| News Comment | Southampton V Wolverhampton Wanderers The Verdict at 11:35:06
Downes' injury was a big part of the reason behind the first goal. Aribo, his supposed replacement, was out of position. This allowed Wolves a completely unchallenged cross field pass. Stephens, was surely the natural fit to stand in for Downes with KWP switching to left back and Sugawara on from the start. The VAR mess was shameful. Disallowing a good goal and then inconsistently not reviewing the same incident. I'm leaning towards us only losing a point on this game tho as we had no other shots on target! I am resigned to relegation now unless there is a wonder appointment waiting in the wings. Half of me thinks if there is improvement in how RM sets the team up and adopts a more pragmatic style of play then we should keep him. He's proved to be a good Championship manager. However if he can't or won't do this then it probably is time for a change. COYR |
| News Comment | Graham Potter Ready To Return To Management at 11:01:19
This is clearly a 'come and get me'. Really like this to happen but unless we are already talking to him, someone else Everton/ palace will jump the gun and offer big money. They both are unfraid to spend pay high wages, have better squads and Everton have a brand new Stadium to show their intention to invest big. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Arsenal The Verdict at 10:18:14
I thought of the three Arsenal goals the first was a great strike after an enforced error, the second was offside, the 'non interfering' player was right infront of Ramsdale and the third Sugawara should have done what Rice had done just a few minutes earlier booted the ball into row z as soon as he had possession. With the data analysis teams and international players in the PL, possession football is a failed strategy for us at this level. Bournemouth and Arsenal both admitted they knew exactly what they were looking for in our play and targeted it. Teams have found us out and know how to play it. RM needs a drastic rethink. Given we were all half expecting a major drubbing, I was quite positive after the game. However results have to improve. If we are nowhere after the next 5 games, reluctantly I think it will be time to change the manager. Positives from the game, Aribo and Fernandes and Archer getting off the mark, Tall Paul also sold some great dummies. RM needs to pick a back 5 and stick with it now. COYR |
| News Comment | Southampton V Arsenal The Preview at 12:50:50
Saints' fans are never too far away from a make or break game. If only one of our many strikers would come into form, I think there might be a rapid change in attitude. COYR |
| News Comment | Southampton At Bournemouth The Verdict at 15:12:57
Think we need a rapid assessment of who, has the ability to play in the PL and is also up for the challenge and then play them in their correct positions. Whether this is from a new manager or RM gets the message from last night's abject display is beyond my pay grade. COYR |
| News Comment | Big Big Game For Russell Martin At Bournemouth at 13:47:10
Yes Martin may get the sack but I think, unless there is an alternative already lined up, that after 6 games would be far too early. Those that don't like Martin, didn't like him last year and despite celebrating going up were never going to give him much time in any case. Staying in the PL for a newly promoted side is always going to be tough. I have seen enough improvement over the last 2 games to believe he deserves more time. However it is football, so we shall have to see what happens. Hopefully 3 points and a chill pill for most of our fans. COYR |
| News Comment | This Weekend's Fixtures, Can Southampton Get Out Of The Premier League Drop Zone at 15:48:52
Leave the doom and gloom to our fellow strugglers. The squad is settled, performaces have improved and we have some genuine PL stars. We started slowish last season when lots of people, including me, confidently stated that we wouldn't go up under Martin if carried on playing this kind of football. He tweaked the playing style throughout the season despite claiming that his 'philosophy' was unchanged, so.... Yes ......but it may not be this week, lol. COYR |
| News Comment | Southampton V Ipswich Town The Verdict at 10:04:53
Definite progress. We have the nucleus of a really good team. Shame that a fluke unstoppable defection took 2 points from us at the death. It was always going to be tough coming up. Going up to 18th with a draw was an eye-opener. COYR |

We should be in with an excellent shout if we can field 12 players. I'm guessing you really mean Ramsdale and 2 from 3 CB's tho? |
| News Comment | Southampton V Manchester United The Verdict at 13:06:49
I expected this season to be tough and am prepared for the team to be learning on the job in the early season. The initial team set up was exactly what we had all been requesting, barring Stephens getting an automatic pick, however in Martin's defence on this THB has been off form and ABK looked rusty against Cardiff. We played really well first 30 mins in particular Midfield had the right balance between defence and attack, we were stopping Utd and turning them round. Then came the penalty and again Stephens is missing, he should be organising and even as other captains do, disrupting the delay so that the pressure is eased for the penalty taker. Go and push Onana back FFS! But Jack is nowhere. As you say the game deflated rapidly after that. Good to see Stewart getting a run out. If Archer can't take his chance, then Stewart needs to start ASAP. Next game I hope we stick with current formation, just THB or ABK replacing Stephens. In the first 30 minutes, there was real improvement over the performances in the first 3 PL games. I'm not getting too despondent as we knew we had to step up a level and, as they say, progress is not a straight line. COYR |
