A lot more going on there than "chase it Sincs", and an awful lot to drill into a team a third of the way through the season

We have a squad more suited to possession based football than Ainsworth hoofball so hopefully shouldn't be as difficult as it seems

Yeah that would be my concern: will take him time to adjust to and learn the Championship and will have little knowledge of other teams or players. Would he be able to hit the ground running and keep us up this season?

Has a good record though and could be a great appointment if he’s a very quick learner.

In the dugout at Rotherham on Saturday. That'll be a culture shock for the poor sod

On the plus side though, I suspect this is only going to reaffirm Reggie's belief in the power of prayer.

This I don’t agree with.

Dozell, Chair, and possibly a non wheelchair bound Willock aside I can’t see anyone who can carry and dispatch the ball.

Feel sorry for Dickie.

I hope that he does not make it too complicated for our boys...

So for clarity. We interviewed him last year, but went with Critchley, then sacked him and brought in Ainsworth, and sacked him as well.
Now a third of the season gone, we decide he is the right man after all.

Manager number.... 5 is it in 18 months?

Ah, I love supporting this club! 😍

I know what you mean.

I wonder (lazily) if there is a hint of the 'Luigi Di Canio's' about this possibility. But would it be too radical, risky and reckless (lots of r's there - sign?) for where we are right here, right now? IIRC the Di Canio appointment (mid 2007/8?) came at a time of much relatively calmer waters than now (recent massive new takeover, expensive signings on the way, FFP way over a distant horizon). Does/would Cifuentes (with no previous English management experience, I think?) really know what he is letting himself in for?

It was/is crying out for a solid proven down-to-earth Warnock, Warbs, Eustace appointment IMHO. Seems a 'salmon-leap' from Gareth Ainsworth in a matter of days, but hey.

I'll say one thing for you, geezer - you love a nice parenthesis!

It's brilliantly incoherent. As intriguing and potentially exciting as this appointment might prove to be, it does have the feeling of the right appointment at very much the wrong time. But who the fúck knows anymore!

We wanted him last year, he had a chunky release clause we couldn't afford.
His contract has run down, and their season is nearly over, so it's less of an issue this time.

https://totalfootballanalysis.com/article/marti-cifuentes-hammarby-if-tactical-a

"Once Hammarby progress into the opposition’s half, a significant volume of their attacking prowess is based upon the variety of combinations used and the existence in between the lines behind the midfield in the interior corridors that allow them to progress and create the superiority there over the full-backs. They position themselves dynamically as high as possible, then do good movements and counter-movements which create confusion."

...but do they empty the tank?

In terms of reactive v proactive, this appears more the latter and warnock would appear more the former. But could just be a case of the devil you don’t know. I don’t mind taking a risk though given i’d take about anything to ounch us out of this mediocre downwards sludge

I did say we'd let Gareth build his team and then spend the winter with Ajax Youth Bot 3.2 trying to teach 4-box-two to Josh Scowen.

I spose the only positive is that he signed cook and colback who played under a possession based manager at Forest (successfully), Cannon who you think is decent (i haven’t seen him yet), and smyth who can pass and has pace. Question mark over begovic, but presumably he’s had to play a shorter passing game in his career. Might not suit Fox or Dunne. Would potentially suit Chair, Willock, Dozzell, Paal. Think we might V see a bit of Dixon bonner, who i think has a chance, and kolli.

Bare bones.

It’d be an interesting appointment as it feels more of a long term plan and suggests that survival this season isn’t perhaps seem by the owners as the be all and end all. Otherwise, Warnock would be the obvious candidate or maybe another manager with Championship experience.

It’s a big ask for a new head coach in his first job in English football to hit the ground running 1/3 or the way into the season with the club second bottom. Certainly would’ve made more sense to appoint him at the end of last season to give him pre season to have time on the training ground with the squad and get his ideas across.

Also worth noting that the club statement re Ainsworth’s exit mentioned a new ‘head coach’ appointment which sounds more like Ciguentes than Warnock.

In summary, it is a classic QPR appointment.

Well, good luck to him, the only person on the planet with as difficult a job, the UN Secretary General; and even then, he wouldn't touch QPR!
