| News Comment | Boufal Or Sims ? at 08:08:13
Both are impact players off the bench as we know but we also have Djenepo. The issue is when they start and id swap one of them for a midfielder who has more impact from the start like Armstrong. Sims might well become a better player from the start where as Boufal has proved he probably won’t ever because of the speed of the premier league etc. His body language wasn’t great either on Saturday |
| News Comment | Lemina On Verge Of A Return at 11:04:38
The Ings one is interesting. I’m happy for him to stay but we need another striker at least as good as him. In other words it’s risky if he is planned as our number one striker next year. |
| News Comment | Elyounoussi Determined To Be A Success At Saints at 12:58:47
If we can string a few results together and get safe then play him in a few games at the end of the season. If he gets a goal and a bit of confidence maybe but we have Boufal and i would rather him with Ralph for a season and send moi out on loan |
| News Comment | Saints Accounts Released at 16:49:27
Nothing wrong with these accounts up to a point but they don’t cover some of the more recent buying and selling. We cannot afford anymore duds now as we know and we could do with a couple more academy products coming through. Ie Hopefully the rise of Valery makes up for MOI but we need a few more smart deals. We also now have Ralph and I personally would get Carrillo and Boufal back and see what he can do |
| News Comment | Saints At Manchester United The Preview at 09:17:38
We had a little bit of luck against Fulham with them hitting the woodwork twice and we are still due plenty more before it evens itself out this season imo. Punished for smallish mistakes a lot. 2 draws in the next two games is possible if the luck continues |
| News Comment | A Rough Guide To Manchester United at 09:59:22
Work a lot in Manchester Salford is actually the coolest area in Manchester now Lead by the deaf hotel their most underground place. Plenty of restaurants around media city Classic manchester pubs include the British protection (opposite where the hacienda was hence they all drunk in there) , the prevril of the peak near there as well which is very classic and if you go to the northern quarter which is quite commercial now then the castle hotel pub and opposite a new mini Wagamamas called cocktail , beer , ramen and bun is great as is Mackie mayor food hall which is also near. Albert Schloss is the biggest and most impressive bar in Manchester but be careful wearing colours and both new Rudys pizza places are brilliant. Best city outside London for options I think now |
| News Comment | Arsenal Game May Be Too Soon For Injured Four at 19:48:08
The new contract says to me that Obafemi has now served his time and be warned. Arsenal are probably the one team who don’t like seeing Shane long on the teamsheet as he has a decent scoring record against them in the last few years. 4 points from the next two games and it could all look a lot different |
| News Comment | Hoedt On Verge Of A Move To Spain at 12:00:35
Of the 5 centre backs I think it makes sense for him to move on because clearly him and Ralph haven’t bonded. If he had been a 5m one for the future itwould of been a different story for me. But he is clearly expensive on our wage bill and we need to clear the decks in some areas ready for the rebuild which looks like it is going to be very exciting. |
| News Comment | Saints V Derby County The Verdict at 15:29:09
Good sum up and with all the injuries and suspensions and against a decent championship team this is not a disaster especially with the need to focus on the league Overall there were a few young ones and squad players who played ok to well again and really it was getting closer to a third 11 once again at certain points. Good in Ralph for trying these kids. To clear up the frustration fans are feeling with Moi and I was there. He has had quite a few chances now against premier league b teams and championship teams resting players and he has had very very little impact overall. He is going to have to really step it up in the second half of the season to be worth being anywhere near the match day squad when against battling premier league teams and can we afford to risk him again now we only have premier league games left ? When Redmond comes on we start to look very imbalanced , Ings back will help but unless we spend (which I think looks unlikely) we are going to let a few in at the back so we need a potent front 3. Hope he can get some form and confidence but at the moment that looks most likely if he goes on loan. |
| News Comment | Saints At Leicester City The Verdict at 17:06:48
A few players deserve some praise but Long the most. Well done Shane. Always kept a smile during a horrible run. Ralph is getting some much improved performances out of squad players and i suspect some of it is just a bit of confidence in their abilities coming back. With the run of games we have and the players coming back we can put a decent run together, and I suggest we play a half decent side on Wednesday and make it 4 unbeaten. A decent player singled in the window and the mood around the club could become very upbeat indeed. |
| News Comment | Saints Next Five Games Are Crucial at 12:54:00
We need to get back to our strongest first team ASAP , simple as for me Against Leicester we are without Ings, Bertrand (prob), Yoshida, PEH and Lemina (prob) so almost half our first choice 11 plus Obafemi, Gallagher and Austin if he is banned as options off the bench. If that carries on for long and if we don’t sign any replacements in jan and we have weakened the squad selling Gabbi, Davis etc then I’m worried. It’s more important to get them back in those 6 pointers ahead and with half a team out can we expect much at a wounded Leicester, with a lot less players out and with Puel no doubt still having a point to prove ? Gonna be tough but you never know. Coys Be delighted with a draw |
| News Comment | Saints At Derby County The Verdict at 07:53:35
This is going to take some sorting out as dirk doone says. Other clubs are not going to want to sign a large amount of those overpriced players and even if we subsidise their wages I can’t see them wanting to go to the level of club ie championship that may want them. That said I would say looking at the performances of Boufal and Carrillo I would take them back and see what Ralph can do with them. As for the match, overall we didn’t lose with a b team to a decent championship side and the replay gives more game time to Ralph to try out some young players still. Chelsea was only a game ago where we put In a very decent defensive performance and we have Bertie coming back who will surely respond to Ralph and again the replay may be useful for his fitness. My worry is the news of ings injury as dare I say he is now playing the wrong side of games needing to be played in the gamble we took and we are committed to another 20million there. I did recently say that I don’t think we will go down if we can keep PEH, Ings and I would now add Redmond to the list on the pitch which we aren’t at the moment. For me I am not sure Fulham are worse than us with any of the three above missing or will be after the window ? They have money. Buckle down this is going to be an exciting and close run thing on our survival especially if the owners show the same buying and selling strategy and risk taking with our future in this window. |
| News Comment | Saints At Cardiff The Verdict at 17:35:26
It’s going to go down to the wire for relegation by the looks of it I think for us it hinges on Ings fitness We gambled on him and he’s heading toward missig too many games already Make no mistake with our defence we are going to have to score a fair few goals to stay up |
| News Comment | Saints Return To The Blueprint For Hughes Replacement at 14:35:29
Would be a great appointment And I agree with saintlee that it would look like we will be active in the transfer market in jan for this to happen as he must of been promised funds Does this clear the way for Boufal and Carillo to come back And can we make some space in the squad by offloading and if so who ? Interesting couple of months ahead Coys |
| News Comment | Saints Need To Build On Run Of Draws at 11:24:42
If we win I do think that puts quite a gap between us and Fulham and stops them getting on a roll. If we lose we could be joint bottom and surely that’s the end of Hughes In a way what I don’t want is an encouraging performance and draw as that could keep him in the job like it did with MP last season where he got just good enough results in key games. We then have a nasty couple of games and I fear we will all be so down with the situation the negative spiral will suck us down. Other clubs around us stand more chance of getting home wins now ie Cardiff. Sometime very soon we need a great performance or else I am not buying the good set of players line. |
| News Comment | Saints V Watford The Verdict at 14:33:35
A slightly better performance and it looks like the players are playing for Hughes But when you look at the next 4 home games with both Manchester clubs and Arsenal in there then probably the best we can hope for after 10 home games is 1 win. Where are the wins going to come from ? No ones adrift at the bottom especially if we lose at Fulham So while we can moan about our luck or say there are slight improvements, Is it going to be enough to keep us up this year especially if we are not going to in January and are rivals are. Let’s hope Ings injury isn’t serious because if Austin gets banned and Longs out then we go to Fulham with a wafer thing attack imo but maybe being fored to try the youngsters might be what we need. |
| News Comment | Nathan Redmond Proving His Critics Wrong ! at 14:14:37
I agree with Sanmarco Yes a bit better this season but 1 goal in a season and almost a quarter. The rest of the team really has slipped If this is the best we can now find to praise. |
| News Comment | Saints Fans Should Focus On The Real Problem ! at 12:14:39
Some good points Nick. I think the absolute frustration especially of regular attendees at st Mary’s is coming to a head. 1 win since mid December. It’s quite possible we could go a year with 1 win at st Mary’s. Remember when Sunderland almost went a year without winning at home and won on the last game of the year ? They were considered an absolute mess and we are really not very far off them in this 12 months. So the club clearly does have massive issues and I can’t help thinking s few encouraging and supportive words from Mr Gao showing a bit of leadership from the top might not be a bad idea to try and lift the gloom over the club. As for the team. I still haven’t written off the new signings yet. Maybe Armstrong from what I have seen so far but the other may come good. It’s still the lack of a clear leader that worries me and we could of adddessed that over the summer but it probably meant buying an older player with limited re sale and that’s not our way. As for Hughes the thought of another management change and the wasted money paying him off says give him longer but lose the next two and I might change my mind. |
| News Comment | Saints V Brighton The Verdict at 08:52:07
I agree with Bathsait. There are some small signs of improvement but still no sign of a leader on the he pitch and it’s costing us 5 points from 5 could very easily be 5 points from 9 with the four games coming up. Teams know we struggle to hold onto leads and it’s given by them confidence to come at us and believe if they put a bit of pressure on at the end of games especially at st Mary’s we will fold. Gabbi is starting to of had too many chances to make an impact for me. I think we need to give Sam a go soon. Thank god we bought Ings but we are starting to become very reliant on him and at some point our luck with injuries both for us and for opposing teams losing their best players when they play us will change. |
