If we buy this lad then presumably we are selling Charley Alcaraz. I guess some money needs to come in and Charley seems to have some interest from other clubs. I'm expecting KWP, ABK, Onuachu, Mara, Kamaldeen and Charley to all leave before the end of the window to balance the books although I'm not sure how much Saints will actually make on the sales. |

Thought today was really well done by RM and the team. Experienced team focussing on defending without giving up too many chances. If McCarthy is to be our goalkeeper give him lots of game time and make him do stuff he struggles with, that way he'll improve. Stephens played well and we are more solid if he goes forward and leaves THB and Bednarek as the back line. Aribo, Smallbone and Downes are a good midfield three and might just compete with Newcastle. After the last few years Saints are in a financial mess. RM and his staff did great to get us promoted. I really respect the ethos, care and enthusiasm he has brought to the club in stark contrast to some previous managers. I hope we stick with him and the team and if we go down so be it. We'll be very competitive in the championship with Dibling, Sam Amo, Charles and Edwards. C'mon you Saints! |

Always been the same. In 1980 I was in Trafalgar Square celebrating the new decade peacefully and happily. A small band of NF thugs making Nazi salutes tried to stop the celebrations. They weren't representative of the UK then and the EDF/ Reform gang aren't representative of the UK now. It's simply amplified by social media and the endless news reports. I support the police, decency and tolerance like the vast majority of the UK. A bit of rain will sort it out and the start of the for all season. |

Forget a new winger. Rather than give him away for £10 million, accept KWP will go for free next year and play him in front of Sugawara as a right winger. Try and offload Kamaldeen and Mara. Worse a shot, KWP always gives his best and could be great with Sugawara behind him. |

Agree. For the vast bulk of my lifetime I've supported "struggling Southampton" in the old first division and the Premier League. As a result I've celebrated fewer wins than those supporters of the so called yo to clubs. I understand why owners, players, managers and staff are desperate to be in the premier league but I far more enjoy us being competitive and winning games in the championship than the misery of being cannnon fodder in the prem. |
| Forum Thread | Squad for Oxford and Millwall at 16:39 30 Jul 2024
According to the echo RM has said the 22 for Oxford will likely be the basis of the squad going forward into the season, prompting the inevitable second guessing. In that spirit... 3-5-3 McCarthy, THB, Bednarek, Ron, Sugawara, Smallbone, Aribo, Downes, Taylor, BBD, Arma 4-3-3 Lumley, Bree, Stephens, Wood, Manning, Charles, Lallana, Alcaraz, Sam Amo, Dibling, Edozie Leaving/ injured Bazunu, KWP, ABK, Mara, Kamaldeen, Larios, Stewart. Whilst nobody really knows what is going on, there is a danger in over reliance on the hope that he might get fit to avoid buying a first choice striker. Che got us out of trouble last year by sticking around but we really need to sign a good one this summer and there aren't many around in our price range that will cut it in the Prem. |

It's going to be stick or twist with a few of the young players bought for or during the relegation season. We spent significant money on their potential with Livramento and Lavia being sold on at a profit. Mara, Edozie, Kamaldeen and Alcaraz should all be a key part of next season but in truth their progression has been mixed. |
| Forum Reply | Saints linked with palace winger at 10:09 19 Jul 2024
Not sure about this one unless it's a purchase for the future. We paid 22 million for Kamaldeen, significant money for Edozie and Sam Amo did really well initially. If we get Ryan Frazer back and with Armstrong playing as a wide attacker surely that is the wide positions covered, especially as we might well be playing 3-5-2 next year. Another striker to alternate with Stewart and ideally a first choice GK (although I think it will end up with McCarthy as first choice) |

Great news. It would have been very disappointing if RM's much publicised first pick hadn't got over the line. KWP and Bednarek are into the final year with no new contracts signed so very sensible that we have Sugawara and Wood/ Edwards already in the building. I expect Kyle and Jan to be sold in this window. We were short at LB last year hence Taylor. I'm expecting Larios to go on loan. Lallana in for Armstrong so if Frazer comes back I'm expecting a replacement for Adams, a loan GK ( for Bazunu) and another experienced wide player. |

For me, one if the downsides of promotion and the inevitable relegation battle(s) is the fact that none of our promising youngsters will be allowed to develop in a Saints shirt. I very much doubt we will see Sam Amo, Lawrence, Dibling, Ballard, Meghoma this season and Larios seems likely to leave on loan. Whilst I know experience is needed to keep us up, an aging Lallana doesn't generate much excitement. |

| Forum Reply | One year yesterday Russell Martin joined Southampton. at 13:32 22 Jun 2024
Completely agree. I think Sport Republic, Jason Wilcox ans Russell Martin did a remarkable job last year. We were a disorganised rabble and far worse than the other relegated teams. The clear out and money from transfers was really good. The incoming players all made a contribution and RM created a strong collective identity in terms of behaviour and playing style. It will be really, really hard next year and I am fully expecting a relegation battle and some real drubbings but we need to keep faith with RM as your alternative means we are back to square one. |

Neither. Time to move on. Stewart, Adam Armstrong plus a new striker. |
| Forum Reply | Is Adam Lallana The True Definition Of JUDAS ? at 18:28 14 Jun 2024
Don't care about the past. Just not sure he is the best option for Saints now. Does this mean that we have Lallanna as our number 10 Stu Armstrong replacement? |
