Crewe Away on 09:12 - Feb 7 by fitzochris | I agree, Chaff. There are positions all over the pitch that need addressed long term. Look at the consistency in selection of our full backs for example. Kennedy no longer seems up with the pace. Now the long floated ball forward is not being used in the game as much, he's not got a pass. If the team is set up for the two full backs to advance, then forget it if we come up against wingers like Ariyibi again. I understand Bunney came on at left back again yesterday. That is telling in itself. Players like Rafferty and Tanser have impressed at full back in the past but we don't see enough of them. I think we know by now that Rose isn't the answer. I've done the centre halves and keeper to death. Further forward and I've notice of late that Henderson's runs are taking him away from goal. If we're relying on him for goals they're not going to come that way. We're screaming out for someone else to make direct runs to support him. Syers seems to have taken the advanced midfield slot. A privileged position that needs a good eye and pass. No place for half a job. I've yet to see him play, so that will be interesting. For me Allen and Camps are our main assets, when both are fit. I'd be looking to keep them that way as best as possible. |
"Syers seems to have taken the advanced midfield slot. A privileged position that needs a good eye and pass. No place for half a job. I've yet to see him play, so that will be interesting." By all accounts he didn't have a good game yesterday, but when he returned after a long lay off against Burton he put in a very good 70 minutes, but wasn't anywhere near match fit. He looked to have "a good eye and pass" and a bit more about him; I said after the game - a touch of class. He's also a "unit" in that once he's got the ball it looks difficult to shake him off it. Yesterday might be the reaction that tends to happen when players have been out for a while; a decent first showing then not so good. But I'm hoping he's the first brick in the new wall that Hill will be starting to build from now on, with a lot more to come in the summer. We'll need to be patient. I'm as guilty as anyone in over-reacting to a defeat where we seemed to have just given the game away, but it's a perfectly natural reaction from a fan and the passing of years doesn't change that - nor should it. I agree with that. However, I'm not saying all of the above in reaction to the defeat. I wasn't even there, so my knowledge of the game is from anecdotal evidence and the goals footage. I'm basing my comments on what I have observed since October. I was determined that an overhaul wasn't necessary and the squad we had could be utilised to see us finish the season strongly. That still might be the case, but I am now convinced there is work to be done in the summer.

Crewe Away on 09:33 - Feb 7 by TVOS1907 | 'All'? If you bothered to read this board properly (which you do all the time because you are OBSESSED), you would notice a wide range of constructive criticism AND praise about the manager and his team selections. Compare that with some of the vitriol Flitcroft gets from certain sections of your support. |
Agree. | |

Crewe Away on 17:14 - Feb 6 by dingdangblue | I don't think you can get more inconsistent than beating Walsall 3-0 and Burton 2-1 then losing to Crewe 2-0. |
I wonder if its due to KH not being able to handle pressure games. Its a no win againsy top of the table , also same in cup against likes of Forest & Leeds...but when its a derby game and we expect a result ...it doesnt happen. Or a personal pressure game against baaarnsley, or lower order team fighting for their lives? Just asking the question since he clearly cant take the "pressure " from a handful of fans. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Its not Keith on the pitch at the end of the day though. He's admitted the teams inconsistency has him baffled this season. We've scored in every league game since Gillingham last November - quite staggering we drew a blank v Crewe - even discounting our own defensive deficiencies we should have scored at least one.

It does make you wonder what kind of message KH puts out - maybe subconsciously - to the players in the days preceding certain types of games. There were many of us not impressed with his pronouncements prior to the Bury cup tie, for instance.
