Turning into my quiet residential street in Muswell Hill in the wee hours of this morning, I chanced upon the holy letters QPR scrawled in the thin covering of snow on a car window. I added "YouR's!, naturally. Really hope that whoever wrote it sees my addition this morning.

When I t'were a lad we used to walk up Muswell Hill, both ways, no shoes....but aside from that, I like the area, did about 18 months / two years work up there, split between a job on Colney Hatch Lane(the nursing home) and a grand old house on The Avenue. Took the occasional lunchtime pint in The Maid of Muswell and a place that I can't remember the name of, opposite the first ever Weatherspoons. A couple of us went into the Weatherspoons the day it opened, couple of giant Aussies working the jump, very decently they served us the beer on the house, think one of 'em might have been the owner. Another time I got a call out on a Sunday, we finished the emergency in an hour or so and decided to go on the piss instead of heading home. Went to that big boozer right in the centre of the hill, again dunno the name. Had a great Sunday morning session with the Turkish bloke who used to be in Eastenders. | |

Bombay Bicycle Club also went to Highgatewood School. I do like Crouchy, I moved here from Feltham (via a few years in Ealing & Shepherds Bush) and wouldn't live any where else now. There is a real community feel around the place and no sense you are going to get your head caved in on a Saturday night (unlike Feltham).
Best pubs for me around the area is the Queens, Haringey Arms or Earl Haig for drinking. Too many restaurants to mention, but all are good (the crap ones shut pretty quickly). However no where really good to watch the football unless its Arsenal. I do occasionally drop in the Royal Oak in Muswell Hill which is ok.
We should do a N10 / N8 meet up!! Konk can be an honoury attendee.

This thread really is taking me down memory lane, very much my manor late sixties to mid seventies, went to senior school off Rhodes Avenue and lived in Hornsey, and off Crouch Hill for a while.
Remember the Green Man at top of Muswell Hill, used to frequent the 'Birds Nest' disco which was attached, early years of bopping the night away with some lovely sorts, bl**dy killer walk getting up that hill, especially if two sheets to the wind, place long gone now, haven't been up there for a few years so no idea what they have put in its place. |  | | |

Think the culprit was my son on way home after a few drinks, said he couldn't resist temptation to highlight QPR name on dusting of snow.....surprised he could write that time of night, we're Burlington Road just off Tetherdown Often see either Rangers shirts or cars floating around the area and have definitely spotted the jogger. There used to be a big QPR flag on house in Fortis Green close to Western Road that proudly draped from the window following our last promotion. Have to say only ever seen one Fulham shirt, which is one more than I'd thought I'd see!
Love Muswell Hill but pubs are naff, Clissold and Alexander used to be good in the old days but hey ho change is said to be for the better, Used to live in Barrington Road Crouch End and pubs and restaurants are certainly better.

Despite the username I've been exiled North for 5 years now. Currently in Crouch End. Always noticed a handful of Rs heading this way to/from games - who'd have thought such a hotbed?
Find Crouch End great for grub and not bad for a drink - The Queen's, Maynard, Railway. Highgate preferable for pubs...

Yup through and through. Moved to London when 11 and since then myself and two best friends from school have supported them....50 years now!!
Each of our sons were converted from early age, parents are cruel to inflict that upon them. In fact they wouldn't have it any other way, most of my son's mates who all went to Fortismere are Gooners the only pain they suffer is the possibility they may not finish in top four!! | | | |

Another local minor celebrity is Ben Wilson, the chewing gum artist. Like the whole Palmers Green/Palmers Greek thing, a lot of North Londoners refer to it as “Jimmy Hill” because it’s so Fulham these days. That’s something I hear all the time. In fact, if we’d won the Europa League in 2010, the plan was to fu ck Fulham and Hammersmith off and just do an open top bus parade round and round the bus terminal/roundabout on the Broadway, before having a big reception and fireworks display up at Ally Pally. |  |

Black and white bunting everywhere, tin foil Intertoto cups in the shop windows, Dunn's in Crouch End were selling Intertoto cup shaped biscuits with black and white icing...in fact, they still do an iced bun with white icing as a discrete nod to Fulham. N10/N8 = Fulham.
This is my lot arriving in Muswell Hill about an hour after the game - "Que sera, sera, whatever will be, will be, we're going to Muswell Hill, que sera, sera":
