I totally agree with Nick on this one; I'm fed up with the moan, moan, moan :( I can honestly say I have not been too disappointed with the last few summer transfer windows - at the end of the respective window. It's easy to rip that assessment up at the end of the season, in hindsight judgement of a players success - but invariably Saint go for real potential, they rarely go for proven over-priced talent with years on the clock, and that can be exciting to watch as some players blossom into better players. This is one of the reasons my son and I are season ticket holders for years now = we don't expect to win the league, being a lifelong Saints fan at 42 I go to watch exciting games and attractive football (I grew up watching Le God) with the hope of a few big caps and a final or two. That's not lack of ambition; excitement and joy are relative emotions, and this is why Claude Puel was such a mismatch in the end. The fact Saints were so close to getting Maddison last year proves their judgement on player potential was good, unfortunately Leister were a more attractive option at the time. As much as I would love big money spent on exciting potential, I also have seen the academy shine when given the chance, and I trust our inspirational manager to form a squad of quality, tactical adaptability, youthful exuberance and balance - given time and backing. That backing needs to come from the fans too? As soon as Ralph Hasenhüttl joined us - he made that perfectly clear, his approach feeds off positivity - so let's all get positive and try to enjoy the ride. COYS |
| News Comment | Claude Puel ! The Case For ! The Case Against ! at 13:30:54
Although not always agreeing with all the opinions and points on this site, this article is really well written and thought provoking. As in this article; I feel split with both sides on the 'question' of Puel and his future at Saints. You have to be proud that Saints commit to youth and they were certainly thinking this when appointing Puel. I was at the game in Nice for Englands disaster against Iceland but talking to lots of French reporters as news broke of Saints interest in Puel, it was clear he offered something Saints fans wanted, a longer term prospect than the previous bitter experiances shown of 'Koeman the double headed snake' and the mute 'Poch'. He was renowned for youth development and it has to be remembered this takes time to see and achieve, begging the question should we be patient? However Puel also lacks that excitement and communication that allows for belief; can he communicate to his players, in an inspiring way, to get the most from all ages and personalities? I'm not convinced. ...at the moment. Saints are at another cross roads that will effect the future of the club and it’s supporters. With buy-outs, players values, commitment, management, transfers and the style of football all under scrutiny, lets stay calm, stay passionate and remember we are the Saints. We need to show the passion to help raise the team and remind them, Hull was a terrible game but the crowd hardly helped silently watching on as the passion from Hull rang out. If your angry, I suggest you put that passion into loud vocal backing, to show we are not a 'prawn sandwich' club, but a tight club who do things our way. I’m sure the board will be patient, as that has always been one of our strengths of the last decade, if they decide to replace Puel, I trust them; it will be for the right reasons, and certainly not one forced upon us. If he does stay, then we could re-inforce how a club should be run and supported, with loyalty, fearlessness, originality and passion. COYS. |
| News Comment | Should Saints Go For Cabaye Or Schneiderlin In January ? at 10:14:51
Totally agree future 'progressive' CB is main focus, current form suggests we should also be looking closer at the options for a frontman but the key to midfield is that we are so reliant on the brilliant Oriol Romeu. If he were to pick up an injury I'm not convinced the back up quality is there to match him. Spiderman could do this, and Saints know it, yes wages would be high, but perhaps a deal can be considered; his value has dropped and could offset some of the difference, he will be keen to play regularly were ever he goes so will pick his move carefully and that could be the difficulty - as Oriol is currently first choice. Could they play together? Can Saints convince him? They would have a real coup if they did. Building a stronger squad is how Saints will 'progress' and no one can argue Spiderman would not help to achieve that, perhaps even at the expense of losing Clasie. |
