

I like the system they had at Southampton a few years back. Behind the cashiers there was a shelf and the beer taps were behind that. There was a gang of staff just pouring pint after pint and putting them on the shelf. When you asked for two beers the cashier could just reach behind them and hand them over, very quick service.

That's usually what happens at Test matches.

As pointed out if people keep turning up at LR and paying over the odds for a bottle of Carlsberg then that is unlikely to change anything!

I have spent the most of my money/years going to concerts and after parking and tickets just never bothered with drinks and enjoyed that being almost oblivious to that scene.
However in 2024 I went with 2 friends to see a rock show and they went straight to the bar before we even found our seats.
They bought for me of course and 10 minutes into the show after another round it was my turn.I had to go up to the concourse ,wait in line and pay $45 dollars for 3 beers I nearly dropped dead.
Of course it was cashless and the pay machine would not release my card until I tipped so I dug in my heels until a kind woman reached around and pushed an almost invisible "no tip at this time "button and I was free to head back down.
I missed at least 2 songs and felt frustrated so I let them know I was out for any more rounds .
Lots of people go to concerts for food and drinks I suspect and the music is background noise .
Football is totally different of course its non stop action for 90+ minutes so food and drink become secondary I think .
7 pounds per beer sounds like a deal btw

I'd probably pay it if it was 'Neck oil' or 'Gamma Ray' (first nice ones that popped in my head), even a Perroni but shit lager pfff.

I'd rather drink after.

I think I had Hobgoblin once in the Ellerslie or am I mistaken?

Hobgoblin is on tap at the hut in the Loft concourse.
Weak as hell, annoying that they replaced Shipyard with it.

Back in the eighties when we were sponsored by Guinness I remember they had numerous pints of draught Guinness already poured before, during and at half time in the lower loft.

Great days indeed.

The thing is, there is only a small window for people to buy the drinks and a maximum we can physcially sell, due to time to get served so on.

So by going from £6.25 to £7.25 (or there abouts) has probably stopped some people getting a drink, but I (and I have nothing to back this up) imagine that the actual numbers of beers hasn't dropped, due to service times and people previously giving up.

Doesn't make the pricing right, of course.

We can't do the pre pouring model as we don't have space for the pints.

I would be more inclined to get a drink at HT, before kick off, if the beer was Estrella, like what they stock in the Loft now. Presumably the catering company could swap them out. Carlsberg is a stupid choice.

Same in Ellerslie.
My memory tells me that the pints had a plastic lid on them, could be wrong.

I recall a chap demanding that they pour him a fresh Guinness as that is the only way it should be served or drank, held the queue up for what seemed like an age.

Cheers, might have got my stands mixed up it was a while ago.

Hobgoblin is good at a music festival if you are drinking all day. Gets you drunk but you can remember the gig...mostly.

Not everyone's cup of tea i imagine but a pint of estrella galicia (apparently not Marti's favourite) at Naaarwich away was £5.90 and took around 2 mins to be served... similar setup with guys, girls and possibly others hiring in the background ready to serve the thirsty hoardes. I never purchase at Loftus Road anymore, but might reconsider if there was decent choice at reasonable prices

Given all the variables, I wonder if they've thought of having mobile sellers?

See a lot at sports events in Canada, Mexico, and the bit in-between; which diffuses tension at the fixed buying points. If they just selling bottles, it only needs a poor minimum waged youth to stroll around or, where such isn't possible (Upper SAR) base themselves in the stairwells area to sell the club's pizzle water.

They did this for a bit in Ellerslie (before it was Stan Bowles) but doubt they could get the staff/the custom.

At least there is some other draft options in the Loft, we literally get a shack with Carlsberg and Shipyard for pints in Stan Bowles or bottles from the kiosks, at the same price for less beer.

Went down at halftime for the 1st time in about 10 years on Saturday, was surprised to see how Smokey it was, had to go back up just to breathe.

Went to Charlton a few weeks ago with work, they had multiple lager draft options peroni/grolsch as well as meantime IPA and cider, better beers and cheaper prices.

What I find strange is that it is cheaper to buy two half pints than a pint! At least at the outside bar in Loftus Road.

£3.60 per half, £7.25 per pint!

That's how they do it at sports grounds here in Sydney. Loads of beers poured that can be quickly grabbed by the person taking your order.

The big difference here though is you can take your drinks back to your seat to have while watching the game. The scenes at half time at LR with people lining up to buy crap, overpriced beer and then having hardly any time to throw it down before the restart are frankly ridiculous. If you can't even have time to enjoy a beer what is the point?
