Russell Martin ‘ This is what we have got’ No more help from the USA ! on 09:17 - Aug 21 with 3186 views | cadleigh | Sentiment on social media this morning is leaning towards ‘Yanks Out’, no doubt driven by Martin’s comments yesterday. One poster even said he deserves the freedom of the city if he gets us out of the bottom half of the table. Whether he intended to or not, Martin has deflected a fair amount of attention away from his own performance and onto the owners. Could we see more anti-shareholder demonstrations at future matches? Or does this make the board more likely to ditch Martin before things get worse? [Post edited 21 Aug 2022 9:17]

Russell Martin ‘ This is what we have got’ No more help from the USA ! on 09:29 - Aug 21 with 3126 views | STID2017 | Excellent post. In the aftermath of the game I felt enough was enough and time was up for Martin. However after reflecting on the situation as a whole and reading this article, sacking Martin is not the way forward. He has to himself reflect on the fact that he is not utilising his players or squad properly. He has to work with Joel Piroe, get him on fire again with a view of getting him the transfer he wants in January. Martin and his coaches need to sit down and have a long conversation about the way they are playing and its ineffectiveness. There are times for passing it around but this has to be coupled with sharp incisive penetrative attacks. On the defensive side that clearly isn't working in the current format. It needs to be tightened up and work as a unit and move back and forth as a unit. The midfield has class in it with Allen, Nitcham and also Grimes who is looking better alongside Allen. The forward two have the class to score almost at will, if we can get them playing and scoring in unison. As the article makes clear, Russell Martin is going nowhere. It is up to all of us who care about the club to get behind the team and him, for the good of Swansea City AFC

Given that the crowd was "loud" it would seem no matter how much the crowd is behind the team it makes little difference. I take a different views obviously and see a man basically single handedly killing our team. Three young players on on loan yesterday yet we are down to the bone .The fans are not responsible for that. Fans deserve some respect and btw,we ARE a proper club

What's the debts of those clubs then? Running costs etc? Are they running at a loss? Risking their status? Or are they running at a profit or breaking even? Like we do.

It doesn’t matter to the point at hand. He is complaining that we can’t afford to buy more players and others complaining he’s not been backed. He’s spent more money than almost everyone else in the league on players in the last 2 seasons. Some haven’t spent a penny (and are all above us). [Post edited 21 Aug 2022 9:44]

He said numerous times we would have to sell to buy even after Downes left. He accepted that at the time. Did he mention it after our win at Blackpool? Did he mention it after Millwall? So why mention it now?

Doesn't matter how much we have spent and compared to whom. We clearly need a couple of players at least yet we will have nobody else. Martin I agree is to blame for a lot. However quoting figures and budgets helps not a jot. The Yanks have pulled the plug so until we get new owners in we have to go with what we have.

Why would you want new owners? Can’t fathom anyone who would want to get rid of owners running us at an even keel while spending more on transfers in the last 12 months than any other 12 month period in our football league history. I understand people want to deflect blame away from a perennially unsuccessful manager. But sometimes you just have to admit the obvious.

Of course it matters. All of those teams will need players. He’s been given more than most to get in what he needs. What are new owners going to do? They can’t magic money out of thin air… unless you are advocating for an oil tycoon to gift the club millions. Owners we have never had in our history.

You don’t know he’s going nowhere. The more pressure the fans can put on the owners to oust him the better for the club. I fully advocate giving both barrels every game. Once we move Piroe on we will have the money to get rid of him and give the new manager a bit of cash to get some of his own in. The last thing we need is to give this man even more money to waste. Because in 6 months time when the signings don’t work out he will be there with his hand out complaining again with fans wanting the owners out because the manager can’t spend money correctly. Face the music chaps. Stop passing the buck. Time for reality.

When we get new owners who will back a manager then change the manager by all means. The Yanks have made their position clear. No more money, no money to sack Martin, no money to entice a new manager. Under those circumstances apart from quoting budgets? what would you suggest is to happen ? How do we turn it around ?

But we have just established that they have backed the manager and spent more in 12 months than most of the rest of the league and more than we have ever spent in the football league. What do you constitute “backing the manager”? Giving him everything he wants and plunging the club into debt by giving him an open cheque book? Remind me when we have ever had such an owner? You aren’t being realistic, you are just trying to deflect the heat off the manager. May as well ask for an oil tycoon. Pie in the sky stuff.

So the site owners with their impeccable sources spell out the current financial situation, yet it seems you know better? Interesting that if you have more accurate sources maybe you should be advising Keith and Co? Not having a dig, would just mean the site's articles would be more accurate, wouldn't you agree

When Cooper left, I said that the next manager is going to have an invincibility cloak. I made the point that they will turn on the owners before they turn on the manager. I see it’s now happening. £8m spent on players in 2 championship seasons. 4th highest in the league, unheard of for our club. Many things you can level at the owners, not backing us in the last 2 seasons is not one of them. It’s a myth I'm more than happy to bust before it gathers legs.

You can’t manufacture Faux positivity en masse. It just doesn’t happen that way. My view is that the owners don’t want to give Martin anymore money, not the club. And I agree with them. He’s had a full season plus and shown nothing to inspire me that he can take us upwards. And the players seem to feel the same as they’ve all but downed tools. Same rubbish every game now. That’s down to him.
