| News Comment | Southampton V Everton The Preview at 20:26:56
Saints are going down. We can either go down with RM and maintain some sense of stability or create chaos by sacking him, still going down and having to start all over again. Saints, Ipswich and Leicester are the three worst teams (Wolves). Going down isn't the end of the world as was proved last year. The EPL is the holy grail for owners, managers and players but for supporters, I would suggest winning more games, playing attractive football and having a positive atmosphere playing local youngsters is more important. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Arsenal The Verdict at 21:57:27
An average start to the season would have seen us with 5/6 points ( win against Ipswich and 2/3 draws against Forest, Bournmouth and Brentford) the next four should yield 7 points if we are in the mix at the bottom half of the table. RM needs 3 wins to make up the lost ground. 10points after 11 games would be ok. Big ask! |
| News Comment | Six Could Potentially Leave Southampton On Deadline Day at 09:25:10
Apparently the Dutch and Turkish leagues are still open so with our window closed there could still be an exit route for Onuachu, ABK and Kamaldeen. It's a shame Edozie didn't get his loan and Manning didn't get a move back to the EFL as he won't get much game time at Saints. Could be a good window for Goztepe. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Cardiff The Carabao Cup Verdict at 14:06:01
I think ABK despite his obvious talents burnt his boats last year when he made it clear he wanted to leave and had no intention of playing with Saints in the championship. I think RM places great store on team spirit, character etc and I think it would send a very bad message to the squad if ABK played against Brentford. Yesterday was simply a shop window display to show he is fit having failed the medical. I wonder whether Ralph might take him at Wolfsburg as they appear to have lost their CB to Palace. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Nottingham Forest the Preview at 10:29:24
Amazed if it's not the same starting line up as last week with a couple of changes on the bench. Whilst we've strengthened the squad RM seems committed to giving this players that got us promotion and are still here the opportunity to show they are good enough for the Premier League. |
| News Comment | Sekou Mara Departs at 12:29:22
Good luck Sekou. Strasburg is a lovely city with a beautiful cathedral and significantly better climate. I'm sure Liam Rosenior can't believe his luck, massive improvement from Hull in terms of quality of life. |
| News Comment | Southampton Sign Portuguese Midfielder at 22:07:30
With the exception of a GK on loan, that must be the last of the additions. Now it's presumably an exodus to pay for them - KWP, ABK (medical allowing), Charles, Alcaraz, Kamaldeen, Onuachu and Mara at a guess. I really hope that Fernandes is better than Alcaraz but I'm not holding my breath. |
| News Comment | Vacancy- Ball Playing Goalkeeper Wanted Apply St Mary's Stadium at 18:29:12
I'm guessing that McCarthy got a new contract because he had been with us for the year, was a good character in training and had improved his distribution in accordance with RM's preferred style. He also did well having stepped in for the play-offs. However, I suspect the real reason will be the lack of alternatives who are content to keep the seat warm for Bazunu and will be financially viable and an upgrade. Sam Johnstone might be an option but has many of the same issues as McCarthy. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Lazio The Verdict at 16:01:13
I can't believe that RM be pragmatic and avoid some of the crazier short passing around in the penalty area with McCarthy. A battering by Newcastle is all too possible and would be a disaster for confidence. If we give up the same chances to Newcastle as we did last night we'll get punished. Hopefully, for all the bluster about playing our game etc etc RM will be sensible and have a back five of Yuki, THB, Stephens, Bednarek and Taylor with Small one, Downes and Aribo in midfield and Arma and BBD upfront. Alcaraz, Dibling and Sam Amo deserve to make the bench. It won't be pretty but we might get a point. Welcome back to the Prem. |
| News Comment | Where Is Kyle Walker-Peters ? at 19:34:03
Sure I read that there was an agreement that he would train but wouldn't play matches given the uncertainty. Saints want to sell him, KWP doesn't want to sign a new contract and is probably quite happy to stay and go on a free next year like Adams. Saints don't want to give him away for very little but I suspect when push comes to shove at the end of the transfer window he will go for £10-15 million. Personally if Saints could manage it I'd keep him as an attacking wide player. We will be defending and doubling up a lot this year and KWP is great going forward with an end product. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Millwall The Preview at 11:51:41
How poor must Lumley be in training if he doesn't even get a chance after Lis and McCarthy's displays. Hopefully the endless short passes in penalty area are just about giving McCarthy practice and won't happen at Newcastle! |
| News Comment | Sheffield United Interested In Saints Defender at 16:20:41
He has developed well under RM so is a better player than the one Saints bought under Nathan Jones. If he goes hopefully it means KWP is staying but I think Saints are banking on the £18 million for KWP. |
| News Comment | Breaking News = Ben Brereton Diaz Signing Confirmed For Southampton at 16:14:48
Agreed. Good call for Saints. Like Downes he has had a challenging season out of the championship after doing well so knows he has to step up again. Can see a first choice 3-5-2 starting to emerge with BBD and Arma up top, with Downes, Aribo and Smallbone in midfield. |
| News Comment | Newcastle Playing Hardball With Southampton Over Ryan Fraser at 08:14:43
Very much doubt it's anything personal between Howe and Frazer. Key phrase from RM is that Frazer is on a very good contract and I've suspect he is wanting somebody to make up the difference in salary if he goes before the end of his contract. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Montpellier The Verdict at 09:22:57
Still very early in pre season but so far positives are Sugarawa, THB, Edwards, Taylor, Downes, Smallbone, Aribo, Dibling, Armstrong and Sam Amo. Poor from Mara, Alcaraz, Kamaldeen, Lis and McCarthy. More to prove from Edozie, Charles, Manning and Wood. Bednarek, Lallana, Stephens, Stewart still to really show up. KWP massive miss going forward if he leaves I feel. |
| News Comment | Saints Fans Can Watch Bordeaux Friendly For Free Online at 12:04:08
Just watched the stream. Very much an early warm up. Thoughts were that Dibling and Sam Amo stood out. Wood very right footed. Kamaldeen still very quick. Lis not a first choice keeper. Alcaraz ran around a lot, Mara didn't. Edozie looked dangerous. |
