Different football. Bell, Summerbee and Lee were superb.

It's being so happy that keeps me going.

I think it's hard to compare greats from different eras. The game is much quicker now, with heavy pitches in the early 70 s and the back pass rule. They were definitely harder in them days though, and despite the pitches the magical players like Stan still stood out

Stanley of course but I remember Corrigan as top class and Colin Bell was world class

The Stan Bowles that played for Queens Park Rangers - Yes

The Stan Bowles that played a few games for Manchester City - No.

Corrigan was the fifth best English 'keeper, but didn't play when they won the league in 1968. Ken Mulhearn was the custodian.

Colin Bell would definitely have made today's squad. As would the left back - Glyn Pardoe

Of the others Oakes, Lee, Summerbee & Young were all very good players, but IMO they don't match those currently playing.

^^^^^^
This.

Joe Corrigan was unfortunate that he played in an era when top class English goalkeepers were common and he was competing with Shilton, Clemence and our own Phil Parkes for international honours. Malcolm Allison said that Colin Bell, who was genuinely world class and today would be worth £100m, was the best player he ever worked with.

The England team's fortunes in the late 70s could have been very different had Colin Bell not suffered an ultimately career ending injury at roughly the same time Gerry suffered the injury that ended his international career.

Colin Bell would walk into the City side today.

I see a comparison between Bowles and Silva and if Bowles was playing on the surfaces today and was fitter he would make the team.
