After 31 years, more than half my life, I no longer live in Sheen. Do I need a new persona to go with my new location? Unfortunately I can’t think of any punning references for my new location. Any other Pimlico Rs?
I dont particularly like my username , means nothing really. I dont even gamble. I've thought about changing it but no point really, Ive gone back to my Hooj Choons profile pic as well.
I lived in Barnes only up to the age of 6. Mum and dad rented the upstairs of a house on Elm Grove road. Red Lion pub down the end of the road, with a pub garden, perfect for a 1970s parent. I was always in the area though growing up.
We lived at the other end of Castelnau, a stone's throw from Hammersmith Bridge. Remember the Red Lion well. And the common of course. An utterly brilliant place to go wild in when you were a kid!
I do my shopping at Waitrose in Sheen. I bet you did as well. Nice big carpark and a Gails where the bank used to be, plus that new Italian shop - Valentina. And of course, just up the road, a nice walk through Richmond Park. Bet you wanna come back now….
I was in Church Avenue behind the Hare & Hounds for seven years then Sheen Lane just up from the War Memorial for 24 years. A great place to bring up kids but now two out of three have left it’s time for a change. Does anyone know a short guy called Colin, claims to go to every away game, helps out in Chubb the butcher? Sadly that’s closing soon.

Oh, I thought you used it because you 'live by the river'.
My name really is Daniel Paddox. I have luxuriant blonde hair, lovely teeth, and my avatar is my passport photo.
I like Pimlico. Though transient up the top near Victoria it gets more interesting as you gravitate towards the river. My theory is, because of its geography, it’s not a place people often pass through so it’s built up its own character. The Grosvenor’s a curious pub. The clientele seems to be a mix of locals from the Churchill Estate, policy wonks from Millbank, and Mi5. Though the latter could be my imagination.

That's where my wife lived funnily enough. We still go down that way to visit her mum. Walked over Hammersmith bridge a couple of weeks ago. They've lifted up all the tarmac and under it is just wooden planks. Crazy to think of all that traffic driving over it. No idea why it's taking so long to fix though.

Money!
As I understand it, neither TFL or the LBs of H&F or R want to take responsibility for it. Why they can't simply agree to pay a third each is beyond me.
Was in the Blue Anchor a few times when I was last back and looking at how HB has become this forlorn sight is a disgrace.

Yeh , built in 1827 and now in 2025 we can't even repair it. So much for modern advancement.

Ah, the old Bridge. It still haunts my dreams. I must have walked back and forth over it well over 10,000 times, on my way to school and back, on my way to the delights of West London.
The current bridge was actually opened in 1887, designed by the famous Joseph Bazalgette, he of sewers fame. The orginal, the first suspension bridge over the Thames, was built in 1828, and designed by William Tierney Clark, who lived and died in Hammersmith and also designed the Széchenyi Chain Bridge across the Danube in Budapest, Hungary. The first bridge linking Buda and Pest...
The eminent Mr DMM of this site and I went there recently to pay homage to the old thing.
There've even been comments on US TV about the bridge being u/s for so long and indicative of the state this country is in. Some of the art work was designed by local artist William Morris.
For 31 years I was of no fixed abode due to perpetually moving, living, or working around London, England and then all points of the compass. Thus, it seemed something 'global' would suit.
Currently selling the parental home that I happily grew up in and while Greenford may not be a go-to destination, its where I unashamedly say I'm from. Why? My parents settled there from Ireland, both died in that home, and growing up as a kid with a disability my life could have been made hell, but it wasn't, for I was treated as an equal in the place I grew up in.
I maybe Planet, I may, finally have settled in France, but there's always been a bit of UB6 with me along the way.
