How can we as fans improve the atrocious atmosphere at home? 15:03 - Mar 17 with 6047 viewsDwightYorkeSuperstar

It is no secret that our ground is quiet for most game regardless of whether we are winning or not. If we had an atmosphere similar to the Cardiff game replicated for our remaining home games it would certainly help our cause, instead it is like a library, with the only constant form of noise coming in the shape of moans, groans and boo's.

What do you suggest we do to try and regain some pride? Arsenal have gotten a specialist 'singing section' established which has helped them. We already have a 'singing section', it is just that many people occupying this section do not sing.

Any suggestions are welcome.

There's a load of us in the upper eastern end of the South Stand that always sing. Sometimes it's hard to get everyone on board, especially when the quality on the field is so dire.

All the bloody crappy advertising along the back walls of the stadium does little to enhance the atmosphere too. Sometimes it feels like we're sitting in a copy of the Herald! Are flag owners still discouraged from covering it up? Perhaps the club should invest in some advertising of it's own.... along the lines of "Jack Army!" or "Swansea, oh Swansea".... like is evident (and I fear to utter it.....) at Old Trafford, White Hart Lane, and even CCS (Welsh Flags).

I understand why POG not being 100% in time might annoy some, but at least the guy is trying. Perhaps some of his critics could have a go at drumming up an atmosphere themselves?

I do wonder if the club selling STs in the NE corner has kind of sanitized the "singing section". Maybe expansion will help that by allowing those there who do not want to sing to move.

Very good post this. The banners at white hart lane etc as you mentioned are quality, adds much more character to the ground! Absolutely hate the advertising but I suppose there's not a lot we can do about it.

Although there is still some spaces where flags can go especially in the walkway inbetween upper and lower tiers. I'd love to put my flags up in the ground but there's nothing to tie it too. Tried using duck tape in the west brom game as advised by the stewards but it wasn't strong enough to hold them up

what is certain is there are now a large number of season ticket holders in the North East corner who don't play any part in the atmosphere. this didn't seem to be the case in the championship or certainly the 1st year in the prem. a few by me right on the corner make noise, but not many and we are isolated from the noise made over a bit by the POG. not a clue how we can change this. ideally the silent swap with more noisy people.

What hasn't helped is the huge amount of non Saturday kick offs we have had this year. a lot of people cant drink on sundays. a sober crowd is quieter than a tipsy/drunk crowd.

Agreed, don't want to sound like a dick but we need more 'Barmy' people in the corner, hopefully it'll sort itself out after this season when people who don't want to sing might be able to get a season ticket elsewhere. Just look at Southampton, hull etc they only have people who want to sing next to the away end which makes for better atmosphere!

Also, I'm sure families who don't want to sing that are in the north east are pretty p1ssed off with the abuse they get almost every game from the away end. As I said hopefully it'll sort itself out

whats worrying that these problems (such as people being in a part of the stadium that's not suitable for them) should iron themselves out with time, but they seem to be getting worse

Bit of luck the railings they now say are required in front row of NE upper will be sorted by Norwich game

There won't be some t""t in a orange jacket harping on about health and safety for 90 mins as he did on Napoli and west brom games.

Roll up, roll up to the Darran and Jackfath show.

Play along with them and pretend you believe that they are having a mini-fall out. Go on, it'll be funny as hell, i promise now.

Al Pacino and De Niro can sleep safely tonight. That was pitiful.

Improve the atmosphere, BOGOF, on the beer. Its that bad , you deserve a free pint everytime you buy one. More evening matches, Friday night would be perfect.

I'm not falling out with anyone we're umpteen complaints everyday about the same posters and I've had a f*cking titfull of it.

Then maybe you should pass on your stressful role as moderator to a new, up and coming poster who has shown himself to be an intellectual and key part of this site since his full-time arrival in January. Someone who has proven to be a calm, intellectual individual who never rises to the numerous posters who abuse him and try and get a reaction out of him. Someone who has proven to have the clubs best interest at heart and is united with other posters on the site on how to change our club for the better.

Let us pray that somewhere, on this forum, is a superb individual who matches the strict criteria above.

Another funny post by this guy considering (a) he doesn't go to home matches because he lives in Manchester for most of the season and (b) he didn't go to either of the Swans league games in Manchester even though he can get tickets very cheaply through the university. The reasons being (v. Man U) he'd seen the cup game the week before and that was enough and (v. Man C) the tickets were too expensive. When challenged that he can get cheap tickets he started on about other people having to pay full whack. See, our Dwight likes to cherry pick what he says.

He really is comedy gold.

Again, you have selectively read my posts and decided to either ignore or not read certain parts. I am only able to acquire cheap tickets for games which are anticipated to struggle to sell out. League games rarely fall into that category.

If you think that me and a select few others trying to highlight the wrongs of our club for the supporters too blind to see these faults for themselves is 'comedy gold' then you clearly are not a true supporter.

The Emirates is like a morgue! Are you sure you go football? The only atmosphere at the Emirates is created by the away support, we have a better atmosphere than arsenal. The way to make the atmosphere better is to pack the stadium out with fans...... If you don't attend many games then you are part of the problem you are trying to find a solution to!!!

We pack the stadium out every week and the atmosphere is getting progressively worse, not better.

The fact we have 5000 less capacity than any other team doesn't help. When you say "we pack" does that include you? Are you one that makes lots of noise at matches (when you do attend) or do you just like hearing others make the noise? If you are one that makes lots of noise then you should try harder to be at matches, no good filling a ground with the sandwich brigade. You would then be a part of the solution, It's no good moaning about something you are not doing anything about. Maybe turn your telly up a bit louder and you will at least then hear the "fans" a bit more.

Having a smaller capacity isn't a problem. We used to produce a semi decent atmosphere when the North East was known to be the 'singing section', but that changed when the club started selling season tickets to new fans in that area. Like my good friend treboethjack and others have mentioned, there are too many people in our 'singing section' that would be better placed sitting in the South or West stands.

And I could have had a surround sound stereo system and put it on full blast and I still wouldn't have made out a Swansea chant in the Palace of West Brom games, minus the now traditional pre-match Hymns and Arias.

In fairness this Isn't a Swansea problem, this is a problem throughout the land at every club. If you go on the forums of most clubs in the prem there will be a thread about this. It's to do with football becoming more corporate every year.
It's something that will only get worse unless they remove the seats from certain sections of the ground.
The clubs sell the season tickets because they need the guaranteed income they get from them. If you are unable to buy a season ticket to the "singing section" then you can't complain about the people that do. They are the one's truly supporting the club by putting their hands in their pockets.
If everyone that felt like you bought a ticket to the "singing section" then the problem would be solved........ Like I said before you are part of the problem, not the solution

Everyone apart from the handful of supporters who sing every game is the problem. I am simply trying to generate ideas on how to improve the atmosphere. We had some good ideas early on in the thread. It's a shame they will never reach the board and be considered as I'm sure The Trust wouldn't dare cause a fuss and jeopardise their comfortable position with the board. Run by the fans? What a joke.

I agree Arsenal is probably the worse ground I have gone to for atmosphere.

Old Trafford is also s**t no matter what Jordan's ex says. They might muster up a few songs when the scousers or Leeds come to town, but in general their home support is crap (away they are one of the best)

Lets be honest the Liberty still generates a better atmosphere than most grounds, as the OP has admitted he rarely goes to games, so he is in not the best person to compare atmospheres at grounds.

In fact it is just another bull s**t wind up post.

I'm warming to you because you're so funny (that could be replaced by stupid but I hope not).
You keep saying that people cherry pick certain parts of posts whereas you are the worst I've seen.

Here's another one for you, you say that you go and watch Man U through your ability to acquire cheap tickets through your school (who are you to turn it down) and then in this post you say that league matches rarely fall into this category, so which is it to be, do you go to matches or not ?
All I am doing is showing you where you keep contradicting yourself (too easy) to which you reply people are selectively reading your posts.

You say truly I am not a true supporter which is a bit rich coming from someone who doesnt go to any matches themselves even when they're on your own doorstep. Your post has the title "How can we as fans improve the atrocious atmosphere at the Liberty but you don't go so you cannot really comment on it can you ?

You are the one who commented that you kept the internet stream on for the West Brom game until the very end just so that you could hear the boos ring out.

Is this the description of a true supporter ?

I get the feeling that you won't be able to understand that but hey ho.

Comedy gold, keep it coming, it's so easy to rip through your posts, perhaps we could continue the conversation at Everton but I guess you won't be there either, pity really as they are doing children's tickets for £16.50. Their support wasn't very good last year either, nor was Liverpool's but you will just have to take my word for it
