What's your favourite stand up? I'm looking for any recommendations to watch on tinterweb whilst exceedingly high. Bill Hicks, Jim Jefferies, Marc Maron is my normal preference but much like music this shit is always better when recommended.

Come on you R's!!

I'm lucky enough to have seen Alexei Sayle a couple of times live, including on his comeback tour a couple of years ago, absolute genius. His live album Cak is just wonderful.
Enjoy Stewart Lee a lot too.

I saw Jim Davidson last month up here in Suffolk, but he was just ranting and raving about everything, and I don’t think he told 1 joke.A bitter and twisted man I thought.

Best I ever saw - those that made me laugh so much I just wish they'd stop. In order of appearance.

Dave Allen
Billy Connolly
Eddie Izzard

For the purpose of the OP's exercise, I highly recommend watching Robin Williams, An Evening at the Met. You can watch it free online. No matter how many times I have seen it, it never fails to make me laugh.

Billy Connolly was brilliant back in his prime,as was Micky Flanaghan. One that I can’t stand though is the woman with cerebral palsy.I think most people would boo her off stage if it wasn’t for her disability.

As someone who has a a condition similar to cerebral palsy I completely agree. There are plenty of very witty comedians with disabiities and she's not one of them.

We are blessed with many many great stand ups in this country Crack Comedy club Kingston is excellent little venue. anyway go support our own Seann Walsh. His YouTube special about "the kiss" that ruined his life is brilliant.

Agree with others Stewart Lee who I thought I would hate is probably the best his routine on Ricky Gervais not being able to say anything is priceless

Fabulous puns

He may not be cool and trendy but I loved his self-deprecating style, his use of facial expressions and his ability to ad lib and work an audience. He also comes up with some seemingly original, and very clever and amusing, jokes; I can't remember if it's in the above video or not, but he tells one about two rabbits which I have never heard before, and I am ancient!

There’s a video on YouTube of him on The Roland Rat Show and it looked unscripted but he adapted to the scenario perfectly and still managed to wring some humour out of a potentially chaotic situation.

Ed Gamble is double funny.

My other half likes his podcast with James Acaster.

I thought his cameo in an episode of ‘Man Down’ was funny,

Aisling Bea? Really? I've always found her super annoying on TV.

Her stand up is way better than her acting. We see lots of comedians doing panel shows and they can do 90 seconds of funny in spurts Seeing them do 5 minutes, then 10, then 30 is a different proposition.

The venue matters a lot too. I go to the Union Chapel a lot and the difference between there and places like the Leicester Square Theatre is stark - seeing a comedian in a place larger than a club but away from the arena is great. Close enough to engage but larger than an intimate gig.

I see Seann locally a few years back as well as supporting Romesh (also very good) and Seann is up there with the best for me. I also like Simon Brodkin (as himself not his characters) very underrated IMO.

I’ve got tickets to see Glenn Moore next weekend. I’m really looking forward to it. I saw one of his warm-ups for Edinburgh - he was excellent.

Ignacio Lopez is one to look out for.

Another for Stewart Lee. Saw him in Edinburgh this year and was just awesome. Foil, Arms and Hog were surprisingly good live. Irish trio with strong internet following and put out 3-5 minute video every Thursday. Their live show Hogwash was pretty good.
Rachel Parris is very good live as is Henning wehn, very funny German comedian.

Never knowingly understood

I thought he might be funny but I was wrong. He didn’t tell one joke all night, but spent all evening telling stories about his life. And promoting his tv channel of course.
