And so it begins - City v football 18:29 - Oct 8 with 1983 viewssaint901

The opening salvoes have been exchanged and both Man City and the PL are claiming victory in the opening skirmishes of the 110+ charges laid against City.

It was always going to be the case that City would spend big on lawyers but I have to say that their initial statement has surprised me.

They claim that the preliminary finding of the panel is that ALL of the APT rules are illegal.

If this is correct, then football has forever disappeared from the reach of the normal fan and we will see teams funded, like City, by an entire country being able to spend whatever they want to build a team. They would be able to buy other players and not play them just to keep other teams from having them.

It brings a European perhaps even a global super league closer.

It means that many League1 and 2 clubs will cease to exist.

It means the end of competitive football in the UK, perhaps Europe.

If City get away with this approach, then we will see the 2034 edition of the world cup being played by oil and gas rich nations with all others being unable to compete.

Aren’t they two separate things, albeit obviously linked.

Either way, it’s going to bore the shite out of every decent football fan for the next few months.

Well it will be either that or the future of Ten Hag at Man Utd on the back pages (and inside pages

Eventually City will be relegated with a massive points deduction and the owners, manager and players will bale out. It happened to Rangers and it took them a few years to recover.

As far as City fans are concerned it will have been worth it for all the trophies they won and the period of dominance they had over their rivals. Similar to what happened to Pompey, only on a much bigger scale.

This will only finish one way.

Manchester City's lawyer is being paid in excess of £10k per hour so I expect City to be hit with a fine rather than a points deduction, probably £1m or thereabouts which is like fining me 50p.

The PL have already prepared the ground for not deducting City points by refusing to dock Leicester points for blatant FFP breaches

I saw some Liverpool and Man Utd fans suggesting City could be hit with expulsion from the league. If that happened City's lawyers would bankrupt the PL. The PL are scared sh1tless that a European super league could result from City being expelled which would finish the PL gravy train

Just my opinion

£10k an hour is deluded.

I know some top silks who get less than a fifth of that.

I can't imagine a contract silk can command that sort of money.

Absolutely no way City get enough of a points deduction to be relegated.

Their lawyers will paralyse the PL before that is allowed to happen.

We may also see Gov't intervention (curious timing about a football "Czar") if it threatens to damage relations with nations who buy lots of bombs and bullets from us.
