Is it a Swansea fan thing 08:27 - Nov 30 with 4904 views | dgt73 | That every time the team doesn't play to its absolute maximum, there seems to be some kind of mental break down and everything takes a hammering from players to refs to fans allegedly not creating a good atmosphere. My second question is do Swansea fans understand the expression "keeping things in perspective" ??????????????????????????. Answers on a postcard please.

Is it a Swansea fan thing on 15:52 - Nov 30 by monmouth | Yes....that season under ML when we were safe at the end of February became the most weirdly miserable watching experience with a totally dead crowd and disinterested team. Similarly under Brodger, I remember some booing when we drew with Wolves and serious moaning before that when we lost three to everton, newcy and QPR even though we were clearly going to be safe (a wonderous achievement...even more so in retrospect). Football needs pressure these days it seems to generate an atmosphere. It never used to be thus...I remember simply wanting us to annihilate what was in front of us, not much caring about the table. Yeah, the stakes are much higher these days and individual matches are set against the context of the season rather than being treated as a one off. When we were hovering between league 1 and 2, it didn't really matter as much, as long as we stayed in the league, so the games themselves were more of an event than part of a sequence of results.

exactly i had to walk away and it kills me watching on pc or pub but sitting in the stadium with some of the nobs that go these days, well was affecting my sanity.some women go and just natter for 90 mins, some kids just dont want to be there, forced by parents so they can be there it all affects the atmosphere and as for hymns n arias shows wher the new fan has come from.

Nonsense. Hyms and Arias has been sung for years, I believe Kevin Johns sang it before the Hull (L2) game on the mic. At the start of the game it's become part of the fabric of the club and I have loads of friends who support other Prem clubs from my Uni days and they all rave about it. That's not to say that there are some annoying 'new' fans but hey ho. People pay their money ad can do what they want.

In fairness, he may well have sung it before the Hull game, but we have only adopted it since the Reading game. I don't get what annoys people about it though

Over the years I've heard it many times at away games in particular. I think it was given a rousing rendition in the semi against Forest. Like you say though I don't get why some go on about it.

Sorry, but that's not true. It's been around for donkeys years, not like it is now but certainly a long, long time.

It has only recently become an unofficial Swans anthem. Take my hand or take me to the vetch field were far more prominent before. Both pretty much just away songs now

As T2C said, it's been sung of and on for years but it really came to prominence in the way we use it now during the season we got promoted to the Premier League.

Makes it sound louder and acts as a prompt for the crowd to start belting it out. Just in case we forget, presumably.

Is it a Swansea fan thing on 17:21 - Nov 30 with 1088 views | dickythorpe | Well according to my old man the Vetch used to play the "Woody woodpecker" theme tune at every game when he was a youngster late 40's early 50's. Long overdue a comeback. Plus didnt "I'm forever blowing bubbles" get a mention in the 100 years of the Swans book?

I see. I thought it was to make people think that its louder than it actually is.

By all accounts 'Blowing bubbles' was a Swans song first.

Is it a Swansea fan thing on 17:47 - Nov 30 with 1042 views | VetchitBack | Just because it was sung sporadically down the Vetch doesn't mean it's recent rise to prominence has nothing to do with glory hunting egg-chasers who wouldn't have lowered themselves to watching us in the lower leagues. It was a rugby song down the Vetch and it's a rugby song now.

The crowd these days is egg chasers? I would strongly disagree. The people where I sit are all long term Swansea City, and mostly love hymns and arias. There's one who doesn't, mostly because he considers it an egg song. Whereas I consider it Welsh. It's a Welsh hymn, it wasn't written for rugby. I love it. And no to the op. It is totally a football thing. Fans everywhere do it.

Yes I suppose. I prefer rugby to football but the Swans are my first love. Rarely go to the Ospreys. Used to regularly go to see Aberavon back in the Alan Martin, John Bevan, Clive Shell days...long time ago now.

Is it a Swansea fan thing on 19:06 - Nov 30 with 952 views | Stanners | Must admit I was frustrated with yesterday's result against Palace Thought we created enough chances to have won the game The frustrating part of the game was that we were in total control of things till they scored and it effected us which is a worry People were disappointed but I don't think the reaction was that bad if I'm honest

Mate, Hymns and Arias is a song specifically written for rugby by Max Boyce. It's not a welsh hymn. "Now Wales defeated England in a fast and open game, we sang cwm rhondda and Delilah and they sounded both the same..." But...we have had it for many years; I remember really strong and sustained renditions in our promotion year from league 2 for sure. So in football terms it is ours, and something everyone can rally around as it is unique unlike any of the others except the Swansea city song.
