Barrow (H) Match Thread on 12:39 - Mar 11 with 9586 views | Yorkshire_Dale | All we ask is a decent hardworking display from the team......something to be a bit proud of ......is that to much expectation? Shoot on sight, and don't piss about at the back. Thank you.
Barrow (H) Match Thread on 14:23 - Mar 11 with 9415 views | EllDale | Apparently the last time that we played Barrow at Spotland was in September 1969? I'm sure that TVOS will confirm that tomorrow if correct. That means that you would have to have been of a certain vintage to remember the win but I don't and I'm adamant that I didn't miss a single home game that season!
Barrow (H) Match Thread on 14:28 - Mar 11 with 9403 views | dawlishdale | I'm fairly sure I recall us playing Barrow at home once when they wore an all red kit. No idea what year it was, but think we won 1-0

https://www.11v11.com/teams/rochdale/tab/opposingTeams/opposition/Barrow/ Like you, i would've been there but don't recall anything about it The only game against them i can recall is the FA Cup defeat in November 1966, when i stood on 'the hill' for the first time. Dunno why, i was usually behind the nets

The home game before that was probably the 3-3 draw against Bury which was a real thriller. Perhaps the Barrow match paled into insignificance compared to that one!

I was there….first home win back in division 3 after an uncertain start to the season. We were about to go on a a run of high scoring games and victories then ended with us topping the division. 6500 crowd but main sigificance of game was steve Melledew scored the only goal in what was to be his last game for the Dale before signing for Everton the following week. I vaguely recall it being a header into the far corner at the Sandy lane end…. but that could have been the previous home game, the 3-3 draw with Bury mentioned on another post. Of course Steve returned to Dale as captain 7 years later after not making it at Everton but a more successful time at Aldershot.
Barrow (H) Match Thread on 19:43 - Mar 11 with 8889 views | EllDale | The first two home games had seen a 0-3 defeat to Orient and then that draw. I hadn’t realised that the Barrow game had been Steve Melledew’s last appearance in his first spell at Spotland. To my mind he had gone after the Bury game but the match which had attracted Everton’s interest had been that legendary friendly at the end of July. There are plenty of team photos of him with the Everton squad who were to be crowned champions that season but he never actually made a first team appearance. It would have been easier now with plenty of squad rotation and more substitutes. He once told the story that he travelled with the team to Tottenham and was told by Harry Catterick that he would be playing if the pitch was heavy. It was too heavy on the day - the game was off due a heavy overnight snowfall. Really annoyed that I can’t recall this Barrow game though as I’ve always had a soft spot for the Bluebirds even when they did sign David Storf! It was a travesty when they lost their league status. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Melledew scored in the Bury game as well. He played at Spotland for Everton in a Lancashire Cup QF game in February the following season. We were in the middle of a 12 game unbeaten run started with a 4-1 win at the Shay on boxing Day. that run helped move us away from the bottom 4. We went 17 games with only 1 loss…the infamous 5-0 FACup replay defeat at Colchester. We went on to win the Lancashire cup that season with a memorable 3-2 win over Oldham in front of over 7000 crowd. Oldham brought plenty having just won promotion back to Division 3. The first time we had won the trophy since the 1949.

The gate for that Lancashire Cup victory was well above 7000, probably into 5 figures on a glorious Spring evening Rumours abounded at the time that a big chunk of the gate receipts (cash at the turnstiles) had disappeared and therefore the true attendance wasn't known

My second Dale game after the 3-3 V bury. My mate Cleggy who I went to games with back then annoyingly called them Berrow for weeks after. An early education into some of your best Dale mates talking $***e on occasion.

Barrow (H) Match Thread on 10:39 - Mar 12 with 8123 views | DaleiLama | Tannoy Problems We have been contacted several times over the season regarding the sound levels of the Tannoy system at Spotland. Trust Director Murray Knight has raised this several times over the course of the year and we have looked at a number of way of addressing it. Unfortunately, this has proved to be unsuccessful so far. However, Murray has been working with the stadium manager Kevin Lowe and changes have been made in advance of this weekend’s game with Barrow AFC.  What we want to know is how things are from now on, and we need your support with this. We need to be able to identify in what areas of the ground there are issues regarding the sound levels, and as such we are launching a survey to identify problem areas within the ground. It is essential that we take this beyond complaints of an anecdotal nature (“its too loud”) to pinpointing the areas where there are problems (“It’s too loud in Main Stand Block B Row W Seat 7” as an example). Equally, if things are fine where you go in the ground, please let us know. It's vital that we receive reports saying things are as they should be if that is the case. The survey will remain open after each home game through the rest of the season to see whether the issues continue. https://daletrust.surveysparrow.com/s/Tannoy-sound-level-concerns/tt-a8cbf1 Not sure if that link will work? I don't think this survey should just be for Trust members, but if admins disagree I'll delete this. Edit: Good to see this issue being tackled head on at last [Post edited 12 Mar 2022 10:40]

Ha! Just goes to show, the Bradford massiv aren't even original If i recall correctly, it was summat to do with the usual turnstile guys not being available since the game wasn't scheduled like league and major cup games are. The club had to recruit a lot of volunteers at fairly short notice and they weren't all as 'reliable' as might've been hoped

Could be anything. Dooley or O’Keefe as wingers. Keohane as wing back or centre back.

Think it'll be ball as the 3rd centre back with Corey further forward. RS hasn't ever played Keohane at centre back doubt he'd do it against a team like Barrow.
