Sheffield United in for Grimes ? on 12:12 - Jul 14 with 2615 views | 3swan | Just read about that. The possible take over might happen soon. The owners will possibly splash out for promotion. Grimes and a Norwich player could possibly on a interest list. There was a lot of possibly in the Nixon rumour.

Why wouldn't another football Club look at an others player, one who's been consistently first name on the team sheet , never injured and never a problem to any of the many managers we've had , also not a bad footballer as it goes.

Thsi, 100%. For all the hype around Grimes nibody ever made a serious bid for him and I'd be surprised if the Baldes wnat him, I'd think they would be looking for better. Maybe his agent is angling for a pay rise. Or it could be genuine and if they will pay what we ask then I'll say goodbye because we can do better. In my opinion he is ur mist over rated player of the last 20 years.

He wanted to leave a couple of years ago when he ran his contract down only to find that nobody was interested in offering him more than we were.

Nobody wanted him when on a free last time. I think this new lad is going to play in his position and he’s definitely better. Makes sense for him to move but he likes it here too much and is guaranteed to play every game - unless Luke’s cajones are bigger then I first thought and will drop the undropable

Anything upwards of £2m would be good business, especially as we'd be freeing up most of twenty grand a week on the wage bill in the process.

Yes, between 2 and 3 million would be good. There must be better players for less, probably abroad.

His wife is from south west wales and his kid/kids were born here so I'd suspect that's a good reason why he wants to stay at swansea, some players do put family before their bank balance and I think matt is one of those.

I would think that franco will be the cdm freeing grimes to venture further forward, where he should play.

Sheffield United in for Grimes ? on 20:53 - Jul 14 with 1752 views | Dr_Winston | I'm not sure why everyone is so convinced that Franco will allow Grimes to play further forward. Fulton did that and still Grimes loved nothing more than cwtching up with him and our central defenders. The way Grimes plays is not a personnel issue. It's a coaching one. He likes being cautious and defensive. Cooper and Martin liked him being cautious and defensive so indulged him. Potter and Duff demanded more, and we got it. When LW arrived he just lapsed back into his usual habits. Williams needs to demand the same things as GP and MD did, otherwise all we're going to get is a repeat of what we saw for most of last season. Both our midfielders spending most of their time in our own defensive third. [Post edited 14 Jul 20:57]

As I recall, Grimes did play in a more advanced midfield role for Exeter, and attempted more long-range shots. Whether he could do it in the Championship I don't know.
Sheffield United in for Grimes ? on 05:51 - Jul 15 with 1513 views | jack247 | It’s not so much playing 10 yards further forward, it’s having a central midfield partner that constantly finds space and demands the ball. He looks so much better playing alongside Allen than Fulton because he’s usually got a simple pass on that’s not sideways or backwards. Hopefully Franco gives him that. Agree he shouldn’t have the responsibility of being the furthest midfielder back. Mainly because he doesn’t have the pace to get back when we get turned over while we’re attacking.

He's been here for nearly a decade, under a variety of coaches and with a multitude of midfield partners, and for 14-15 months tops of that time he's played like some people think that he's just gagging to do as long as he hasn't got Fulton alongside him. When we get to this stage it's pretty obvious that Jay Fulton is not the problem with Matt Grimes.

That lack of pace is the concern and it dictates how he plays, yes you really need a dynamic midfielder but often teams change tactics to alter how the game is going so you can't keep doing the same old thing time after time you have to be adaptable and change things to suit the situation be it home games or away games, be able to counter pressure or unlock stubborn defending but doing so while maintaining your defensive integrity. We haven't got that right for quite some time, some would say we haven't had the players but some would say the coach has been stubborn and inflexible, I think it is a bit of both. The coach is the one who has to get the best out of his players, new players coming for a new season, fingers crossed. As for Grimes he needs to be used to suit situations and we cannot rely on one player as much as we do.

Spot on. If he doesn't want to go he won't. He has a settled family life with money in the bank with a guaranteed income of a £1M a year for the next couple of years and a regular starting place, why move. If it was a Premier League club and he wanted to test himself fine, but he is not up to that standard. He is a very lucky young man and he knows it, he's going nowhere.

She’s an Essex girl but from what I gather they love being here. He won’t be going anywhere and rightly so. Integral part of the club.
